Redcafe Snooker

The phrase 'naughty snooker' really annoys me for some reason.

In the second session of Hawkins v O'Sullivan, Ronnie ended the second session with a pot success of 98% and is still trailing by two frames. Insane level being played by both.

Allen on the comeback vs Wilson - hope he gets smashed, don't like him. He seems so bitter. Steve Davis made a comment a little while back about him being a 'Championship' level snooker player who isn't in the top tier and he's still bitter about it, even though it was spot on.

How Alex Higgins rode the Hurricane to produce one of snooker's greatest breaks
Alex Higgins won the World Championship twice – a week-long final in 1972 and his victory over Ray Reardon in 1982 – but his greatest frame came against his friend, Jimmy White, when the Hurricane blew the Whirlwind away

I'll that a read later but I'm guessing their talking about this frame

Pure natural talent.

Quarter finals conclude today:

1.00pm
Judd Trump (Eng) 6-10 Ding Junhui (Chn)
Mark Allen (NI) 5-11 Kyren Wilson (Eng)

7.00pm
Ricky Walden (Eng) 6-10 John Higgins (Sco)
Ronnie O'Sullivan (Eng) 7-9 Barry Hawkins (Eng)

To be honest the only one I can see going close is the last one and I'm glad it's in the evening so I can watch it! Other than that, Ding & Higgins should coast home, the only other question being how nervous Wilson is. He's a great young player who's had an excellent season, would be nice to see him reach the quarters.

Why did I have Ronnie in an accumulator, crap odds, every leg won and just waiting on this match, ffs. Still in it though...

Brilliant from Hawkins in a decider too, deserves it. Decent chance of winning.

Meh, can't stand Barry Hawkins but he played ever so well over the course of the match. Gutting for Ronnie to fight back so well and to lose how he did but that's snooker.

Either Mark Selby or Ding Junhi for the title now I reckon.

I'd have Higgins in with a chance. Kyren Wilson as a potential surprise finalist.

Looking at the draw:

Alan McManus vs John Higgins
Ding Junhui
vs Mark Williams
Marco Fu vs Barry Hawkins
Kyren Wilson vs Mark Selby

That would seem like the logical likely progression, although I can see a surprise upset in the Selby match.

I'd say the match odds and outright winner of the tournament were changing left right and centre in that match. The standard was unbelievable, wide open now but I would say John Higgins could win it. Showed one hell of a lot of bottle Hawkins but gut wrenching for O'Sullivan all the same.

Another day, another bore off Ronnie look at me story:
World Snooker Championship: Ronnie O'Sullivan 'wasn't in fit state'

Snooker is hardly a blockbuster sport, it's well down the list of popular past times in this country and around the world. And he plays a lot fewer tournaments these days so really the spotlight is properly on him for 2 weeks of the year. Diddums.
