RAWK Goes into Meltdown 2014/2015 - The "We go again" Edition

When you think about it - all the conditions are ripe for Liverpool to take a significant step backwards, or at a minimum to return to their normal 5-8 position in the table. Suarez gone, Gerrard aging, and a gaggle of mediocre players coming in. Good times ahead.
And a crappy keeper. Tough years ahead. They got "lucky" with suarez. Reality will now set in.

I still don't understand why they challenged for the title last year and then Rodgers goes and brings in 50 new players, i mean i know they needed to try and replace Suarez but the amount of players they brought in were always going to mess it up for them imo.

I don't think Liverpool got THAT lucky with Suarez, the same as Southampton haven't with Pelle. The trouble is that players from the Dutch league are so overlooked and underrated. It's almost like the Henrik Larrson syndrome. "Oh he can score 30+ goals for Celtic, but it's the Scottish league, he couldn't do it in the Premier League" But he could have. And did when he made a couple of cameo appearances in the league for United. The man was pure class and would have been amazing to see in the Premier League when he was in his prime. Suarez was the same. When he first came a lot of people were saying he scored loads in the Dutch league but wouldn't in the Prem.

I really don't understand why it has become so unfashionable (especially for the top clubs) to sign players from the Dutch league. Especially when you consider how many top class players they have produced that have done well in the Premiership over the years. Robben, Overmars, Gullit, Van Nistlerooy, Van Persie, Van Der Sar, Van Der Vaart, Wilfried Bony and Suarez to name but a few. Blind is a prime example of an underrated Dutch league player. He has been superb for United so far and was by far the most underwhelming signing of the summer for many United fans. The amount of people who rubbished him, even after he shone brightly in the World Cup. It was as if United had signed someone from the Championship. I'm so glad the lad is proving everyone wrong.

It seems to me that players have to leave the Dutch league to prove themselves before being signed for a top PL club. All the while the top clubs are looking at other leagues like the Portuguese and South American leagues for their new world beater.

Back on topic, Brenton now looks and sounds like Moyes last year. His interviews must be so cringeworthy for Liverpool fans. He looks uncomfortable, stressed, panicky and full of lame excuses.

It's all Alfonso Alves's fault. Well, partly Kezman of course, but mostly Alves.

You're right though, they do tend to adapt quite well.

I really don't think it's as bad as you make out, and you're looking too much into it.
I definitely wouldn't say it's become 'unfashionable'.

Kezman! Forgot about him. What a let down.

I agree I maybe looking too much in to it, but it has definitely become unfashionable, and as I said, especially with the bigger clubs. Portuguese, Spanish, African, South American and Eastern European players have definitely been more attractive to the top clubs in recent years. At the very least, there have been more unknown gambles taken on players from those regions. The same way as the top German players are always considered by most fans to be almost unattainable or reluctant to sign for English clubs, the Dutch seem to be underrated due to the perception of the quality of their league in recent years.

It really is like last season never existed and they have reverted back to the previous 4 seasons, those home losses vs small sides, goalless draws at home and losses on the bounce.

Happens every time they reach the lofty heights of second place. The next season is always a disaster...

I really hope they don't turn on Brendon. We need him to stay as long as possible.

Not sure if this has been posted, but the stars were aligned before their match against Madrid.

Lol it's laughable.

Last season they were talking about Rodgers being Shankley/Paisleys second coming.

Now lol.

Feck me, the stars, the sky...
Oh, they're gonna smash Madrid later - it was written in the sky.

I looked up one day ,early season and was thinking about being back in the Champions league again (think it was during first England qualifiers) and I swear on my eyesight (I love my sight) I looked up and saw this almost right over my head . It's written ,feck them ,we're going to smash em !

(I have not altered this image in any way ,shape or form. )

It's their year.

Called it last year where is Barney when you need him or any the other Liverpool lads? Liverpool went out 2 cups early played the same team (mostly) the entire season one game a week. The other top clubs were all in disarray for one reason or another. I said if the sell Suarez and with Gerrard slowing down alarmingly then normal service will resume. The only thing is as much as they have been woeful and are clearly struggling to cope with Champs league and prem matches (why is Gerrard and Sterling being started every match especially after bemoaning England with Sterling) again the worrying thing is we are behind them in points and played the much easier fixtures!!

Ffs

Wait, I thought they just signed their Cantona, in Balotelli?!
Just goes to show how far Rodgers has seriously overestimated his own abilities. He thought he could do what no other manager or coach has done and make something of the idiot. All he's done is waste £16m and scupper their chances of any sort of even half decent season.

No I'm not having a fecking laugh.

Really, is this the same manager from last season? That's what I'm asking. Because if it is he's left his brain cells at home. All season he's picked the wrong sides, the wrong formations or made bad calls, oh and he never shuts up.

He's the polar opposite of the man last year.

Exactly. Seems to have realized his folly though, given how many times he has already thrown Balotelli

Surely, at some point, they have to see through the fog of middle management bullshit speak that Brentan hides behind?

Who could they get to replace Suarez though?

Sanchez would have been the best bet but he turned them down. Their options were limited to say the least.

They could have spent 30-35M to get one brilliant player (Cavani), rather than spreading it around the team. Balotelli - 16M, Lambert - 4M, Markovic - 20M.

Is Cavani brilliant? Would he have moved there? And for £30/35?

I doubt all three.

Why would any of those players want to go to Liverpool though?
It's a shit hole and they don't pay top salaries.

I am just saying hypothetically. They have spunked wads of cash on random players, might have let the continuity going from last season in the PL.

But...but...being back in the CL was supposed to mean that they were going to have a pick from the very best footballers!

The likes of Kezman, Babel and Alfonso Alves were pretty damaging to its reputation.

But, but, but Champions League football. The dippers kept telling us that was the key to signing the best players. I mean, look at us, because we're not in Europe we could only sign mid-level dross. Oh, wait...

Funny thing is this is the 3rd time now they've had a good season and then faded the next.

But last year it was just different they were like no this time it's for real, this time it's not just the flash in the pan, this time we have the squad, have the players, have the manager and have the attitude.

Lol.

I know right, we could only sign players like Di Maria, Falcao, Herrera, Shaw

While they were able to sign players like Lallana, Moreno, Lovren, Manquillo, Balotelli

Lol.

No joke, in the office the most deluded of Liverpool supporters sits in front of me, the convo's can become a bit heated and the shit he comes out with is pure RAWKish, but during the transfer window he made 'a list' of transfer targets, yes a list right there in the office.

His list comprised of the names...Falcao, Reus, Barkley,Vidal, Di Maria, Higuain and Sanchez. He was so sure that Liverpool were going to get at least three of his targets as they had money to burn, were back with the big boys and playing the most exciting football in Europe with one of Europe's best managers...His words not mine!

When they ended up with a few Southampton players and Balotelli, he tried to big up all the signings as improving the squad and that Balotelli was 'worldclass' and was really happy with the signing. As the weeks have went on he has started complaining about Can, Markovic, Lovern not being good enough, and especially Balotelli who he now claims is just shit!!

Needless to say I came in on Thursday morning and the first thing I asked him was, "are you making a new list?"

Not another wholesale purge of all but the most hopelessly devoted, they'll be no RAWK-ite posters left soon. It'll end with the mods at RAWK Towers sat around eyeing each other suspiciously for the first sign of possible insurrection. Not being in full kit on a matchday and that kind of thing.

This guy must be on borrowed time.

- You can talk about tactics, so long as they do not involve Liverpool.
- You can talk about team selections, so long as they do not involve Liverpool.
- You can talk about individual players, so long as they are not current, past, or potential future Liverpool players.
- Avoid mentioning Rodgers, unless it is to tell another poster that they know shit compared to Rodgers and should shut their mouths.
- You can make any post condemning another poster for "thinking he knows more than Rodgers"; subjective, i.e. if you THINK the poster THINKS they are more fit to manage Liverpool than Rodgers, please attack and derail the thread as necessary.
