(Realistic) January Signings Thread

Hope we don't do any panic buys. Better to fix the squad once LVG is gone

Yes, if he goes...

We're not going to get 4th without an injection of some kind. That's my pessimistic take on it. If that injection isn't a new manager, well – there you go.

Panic buys are never ideal, but I actually think the only thing which can give us the boost we need in order to salvage this season under LVG, is some new blood on the player side.

If we intend to keep LVG, we should buy an attacker – someone who can provide a similar boost to the one we got after Martial arrived. A goal threat. You could call it an emergency measure – but this is an emergency: We should do whatever we can to avoid losing out on 4th. It's potentially very damaging, not least since it could influence who we end up with as our next manager if (or when) LVG eventually gets sacked for...losing out on 4th.

This.

At this stage, I wouldn't be against a couple of panic buys. Short term we need something extra and the squad is so small that we could probably support players like that long time.

So, of all windows, we are going through THIS entire January transfer window without either changing the manager or the players?

Smart, considering it's all clicking together for us, and we are just off the back of our best run of games in 138 years, are devastating at home, have a settled starting XI, have adequate quality and cover at each position, five-six world-class players, looking good for loads of silverware, there is nothing in the market than can improve us that our competitors can get instead and we don't have much of a budget, either.

Good job, Woody and LVG. You've got this stuff figured out, haven't you?

If the only sort of players available in January are ones like Townsend, Adebayor, Caulker, or Pato, then it's probably best we kept out of it.

Last thing we need is the wrong players, LvG should just have has more foresight and hung onto a few more squad players in the summer.

To be honest I thought that we were going to sign an attacking midfielder. I wanted someone like Sane, even though we were linked with Felipe Anderson and Mane.

At the end, the only player we added was Januzaj. I hope Memphis, Schneiderlin, Mata, etc, can recover their form and help us to finish in the top 4.

I thought we would try Pereira or play Herrera more often but in this case we absolutely need someone on that position too and I don't know what we're waiting for, knowing our luck with injuries. One more unlucky streak like that this season and we can kiss CL goodbye.

Can't wait for the transfer window to close so manager get on with respective jobs(coaching).. This season United reminds me of what we are used to seeing at Arsenal with the media and Arsene, the fact people wanted him to buy players just to spend money.
Fine the football is way less than desirable but adding another batch of newcomers to a team that already lacking cohesion cannot be healthy. Unless something unexpected falls on our lap, any new signing won't sole be for footballing reasons just a political one like Mata at the time.

If there's one thing we need more of it's Van Gaal's coaching.

Sturridge, Coutinho, Suarez, Evra, Vidic and many more... all signed in January but I can understand why we have to be careful how we spend.

I'm not too bothered about the lack of activity in the window, it was never realistic for us to bring in anyone of genuine quality.

I'm more concerned that the same underperforming players are being given chance after chance in the first team, whilst others who could make a difference, like Pereira and Memphis, seem to have been frozen out.

Why can't we add strength in depth with loan moves?

You really aren't taking too much of a risk adding players you can just discard in the summer.

What strength in depth can you possibly get that way? Maybe a few championship players. Wont academy players serve as better back ups?

Pato, although there are huge question marks over his fitness, it still would have been a decent option for us on a 6 month loan.

Regardless, I refuse to believe that there are no quality additions out there that we could get not in January.

I'm actually happy we are not signing anyone this January. It won't matter cos LvG's love children will always play regardless of who we bring in. It's a great time to trust in the youth who aren't much worse than the senior players.

Wouldn't have minded some club signings a la Shaw/Herrera, but don't disagree with not letting LvG spend more on players to fit his bankrupt philosophy.

I believe any signing will be expected to have an immediate impact on performance. I doubt the players you mentioned where that brilliant in their first 4 months.
That Liverpool team was already built around Gerrard and United had the likes of Heinze already in a settled team, even with all that they needed a settling in period. United right now dont have the luxury of time, hard enough to get this team gelled.
I would have loved to see us sign Pato, Sanches and that Drago guy but that'll be in prep for next season.
