FORMATION : 4141 (Spain 08, late Bayern/Pep, Germany in the 10's)

TACTICS : Solid defensively with extra man covering. Good ball retention/possession. Quick transitions. Lots of angled/triangle passes.

DEFENCE : Solid back four. Rock hard CH pairing with strength, positional knowledge and pace. Two FBs who have proven themselves at top club and country level.

HOLDING : Albertini (the Busquets/Schweini role). Disciplined player, cover all across the front of defence (especially vs attacking mids/10s), win the ball and give it to centre mids.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD : Neeskens & Kroos (in a role he played for Bayern and Germany). Two all-round midfielders, comfortable on the ball, neat passers and hold possession until time to quickly switch to attack with one pass to wide players or Bergkamp. Both capable of driving forward too and scoring from distance.

WIDTH : the bandy-legged Brazilian genius and Andrei the Red. Multiple abilities, FBs can't dive in as both have trickery and pace to burn, so can skin them down the line/cross or cut inside/go themselves.

FORWARD : Needs to have all-round abilities of pace, strength, finishing. That's Drogba.

PENALTIES : Neal (well anyone but Neeskens tbh.)

Vs

Goalkeeper

Victor Valdes is a perfect replacement for Campos in our system

Back 3

Alaba and Ramos flank Franco Baresi, they are to be used in the same way Sergi and Ferrer would operate for Early 90' Barcelona, both of whom are well versed at playing full back roles and centre back roles for their Clubs. They will go forward where ever it possible and create overloads. Baresi stands out on his own as a perfect fit for this system in terms of both ability, and tactical fit.

Diamond 4

Busquets anchors the diamond, filling into the centre back role as he has done countless times for Barcelona when Pep Guardiola employed a similar system in the early 2010's. He will be able to operate and break the play through the lines to Seedorf and Giles, both of whom possess enough quality and enough of an engine to get through the running needed in this role. Ceulemans can play a similar type of role Sivori is asked too, but has the added bonus of being able to drive into the box and use his height effectively.

Front 3

Lennox will hold the width on the right and cause problems, he was over a goal every other game in his pomp with Celtic and was comfortably two footed. Marc Overmars is on the left, his rocket pace and delivery will be perfect for Bican and Ceulemans driving from deep to get on the end of crosses.

We will aim to play an attacking game, on the front foot with a focus on creating mismatches in numbers all over the pitch and then using simple passing to create our opportunities. We have the runners to do so whom also possess the extreme quality needed in order too use the ball when we inevitably win it back owing to our pressing. A high line will also be used and can be used with relative safety owing to the aggressive mentality and quickness of our sweeper keeper.

BKTWR vs Stobzilla

45' Sorry about the break in services. The first half was a drab and I fell asleep. Still 0-0

HT - From the highlights, looks like both teams' midfield strengths more or less cancelled each other out. Neal and Tarantini have done a great job on Overmars and Lennox, the key strengths of the opposition formation. On the other hand, Baresi has kept Drogba pretty silent. Rivaldo has had his moments against Ramos but Seedorf is well placed to help out.

60' Rivaldo gives Ramos a deja vu moment. Skips past him like Ronaldinho used to. Ramos the cnut slightly holds him from the back and Rivaldo the actor goes down way too easily . The referee is not sure on which cheat to trust so he calls in for VAR

61' VAR evidence seems inconclusive. Somehow both the attacker and defender seem to be playing dirty at the same time.

62' The referee thinks for a while and weighs his options. If he doesn't give a penalty, BKTWR will whine again about Rivaldo being ignored even though he doesn't have Gerets and Nasazzi ahead of him in this game. If he gives a penalty, Stobzilla will....most likely not give a feck as he is busy with work. The referee decides to give a penalty.

63' Neeskens wants to take it but the manager seems to be screaming for Phil Neal to take it. Like Kepa against Sarri, Neeskens asks the manager to shut up and watch the 1974 WC final where he took the penalty even with Cruyff on the pitch.

64' Neeskens scores. Its 1-0.

71' Team Stobzilla pushes on in search for an equalizer. Cuelemans dribbles past Busquets and puts Overmars through. He beat Phil Neal for pace and slots one into the top corner. Its 1-1

80' Both teams are still doing well on the ball and there is a lot of movement in midfield. Its an excellent game to watch if you are not looking for goals.

90' Its full time. Two similar teams cancel each other out and would probably have done well against slightly weaker midfields. Both teams will take the point but feel they could have won it at some point. 1-1 the final score

I'll do fixtures and injuries at work tonight.

Would be nice if there was some metric to have a ballon dor type top 20 players list at the end of the season.

Maybe have top 3 players for each game and add up the points at the end of the season.

To give it a real world suspense feel, maybe only the committee can have the list internally and announce at the end of the season.

Nice to see that all it took for Rivaldo (a beautiful player) to create one chance was to be up against a 3-man defence that is looking to attack "wherever possible". Hopefully in future matches, the opposition only plays two at the back (or preferably one) .... he might even create TWO chances?!!!

Also interesting that Stobzillas team scored when "Cuelemans dribbles past Busquets and puts Overmars through" .... being as they're on the same side, presumably Cuelemans was facing his own goal and Overmars actually scored an OG?

Since all committee members oversee and envision a lot of games anyway, I think that they can nominate and vote for whoever they think played best over the course of the season. Then they compare notes and decide the winner.

Please, stick to one spelling in the future, @cubemine. I've just spotted that Castro and M. del Castro in the goalscorers list are actually the same person.

It's probably whoever has done the write up to be fair

I don't know about others, but I don't write up every single chance I see happening in a game. The write ups would be huge.

3 midfielders injured! And Demyanenko is injured 3rd week in a row

Could someone please do me a sharemytactics formation sheet for me please? I am away from a desktop and laptop and only have my phone

Will submit at some point tonight. Smack bang in the middle of 7, 12 hour night shifts on the spin so will have to do it at work and not when I am about to go to sleep

Ooh lovely, I definitely don't miss the 12 hour night shift run. Did that for years

BKTWR-Away-team-formation-tactics.png

Advantage for Physiocrat
  1. Presence of Finney on the right should limit attacking game of Camacho and Lucio
  2. Too many similarity between Koeman and Albertini, so not really a complimentary midfield combo as compared to opposition
  3. Riva provides a more direct presence to keep his marker occupied and feed onto crosses from Finney or Barnes
Advantage for BKTWR
  1. The fluidity setup for Figo is likely to be neutralized by Neeskens
  2. Don't see Cocu getting the joy to play his offensive game, with Rep lurking on the same side. Forster would likely have to chip in more often than not if so
  3. More defensive responsibility for Stielike, having to track Bergkamp and also cover for Olsen when venturing forward. Compared to Koeman, who should have more space to stamp his mark in his play
Predicted outcome:

Physiocrat (1) vs. BKTWR (2)

Goals scored
  • Riva (assist from Barnes)
  • Bergkamp (assist from Rep)
  • Koeman (thundershot)
MOTM: Koeman
