RAWK Goes into Meltdown 2014/2015 - The "We go again" Edition

Nice to see them appreciating Best's talents. Perhaps we should make a Kenny Dalglish appreciation thread to reciprocate?

No takers? Ok...

Lovely, nostalgic stuff from RAWK:

How good was George Best?

This is the positive side of football. Forget the tribalism, forget the rivalry, the hate and the oneupmanship, this is what it's all about, the appreciation of the beautiful game. Its lovely to see any bitterness put aside out of respect for pure talent.
Just on that note, when you're talking about talent, pure talent, nobody else comes close. Messi, Ronaldo etc? Don't make me laugh. Best eclipses everybody and by some distance. On talent alone? Best there is, Best there was, Best there ever will be.

Dalglish didn't half fall over a lot but could definitely play.

Maradona was the closest....but even so..Best was 'magic'. My dad's generation would insist Edwards was better...wish I had seen him...

The old boy who lives next door (lifelong Man City fan) reckons Edwards was the best player he ever saw. I never saw him, but did see Best, you're right he was "magic"

Eh wtf? So was she based in London when Arsenal came calling? That twat would have left for Real, Barca or any club bigger than Liverpool. Simple as that, he was just too big for Liverpool and the Pool fans themselves knew it was a matter of when and not if. It almost happened with Gerrard and it happened with Torres. If you don't win trophies consistently or aren't capable of offering enough money, you won't be able to hold on to your star players. It's is just mind-blowing that they can't acknowledge that they are not one of the big clubs now... One season at 2nd doesn't change that. I try my best to avoid the Liverpool thread nowdays, its filled with cheap potshots from each side without any humour and just about zero logical posts...

Not WTF, but his wife is really from Barcelona...

That's why he didn't end in Real MAdrid.

This was fantastic. Just spent the last 30-40 mins reading more about Best and watching clips. I really hope to see more threads discussing our players of different eras here. Brilliant.
Me, too. George Best is without equal in the history of football, imo. I usually hate the cringeworthy eulogising that often peppers RAWK, but I think I'll make an exception in this case.

Interestingly, my dad was lucky to see all the great players including Di Stefano, Puskas, Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney, Pele, Best, Edwards, Cruyff, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo, C Ronaldo and he would argue that as far as being a complete player Duncan Edwards was the ultimate player he has seen, best individual was Best purely as in his day everyone tried to kick him off the park, best team player Pele, who always created opportunities for his fellow players. He always criticizes Messi, C Ronaldo, Maradona as prima dona players who often make the wrong choice for personal gain.

'Dear Mario,
In this crazy world we live in, someone you've never heard of or will probably never meet, feels, as a Liverpool fan, that its ok to write to you on an internet page to say welcome. But here I am, and there you are, somewhere, preparing for the Spurs game today.

But I'm writing this with real meaning when I say welcome, because you are now at a club that is different, and a club where the fans genuinely care about their team. Now I'm quite sure every fan of any team would say that, but at Liverpool, you're not just a player, you a Liverpool player and that means you're part of our family. You are now one of us, and you are now family (you're welcome round for tea anytime mate).

Welcome to a bond with a set of fans that will not just sing your name, but look out for you, welcome to a ground where the feeling is different, a sense of history, family and warmth, of times shared and where the outside world and press are invited in but never truly part of it, welcome to a place, a sense of place, a culture that sets us apart from the rest of them.

I've read about your upbringing, it must be very odd to have your everyday shared with millions, your history available for analysis and comment by strangers, and then to be called 'crazy' by these people who haven't a clue. They are the crazy folk, they are the ones who think its ok to write about other people as if they are professional pyschologists, mind readers and judges of character. Not you.

Well, welcome to a club that sets apart from that world. Liverpool is a club that does it differently, where the emotions are heartfelt not invented, the flags are fabric not plastic and the noise deafeningly sincere.

Liverpool's great players have all been special, and different and gifted and marvellous to watch, and all of them acknowledge the club has a special place in their hearts. You are brilliant at your job, wonderful to watch, and you arriving here has made a lot of people excited. You have the gift of creating emotion in men's hearts, that's the real meaning of football, and I hope I speak for all Liverpool fans when I say, have the best time of your life here, have a great career and score lots of goals sure, but really, truly, have a great life whilst at our club.

In some ways, Mario, welcome home.'

I remember Best himself rating Di Stefano in an interview. Dad used to go on about Matthews and Finney too.

yeah..our dads' generation were lucky.

if you just saw Best play...you would think..ok..that's how football is played. Then when you see other players...you would have to ask yourself...well why are they so clumsy...or what is wrong with them.

I'm trying to recollect when I saw him as a lad. That's about as close as I can get I think.

Although I was destined to follow United because of my father...I lost my soul to United when I first saw Best. It is a privilege to have seen the great man play football.

Why do Liverpool persist with this we are different to every other club, we are a family club, no other club compares rubbish.

You're a club that spends a lot of money on players, just like every other club.
You're a club that takes advantage of commercial opportunities, just like every other club.
You're a club that quite often overlooks genuine fans in favour of corporates, just like every other club.
You're just like everyone else.

Because they obsess over their players to the point it becomes unsettling, i.e the Mario letter above. It's just odd.

I wasn't around to see Best in his pomp, but yeah, it was my Dad constantly talking about him and referencing him that drew me to Man Utd, the team he obviously supported. Have an uncle in law who saw him play quite alot at Old Trafford in his day, at a time when they didn't record every match and he always says he's the best there's ever been. Such a shame that we only get to see a tiny glimpse of what he was capable of but I think it's enough really to make your own judgement on his abilities..... the greatest really in terms of pure talent. Ive never seen anyone as graceful as him on a pitch.

I suggest you guys stay out of the C Ronaldo thread tonight. His fan club saying he's United's GOAT....Hmmm, should be 1 interesting discussion.

indeed.

The ball seemed tied to his laces. and the amount of kicking he took.....

I was laughed at in the newbs for saying that Best has a legitimate claim to GOAT. I guess that's why it's hidden

I know that but the point I am trying to make is that there were far more important factors as to why Suarez left

The Newbs is no better than Manchester United Community, thank Christ we have this promotion system.

indeed.

The ball seemed tied to his laces. and the amount of kicking he took.....

He was battered about the place but never afraid of it; probably made him raise his game even further. Can't teach someone that kinda mental toughness and it's hard to even imagine just how good he'd be in today's game.

We see only snippets of his genius on youtube and he was probably doing that week in, week out for United. The guy was untouchable.

I suggest you guys stay out of the C Ronaldo thread tonight. His fan club saying he's United's GOAT....Hmmm, should be 1 interesting discussion.

Don't think I'm arsed - did enough of it in the Newbie thread before I got promoted. Ronaldo is obviously a class player but come on, doesn't come close to what Best had.

I see a new film is being released about Istanbul written by Nicky Alt. He hasn't half ripped of their over emotional fan base.

Saw that on the news tonight, made me feel ill if I'm honest.

Ronaldo might just be our GOAT, if, IF, you're counting more than just ability. Ronaldo, as it stands is one of the best ever, already but that is factoring in lots of things like, trophies, medals, individual honours, and his dedication to the profession.
If you're talking about pure talent, nothing else. Not longevity, not honours, not having played in a WC etc. Then Best is a tier above, IMO. On ability, with the ball at his feet he's streets ahead of even Ronnie and Messi.

In regards to manipulation of a football, whilst running at speed and being able to fool defenders, with more than one trick only Ronaldinho and Maradona comes close, IMO.

The ball seemed tied to his laces. and the amount of kicking he took.....
This surprised me the most. In today's world where they go down with the slightest hint of touches, the amount of kicking he took and still manage to get past the defenders  He reminds me of the best of what Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez could all do. Amazing player.

I always get amazed by how he rides those tackles, whenever I watch videos of Best. Some of them were downright criminal. Puts the soft players of now to shame.

They banned a Liverpool fan who had been on the site for 10 years with 6500 posts for saying...
Keep injury free they're gonna be a threat to the title. Some brilliant business in the window and top class manager to go with it.

 They really are pathetic over there.

It's not about individual opinions over there even if you abide to the rules, it's about saying what the majority wants to hear.

''The Dalglishs...''

Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish is the greatest living human I know. His passion, his ability, his desire, his integrity, his bloody-mindedness. Every characteristic the man has oozes selflessness and integrity. And possibly the greatest tribute you can pay the man is that he's not punching above his weight with a wife who shares the same wonderful qualities, and his children are an absolute credit to the family. They say you can judge a man by the company he keeps. Well the character of the Dalglish family speaks volumes about Kenny. He is a leader, an icon, an ambassador, and I am proud to be able to say that he is the figurehead for my football club and so many of the values that I hold dear.

from/for the ''Which one of you lot is this?'' collection.

I mean, why wouldn't you? I'll be honest. There were years there where, when I hit the vinegars, I'd see Kenny chesting that ball up in the air and smacking it in at Chelsea to win the league in 86.

It was automatic. I'm not even gay and that's what pops in my head when I've got the wolf at the door!

It doesn't happen anymore thank Christ. For a while there it was Xabi at Luton but now I'm fixed on Stevies third v Napoli in the build up but I kind of cutaway to Linda Pizzuti just as I blert. I haven't shouted her name out yet. Awks!

But you never forget your first do you?
