I'm all for having confidence and supporting my team - but reading your post I'm forced to ask the obvious questions. Before I go any further though I have to say I was not and still am not a Van Gaal enthusiast. Thinks far too highly of Aloysius Paulus Maria "Louis" van Gaal for my liking.
I'd have pushed the boat out for Jurgen Klopp - magnificent job done at Dortmund but it never happened and we are where we are.
I think as disappointed as I was with the manner of last season's shennanigins and some of the weird statements made by our former manager, you cannot ignore the fact that Fergie left Moyse some very real er - what should we call them - let's be poilte and call them "opportunities" eh?
Your claimsare based on what evidence? For me, a United old-timer of 64 years standing, this midfield is just about average - for a club of United's history, expectations and standing - and they are yet to gel with any kind of indication that they know they belong to a team. Successful teams are all built upon the combination of talent, good coaching, hard work and that unpredictable spark - the occasional piece of good fortune - Mark Robins FA Cup goal 1990 remember?
For the now I see evidence of some level of talent - Di Maria is clearly a decent player - but by Christ he's had some great slices of luck already this season don't you think? How good he might really be we'll have to see when the going gets tougher. I don't see him doing too much in the way of grafting in midfield though.
For me, Blind and Herrera have things to learn and things to prove yet. All 3 of the mentioned need to adjust to the pace of the EPL - so different from Spain and yes even different from the Netherlands - and they are in the process of learning still.
But is this midfield really as good as we've seen over many years at United? Where's the gaffer ? Where's today's Keano or Robbo? Where's today's warriors up front? Think we still have a long way to go and probably a lot more money needs to be spent - hate to say that being old school but over the last 4 or 5 seasons, we don't seem to have been bringing youngsters through other than to loan them out to other clubs. Blackett and Januszaj have figured a little but nothing earth-shaking.
I still rermain to be convinced by the coaching advice given to the squad. For me , given today's take-home packets, AT THE VERY LEAST, players should ALWAYS be giving their total commitment to hard work during preparation for match day - they call it training but I prefer it to be called LEARNING. If teams can get these first THREE elements broadly and consistently right, surprisingly, that elusive 4th little element - LUCK - more often than not appears to follow. Funny that eh?
