Redcafe Drafting League Game Thread

Arrows, eh?

Main function in drafts: make it look like your man covers more ground - effectively - than he actually would, thus making your XI seem more...spread out.

Seriously, though - it's about the movement of the man himself, not the ball. So, in Pirlo's case above, I'd read that as him being instructed to push up frequently - into some kind of AM territory.
Yeah that's not what he was supposed to do

Isotope vs. BKTWR

Isotope
Qy6B0cS.jpg

Here's my quicky tactic against BKTWR:

General tactic is midfield domination and pressing with two forwards occupying opponents defense.

With Davids, Ballack, and Simeone in midfield, the gegenpress will cut off supply to the opponent front line. While Makelele is busy marking Ballack at the center, Zizinho has the freedom to run havoc as the creative player to supply attack from center right or the wing, or as goalscorer. (Note: Pelé admired Zizinho as the best player he ever saw. 'He was a complete player. He played in midfield, in attack, he scored goals, he could mark, head and cross.' https://www.theguardian.com/news/2002/feb/12/guardianobituaries.alexbellos)

On attack, Ballon d'Or winners Gerd Muller and Kempes will tie down opponents centerbacks and fullbacks, preventing their fullbacks to venture further forward. With Muller occupying both centerbacks (they have to), Kempes is able to drifting in and out to the left or as second striker, attacking the created space.

GOAT centerbacks and fullbacks are guarding one of the best Goalkeeper in Sepp Maier.

BKTWR

FORMATION : 4141

TACTICS : Solid defence, extra man covering. Good ball retention/possession (all players comfortable with ball at feet). Quick transitions ... on the floor through the midfield or Koeman/goalie (now fit again after wagging the Super Cup) through the air to the wings.

DEFENCE : Solid back four who stay/play as a unit. Good CH pairing who complement each other (unlike say.... Moore and Schnellinger who sound far too similar?)

HOLDING : I wanted someone who could play "the Makelele role" and Claude should manage it .... disciplined, covers the space between midfield and defence (if only he'd been fit v Charlton??)

CENTRAL MIDFIELD : Two great midfielders, comfortable on the ball, neat passers, great engines. German discipline plus Brazilian flair.

WIDTH : a Brazilian genius (though I seem to be the only one who thinks so) and AK47. Multiple abilities, FBs can't dive in as both have trickery and pace, so can skin them down the line/cross or cut inside/go themselves. Will also hold oppo FBs back.... or else.

FORWARD : System needs a CF with all-round abilities of pace, strength, finishing...... a one-man pain in the area. Drogba.

Prematch: Both teams are quite evenly balanced with a match up or two in their favor. Running a gegenpress with the backline Isotope has, will work to the advantage of BKTWR. With Koeman pinging from the back and Rivaldo, Kroos and Sócrates, the gegenpress will not work as well as intended. On the flip side Muller could have worse match ups.

First Half: The Doctor is well poised to run this match. Makélélé is one of the best players to shut down Ballack while I couldn't ask for a better player to laugh off a gegenpress than Sócrates. I can't see Ballack getting going at all in the first half and the front three will therefore be more isolated with Davids and Simeone busy trying to contain the midfield. Socrates will see opportunities for brilliant back heel passes feeding Rivaldo to score a rocket (1-0 BKTWR). I can see Kempes getting off a shot or two but limited by Lucio. Koeman is not the best vs. Muller but his passing out the back can offer a viable counter threat and require Muller to be more aware on defense than usual.

Second Half: Still can't see team Isotope getting going here. Muller and Zizinho combine for a goal Zizinho setting up Muller in 70th minute (1-1) but after that I can see BKTWR taking control of the match. Sócrates will tire around the 80th minute but his sharp passing doesn't require an engine and this is where Drogba makes the difference. In a tight meaningful match Drogba can make the difference at the end. Will he here?

@green_smiley @P-Nut

How are you going to deal with MJJ's absence?

Possibly the easiest thing to do might be to remove all the results vs MJJ then go to a 14 team league. You could then omit the bye each round. Would everyone have played the same number of games if we had done that?

The fixtures wouldn't work out. Only way that would work is if we got to halfway and then did it.

Maybe someone like @Invictus can step in? Or any neutral who'd be interested.

We're thinking of going with just 1 round of fixtures instead of home and away. And then rebooting with managers that want to play a full season, knowing what it entails better.

How do you all feel about it?

Cant see anyone dropping out as this is a mode without the worst part of drafts - games.

How long will @MJJ be out for? I think for a format like this that is supposed to span an entire season there should be some kind of protocol in place if a manager is temporarily unavailable since that will just happen at times. Would try to find some kind of solution without players dropping out here.

Indefinitely.

Oh crap, I hadn't followed most of the road trip match threads. Somehow confused this with the Skizzo situation who mentioned he wouldn't be here for like 10 days. That changes things of course :(

I’m in and out, I just don’t have computer access until I’m home, which so far has been a few weeks and not again until mid-late september.

The graphics are a nightmare to try and do on my phone.

Indeed, it's a feckin pain in the arse on phones and tablets.

Sharemytactics is useless. Even without arrows it's shaky, and with 'em...forget it.

Haven't bothered to check out possible alternatives lately, though. Perhaps there's something out there more tailored to portable platforms. Some sites do offer apps, it seems, but feck knows if they're any good (or free - I'm not that keen on paying anything for the privilege of making formation pics on my phone, to be honest).
