(Realistic) January Signings Thread

We find ourselves in a desperate situation here tbh.. which decent player is going to want to play for us when the managerial situation is in such flux and the club seems to be in crisis.

Add that to the fact any player we want is probably from a club like Stoke, Everton who are actually doing well and the young players there might not want to gamble on moving to us midway through a season where they're actually enjoying and excelling at their football.

Likes of Mahrez, Vardy.. no chance of getting them - I wouldn't want Vardy anyway, just doesn't suit our style of football in the long term but I do rate him as a player.

Best thing we can do here is focus on building squad depth for the future. Inject some pace and youth into the side. Get lads in who can do a job over the next 6 months but can offer something as squad players in the future i.e. a Daley Blind type of player. We are not going to be signing any bona fide First XI players of the future in January unless we're very fortunate.

Realistic Options

  • Ayoze Perez - provide cover for wings and up front, good attitude as well.
  • Berahino - bad attitude but very talented lad, explosive, silky.. reminds me of Saha.
  • Stones - Everton's defensive record has been awful, can they be convinced to sell him and reinvest it in some experienced defenders to help them rise in the table?
  • Laporte - Bilbao are 7th in La Liga, it is a nothing side where he will never really reach his potential.. can we nick him now with a big offer and solidify our backline.
  • Lucas Moura - Apparently he wants a move away from PSG and they are in two minds in relation to keeping him. After the ADM deal, I think we have a decent relationship with them and would be able to seal the deal.
  • Isco - unwanted, underused at Madrid. Euro 2016 coming up.. he'd come in and star for us. He is in the David Silva class of number 10 for me.. and wouldn't fall into the Juan Mata trap of being one dimensional/slow as feck. His dribbling ability is unreal and I think he'd be able to beat players for fun and make an impact here. He could be our Coutinho.

I'd also like us to sign another box to box midfielder, someone quite mobile to take over Schweinsteigers role for the next 6 months. Like a Pjanic but midfielders are hard to come by.

Mahrez, Teixeira or Felipe Anderson maybe? If not bring back Januzaj. Lord knows we could have used him, especially in the last month.

I like it... All attainable targets that would give us a real boost.

Only Perez and Berahino are realistic Janaury signings from that list. Stones? We've got more chance of signing Mahrez. Don't know Laporte's situation but I know how difficult Bilbao are. Lucas could be a shout but I don't see PSG selling him mid season with CL ambitions. Isco also will not be leaving until at least the summer, he's also far superior to Coutinho.

We need Lukaku - even if we are not gonna get him now at least

Manchester United are preparing to offer £45m for Lazio's Brazilian attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson. (Source: La Repubblica)

Just seen on twitter
Sterling? Euros would make some sense, but I doubt we'll pay £45m for Anderson. I would rather pay that amount for Mané.

Lukaku is absolutely the one we should be after. Can play direct, counter attack, possession football - any way you want to set up.

Stones is super tough but Mahrez is nigh on impossible right now unless your a top european club. No way he'd want to leave when their club is at the cusp of making history.

He knows he can move in the summer so it is not imperative he leaves now.

Stones is at a club which might not be going anywhere fast and Martinez might see the chance to improve their defensive record by using the money to acquire some experience. It is a very small chance though.

Isco has only completed 8 games all season. He's been subbed on or off an alarming number of times and surely a player of his class, doesn't want to be seen as a bit part player. He doesn't seem like a Benitez player to me.

Maybe for the right price they will?
We should be able to bid for him or Felipe Anderson

May be for right price, but since they are still in CL i doubt they would sell him now.

I agree that Isco is the one we should be after. And a goal scorer if there are any decent ones available.

Similar with Mahrez though Stones can move in the summer if he wants to so he won't force it not to mention Everton, even if they do consider selling him, can hold an auction in the summer so they'll not budge next month.

I wouldn't factor in Benitez's relationship with any of the Madrid players, no one expects that tenure to go on beyond the summer if by some miracle he gets that far. From Isco's point of view, a young Spanish incredibly gifted player in a side who will probably be shuffling their attack in the near future, I'd imagine he'll want to stay. No harm in trying but again would probably have to be the summer.

Isco as our #10 or 3rd midfielder would take us to a new level, lovely player. I would also like us to go for Stones and Lukaku but I can't see Everton selling.

If not Isco then Pjanic.
Tielemans too.

Actually getting the midfield sorted, finally. That would be nice.

What's happened to Lacazette? Things seem to of gone very quiet in regards to anyone being linked with this guy, and I haven't watched much Ligue 1 this year.

Frankly I doubt we will buy anyone at the moment. More like LVG have to pickup whatever players he has now.

Nobody worth their salt is going to consider coming here right now, are they? Maybe if we raid the likes of Stoke for Bojan, but the mood and positivity at Stoke far eclipses that around us right now. Same with Leicester, Spurs and maybe Southampton.

@bucky

Thanks for the info share man. Much appreciated.

No problem.

Been mostly underwhelming. Lyon had or have to deal with a lot of injuries though. Maybe some of it is down to that, the team as a whole has struggled. As an option to bolster our squad options I'd love to have him, but he is probably not the player from Lyon we should be looking to sign. When Fekir comes back from his injury and is still the same player, it should be him.

Realistic Options

If Lucas really is a realistic option (no idea) then he's the one I hope we go all out for. I do think that one quality, direct winger could transform our fortunes.

Lukaku, Isco, moura, stones

Obviously Everton won't sell 2 players but money talks so 1 is doable

We need a strong, pacey front man but also a solid centre back

my kinda list GB. You shud be installed as DoF immediately. get on with it!

I think the only players we have any hope of signing are the stars of midtable clubs who aren't going anywhere. Mane I can see as a viable option but would be eye watteringly expensive in January. Looking towards clubs who are struggling at the bottom or to clubs pushing up towards the too end of the table the likes of spurs, Watford, Leicester will not sell as there is no need and the silupporters would be outraged.

We may have to look abroad to the likes of Lazio who are marooned in mid table of the serie a and would welcome a cash boost, they are well stocked for wingers so Felipe Anderson or even candreva might be worth a punt.

Lukaku is looking more and more like a good buy.

Last few years iv been on the fence as his first touch and consistency of finishing hasn't been there yet, but he's still only 22 and looks to be getting better every week.

If it was me id be trying a cheeky deal in January or the summer for Stone and Lukaku with Rooney going the other way.

Just pay his buy out clause? Its simple na? same with Isco?

We should be doing everything we can to get Lukaku. I'm not sure who is realistic but we definitely need a pacey winger as well.

We're alright for now in defense and midfield I think, or we aren't in as dire need for those positions as we are up front anyway. We'll definitely need to address those areas in the summer again though. Carrick is past it, Fellaini needs to go, Schweinsteiger will stay but shouldn't be relied on and we need a partner for Mike at center back.

Lucas, Mane, Mahrez, Lukaku and Stones. All of them. If one of Lucas, mane or Mahrez won't join go for F. Anderson.

realistically our best bet is to poach top talent with a buyout clause.......

or top talent at midtable clubs

there's a bunch of Mahrez out there - the problem we have - and a fact which absolutely made me amazed and disgusted is that Manchester United....with all our financial muscle and resources......quite unbelievably don't have full time scouts

I find that hard to believe and why we have put all our eggs in the Mendes basket is beyond me

The thought of getting Lukaku makes me laugh purely for the fact.. imagine how powerful and pacey a front line with Martial and Lukaku would be. Under someone like Mourinho that would be his ideal type of attack.. what other hench mofos could we add.

Barkley as a 10 and Arnautovic at right wing. All that is missing is Akinfenwe as a sub.

Barkley
Arnautovic Lukaku Martial
