RedCafe Cricket Draft

What is a cricket voice over artist? I should find a good cricket forum actually...I love talking about it and I miss the pointless conversations since i've been living out of India the last couple of years.

A voice over artist who works on cricket shows.

India's the best place to have pointless conversations, that is true.

That would be a job!

How old are you to remember McDermott enough for him to be a favorite by the way? I had the impression you were in your teens or early 20s. I'm 35 and I think of him as an honest spirited trier. I don't want to name names because people are still selecting but others captured the imagination more while he worked away.

Looking back at his stats he was a better bowler than I remember him to be. 291 wickets at 28.6...about Gillespie's level then? Pity I suppose that he didn't have a McGrath or Warne to lead the line and was expected to be the spearhead himself. As you say you've got Donald so he should be a fine support bowler.

I was hoping McDermott might drop, I was considering him for the last pick. But all in Gillespie was the best left for me, consistent across the board around the world, if you ignore that his woeful Ashes series in 2005, he's under 30 in every continent, and under 25 total nearly.

I suppose its been 6 hours. Crappy's taking Gary Kirsten. I hated watching him bat so he's not getting a picture.

Was gonna pick up but decided to fill up the WK slot first. Hayden, Sehwag, Hussey, and Dhoni. What a batting line up!

Dhoni is really not as impressive in tests as he is ODIs. Struggles against the swinging ball. Still a great pick.

Yeah just 37 in tests and pathetically 19 in Australia? But for me, he's worth more than his average to the team which is why i wanted him.

DE's team is going to have the weakest bowling attack in the draft though. There'll have been about 75 picks before he gets his bowling pick which means none of the top 25 bowlers. Thats quite a sacrifice to get Dhoni. I'd understand if it was Sangakarra, Flower etc. but Dhoni?

That was my reasoning. Once Flower was picked I figured I'd put Wk on hold for now to get another class batsman and more importantly, another class strike bowler.

Yeap and in his batting itself, someone like Sehwag won't stand the test against the great bowlers in others' teams. Hayden and Hussey are very good picks though

An average of over 50, a high score of 319, 22 centuries, 32 half centuries all at a strike rate of 81 would suggest a top top test player which is what Sehwag is. Plus he can bowl a bit as well ;). Hayden and himself have the potential to smash any bowler out of the ground

Dhoni might not be in the same class as Boucher or Gilchrist but he is definitely much better than any option still available and picking your wk late might have a huge impact on your team.

Sehwag's fine. His weakness is when he's up against the ball that moves in the air. Averaging below 30 in New Zealand, England and South Africa is evidence. However, unlike a few others who have the same weakness, he makes up for it ferociously on flatter pitches. He's not really afraid of bounce either. Add that to his shock value and he's very deservedly an early second round pick.

If Sehwag comes up against the attack of Ambrose, Pollock and Akhtar at their prime, I won't bet on him to get past 10.

I pick Justin Langer.

Class pick...his improvement in one day batting hasn't quite translated into tests yet and he's running out of time especially with all the injury issues he's had but he had potential to do more than he's achieved.

I had him penciled in next if nobody took him, though I did think that was unlikely.

He's played only 30 tests though and is already 31. I ignored him based on that alone.

You are a twat IL. Watson was mine.

True. 30 tests is less for me. Definitely players who have played more have an advantage over the ones who have played less.

Agreed to an extent. But 30 is not too less. Most people play 40-60 test matches. Its enough a sample. Not to mention quality matters. I'd rather have a Watson with 30 matches than a n other with 60 but less quality. He'll go onto play 45-50. Not to mention, you have to make a bit side room for injuries and what he could've been

R-I: I agree with the fact that he hasn't translated his true talent. According to me, if he did, he'd be up there with the best. I think its to do with his temperament which seems a bit easy going. Despite that, he is probably one of the best all rounders I've witnessed recently.
