RAWK Goes Into Meltdown 2015-16 Edition

Who are they talking about?

Only asking because I have Moreno as a cheap option in my FF team, and this suggests he's about to get dislodged by Paolo Maldini.
"Definitely the signing of the summer and possibly the century."
Signing of the century. Not even Maldini can top that.

No, i don't think he is. In the Expectations For 2015/16 Season thread most of them are expecting a title challenge. Look what happened after one of them posted this:

'The thing is I have to be honest and call it as I see it. This transfer window we were faced with a huge problem but we've addressed it far beyond mere mortal expectations. I look at the young defender Gomez and it thrills me beyond measure to think such a young thoroughbred sumptuous footballer is beginning his journey [and hopefully ending it too] to club and international stardom with us.

All in all two months on and it's a truly great time to be a Red.'

'Benteke and Ings will get 35+ goals between them.'

'we'll win the league and 1 of the cups me thinks'

And order is restored :D

I was worried that the events of the last year or two had finally destroyed the equilibrium of the boom-bust cycle going into this season. I underestimated them.

Compare us to champions and you`ll see we`re much closer than you`d think.

Costa is marginally better than Benteke and will only score marginally more.

Coutinho is clearly better than Oscar and is firmly on the path of becoming a superstar in this league.

Sturridge will at least match if not outscore their main player in Hazard.

Firmino is clearly better than Willian and will be a bigger threat against other teams in the league.

Midfield and defence are not so relevant in this comparison because we`ll be competing on who can score and win more against the rest of the league.

While they`ll be functional, clinical and all that organized jazz we`ll be blowing teams away by being more adventurous and bold. Simply they are not miles off us.

Tricky Reds are back in town lads and lasses. Deal with it.

Expectations - to win the league. If you go into a campaign thinking you aren't going to win it then you're fecked from the start. Same with the cups. Bollocks to the defeatist attitude, play to win, not to have a good try and get a pat on the fecking head for your efforts. First is first, second is nowhere.

Reality - hard to say at this stage, as it's before the fixtures have been sorted and the majority of transfer business has been done. I will say this though: if we're sitting on less than 20 points after the first 12-14 games then I reckon Brendan will be gone and sharpish. Anything happening beyond that would be mindless speculation.

Apologies if this has been mentioned and discussed before I know it's been mentioned a few times on Twitter but it's been a while since I've been on here, but the similarities between us next season and Chelsea between 04/06 in midfield and attack are really noticeable. In those seasons Chelsea played a counter attacking style of football, lost just 1 game in the league 04/05 and made it to the semi's of the champions league (to be knocked out by you know who). They only conceded something like 15 goals and kept 25 clean sheets. In 05/06 they played a more a more attacking style of football but still only lost 4 times and only dropped 2 points at home.
They played a 4-3-3 and relied on there attacking midfielders to get most of the goals. This was successful because they had a striker that could worry two centre backs at the same time which is crucial and helps create the extra man in midfield, also they had wide players that were adept at cutting inside drawing the fullbacks inside and had attacking full backs that could put crosses in for Drogba. All this sounding a little familiar.
The glaring differences between that side and our side for this year is obviously in the defending part. Makelele, Terry, Carvalho, Cech. I mean that's 1 hell of a defensive spine, which we won't have. But regarding Benteke suiting our style our play or vice versa, we can adapt to this attacking style, maybe not as entertaining as watching Suarez nutmeg everyone but it has been successful in our league and in Europe. We're just going to have to do it with a lesser quality of players. My prediction is we'll be solid and we'll make top 4. I think it'll take time for us to gel, and with the start we've got we're gonna be playing catch up. But I do think 1 of City, Arsenal or United will have a bad season and we'll be there to pounce.

Drogba/
Gudjohnsen

Duff/Cole. Robben.

Lampard

Essien/Tiago

Makelele

Bridge. Carvalho. Terry. Ferreira

Cech

Benteke/
Sturridge

Lallana/. Firmino
Ibe. Coutinho

Henderson. Milner

Moreno. Sahko. Skrtel. Clyne

Mignolet

There's an article on zonal marking that breaks down Chelsea's formation and tactics a hell of a lot better than I've done but can't find it anymore. Most of what I've put is from that.

The second one is gold, when you think about it. An admission that their expectations are not in line with reality.

Also, some nut job just noted on the similarity of Mourinho's first title winning side to their squad for next season.

mignoet ------ de Gea

Clyne --------- Damian

Skrtel -------- Jones

Sakho --------- Mike Smalling

Moreno -------- Shaw/Rojo

Can --------- Scneiderlin

Henderson ------- Schweinsteiger

Milner ------------ Herrera

Firmino ---------- Depay

Coutinho --------- Mata

Sturridge/Benteke ------- Rooney

Depth :
Flanagan, Toure, Lovren, Enrique, Lucas, Allen, Ibe, Markovic, Lallana, Ings, Origi
Rafael, Evans, McNair, Blackett, Carrick, Feilani, Wilson, young, Valencia, Hernandez?

I think we're a better all round side and have more depth and attacking options on the bench (has to be a first in comparison to United) but I think in terms of starting XI's they lack ability at the back particularly at centre half and we could probably do with more creativity from CM although Coutinho can also play there.

I think our side is more suited to a pressing game by a long shot and if that's the way Van Gaal wants to play theyll struggle to press effectively. In contrast Milner, henderson, Coutinho and Firmino are 4 players you can press effectively from the front.

Where United have an advantage on us is big game management. Van Gaal has proven both at international and for United he can win points unexpectedly against the top sides, Rogders has not.

It'll be an interesting race for 4th, who knows both clubs could go better and maybe City or Arsenal will drop out but I feel itll depend on if there are any more signings in key starting XI positions for either club and whether Rodgers can improve vs the top 6 sides.

Personally at the moment I'm leaning towards United as I feel they'll Bring in a top goalscorer, if they don't then we may well do it especially if sturridge can stay injury free.

The feck did I just read.

I don't know why they are so convinced they are going to be in the mix for the top four.

They have a very weak midfield and defence.

Literally the only place where we're not miles better is Coutinho vs Mata and Sturridge vs Rooney. And even there, if Mata and Rooney reach the levels they've reached in the past, they're miles ahead in terms of quality.

Do they expect Liverpool to fight for the title?
Have they ever not? Even when they are 20 points behind during Christmas they still think their team can go on a 20 game winning streak and win the league.

Is this Rogders the replacement they have ready for when Rodgers finally gets the pink slip?

I think Tim burton should take some of those posters as his scriptwriters. They are good with fantasies

Now now, Burton loves it weird, but even his insanities are sane in comparison to rawk.
They are like Vincent Malloy, only way more dramatic and paranoid.

If we were Prem Champions and they were in the Conference League, some of them would still try to make an argument on why they have a better side than us lol.
And yet they wonder why all other football fans think they are so deluded.

Haven't you heard? It doesn't matter as long as they can score enough goals, or so I read on Rawk

The scouse boom has been reached then.

It never fails to amaze me just how accurate this graph is almost every year.

Gotta love the boom-bust cycle. Every pre-season their team, player by player, is comparable to the favourites  Some posters their actually compared their side to Mourinho's first EPL title winning side FFS

Were you not staunchly against the signing of Benteke in his TWAT thread?

Yes and I never challenged his quality or record but his suitability. Now that he`s our player I chose eventually to give one of the best coaches in the league that is our manager a benefit of the doubt and see if his plan will work out.
