RAWK Goes Into Meltdown | 2013/14

On the penalties thing. I don't think that many of them were wrong calls. However, what is slightly above the norm was that they didn't get the usual amount of good calls turned down. That is, every team will have several very good or '50/50' penalty shouts each season that the ref waves away. This season I'd say Liverpool were being given more of those, particularly away from home, than you'd expect. For example, when the hell would you expect a referee to award them three at OT in one game? Usually after getting one penalty away at a big team, you have to be machine gunned down to get a second.

Not claiming a conspiracy, just one of those slightly anomalous seasons for being awarded penalties and their increased attacking obviously contributed to this.

They also benefitted from a couple of very big calls IMO. Gerrard and his elbow early at OT could have been a red and cost them the win. Then there was Suarez at home to City getting away with his ridiculous dive when already on a yellow card.

All in all, despite getting quite a big rub of the green they still managed to feck it up. Wasn't it great?

Don't forget Skrtel punching the ball away in the 90th + minute v someone, possibly City?
And Kompany shanking it straight to one of their players who produced a worldly volley.

It was getting ridiculous at one stage!

It's funny all this lesser evil business.

Other years City winning the title would be a colossal disaster. This year it was terrific!

I'd have preferred Arsenal to keep their bottling run going in the cup, but compared to Liverpool winning the league, it didn't matter a jot.

Just hope Madrid come calling for a certain unpleasant striker. One to rid the league of him, but obviously two to massively derail any momentum.

This is classic blinkered subjectivity. Big calls go both ways. As a United fan you're inclined to recall the ones that went Liverpool's way. But off the top if my head there's the "offside" against City (away) and the foul on Suarez in the box at Chelsea. Two very big calls against two rivals. I'm not crying about these but to offer the narrative that it went all Liverpool's way is disguising the fact that Liverpool finished where they did because of quality attacking and team play not referee favours.

If this doesn't happen (Suarez's daughter has just been enrolled into a Liverpool school for September) will this place go into full meltdown. For the past 18 months the refrain has been: "They'll be screwed when Suarez leaves".

What if he stays?

Why do Liverpool fans think that every neutral will go for them?

Most people I know hate Liverpool because of their fans actions at games and they hate Suarez.
It starts in Liverpool and works its way out from there. The city itself has a very strong identity, to the point of being quite self involved and taking itself far too seriously. Sees itself as a land of plucky, passionate, artistic sorts, that no one could help but love.

I feel the need to add that I usually get on very well with Scousers. I imagine, because I'm massively self involved, take myself far too seriously and expect everyone to love me...

No, no, no... Livepool finished where they did becuase Gerrard slipped.

Most neutrals I know wanted Liverpool to win it until all the Liverpool fans started crowing about all the neutrals wanting them to win it. Some neutrals may like the idea of the club at the moment, but everyone hates the fecking fans.

Hence the entire internet uniting to mock the shit out of them when it all went to pieces.
 not one single neutral I know wanted Liverpool to win, City or Chelsea was their choice.

I'll take that as a compliment. Presumably you still regard Liverpool as the league's best team if you can single out one incident that prevented them from winning it. Encouraging stuff.

There's no denying that Liverpool were a good team this year but they did get a helping hand on occasion. I don't know the actual figures but there were a few occasions where Suarez should have seen red and dodgy penalty decisions were given.

Really? When?

Deal. You take whatever compliment you like. I actually agree that you were the best team in this league in terms of forward play and entertainment. It's only after Gerrard's slip and those 9 crazy minutes at Crystanbul that you were no longer entertained. That was still entertaining from here.

The city game was farcical refereeing. Really that should've been the turning point in the title race.

Don't think anyone should complain though, the way the season finished for them couldn't have been more entertaining. Total heartbreak with Stevie G central to their demise.

The karma gods were sticking the boot once again.

If he stays then he will revert to type and spend half the season suspended because expecting the little twat to go two years without showing his true colours is too much

By the way, anyone who wanted one team or another to win the title is, by definition, not a neutral. They cease being neutral the moment they start preferring one side over the other.

What a glib, over cooked opinion. It was supposed to happen last season...

As for reverting to type, ripping up the league by scoring and creating goals? There's a very good chance of that.

Ummm he DID revert to type last season, he bit ivanovich, not the first time he's done it, before that it was being a rat faced racist little wank boy. He will do something equally despicable next season.

Last season, as in most recent one where he scored or created 40+ goals.

Two strands are now appearing here. Firstly he is leaving to Real. Secondly, if he does stay he will be suspended for loads of games.

Either way it's obviously bad news for Liverpool.

Sorry, I'm talking about the season you didn't finish second. The season just finished he was exceptional, granted, and I'm far from certain he will leave, but if he doesn't his track record realistically suggests it won't be long before he does something vile

Can't you gimps take this into the Liverpool thread? Less gimpery, more lolling at RAWK!

Unless Suarez or his wife have confirmed this publicly, then that is some of the weirdest ITK information I've ever seen.

And if he stays, which I'm expecting him to now, I expect him to have another great season. But he's not Ronaldo or Messi, he's not going to rip through all competitions. With more games to play plus coming back from a World Cup where Uruguay could go quite far, he won't be as explosive as he was this season.

I can't claim to be ITK...

Hmmm, crystal ball-based conjecture. Fair enough.

At no point in my post did I say it all went Liverpool's way.

I said you got more correct penalty calls than you'd expect a team to get. My point bring that away from home in particular, you tend to only get about one in four decent shouts awarded. Last season I reckon Liverpool were getting more like four out of five given.

Fortunately your team utterly fecked it up and failed to make the most of their best chance in decades.

If Suarez stays I expect him to have another great season.

He seems to have finally put aside bad temperament and when fully focused on the playing there's no better striker than him in PL.

Suarez, weather we liked it or not, it's great player and can only get better with better teammates, and don's see any reason why Liverpool wouldn't add some quality players to the squad.

Hoping he'll leave or stay and suddenly get banned is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Enrolling a child in a prospective school has got to be the flimsiest mitigation for staying I've read from the media or supporters in a long time.

If Madrid come in big, Suarez will agitate yet again. All players do.

This is supposed to be a fecking great thread making fun of RAWK. Youse all are fecking idiots.

Back to mocking RAWK:

The "We go again" poem.
(Why do these guys love poetry so much?)

We Go Again

A special season now is done
And sadly there's no title won.
But memories of how we played
Will hold us through these summer days.
One memory for me stands out
Our captain gives a rallying shout.
Emotion strong, he tells his men
We Go Again.

Those words so heartfelt and inspired
Don't change because of what transpired.
For Stevie is a man who leads
Desiring always to succeed.
Pushing himself and those around
To always reach for higher ground.
He bottled it? Go boil your head
Support your fecking team instead!
As we back ours and know that then
We Go Again.

So Chelsea came and things went wrong
And now they sing that fecking song
And flood the web with endless memes
Our captain's slip, their bitter dream.
Don't let them take those words from him
As if it's ruined by what they sing.
Don't let them say he fell on his arse
And gave the ball to Demba Ba.
Because though he did, we know he slipped
And from there they were well equipped
To defend their lead, to waste our time,
To keep their deep defensive line.
We know that horrid twist of fate
Was just one game of thirty-eight
As Mourinho spouts his bitter chat.
The Special One? The "Special" Twat.
I'll stick with backing Rodgers men.
We Go Again.

I'm proud of reds who backed their team
And lined the streets as they made us dream.
I'm proud of our courage and conviction
As we battered all pre-season predictions.
I'm proud that at 33-1
We oh so nearly had it won.
I'm proud of our captain and proud of his words
And proud I'll remain despite internet nerds
Who hide behind computers and type on their screens
And have no idea what that passion means.
It means that they care, that they'll fight for the club
For those in the ground and for those in the pub.
For those who support us home and away
And even the gloryhunters who turn up in May.
The importance of that passion cannot be diminished
Though our best season for years had a frustrating finish.
You'll see how it matters next season when
We Go Again.[/quote]

On super Stevie me. Put your house on it lads, this chaps believes with ALL HIS HEART.
Stevie will get his hands on the title before the end of his career. This may sound crazy, but since I was a mid 90's kid I had a deep hunch that Liverpool would next win the title in the 2015/16 season right at the end of Stevie's career. I don't like superstition, but I do believe with all my heart that we will win the title in 2 seasons.

We go again.

On Gerrard vs Toure
The average fan now things Yaya Toure's peak is higher than Gerrard's? I don't even... Like what the feck.

On Suarez
There’s a place for geniuses – and he is a genius. What would Bill Shankly think of Luis Suarez?

From the "Omens" (that we're going to win the league) thread.
I'm on a boat and we sailed past Cara Island and my towel number's 19.

5 seconds after our 3rd goal went in the call to pray started blasting out over the whole city.

Allah wanted everyone to give thanks - he is a red.

Last time I was in orlando was 2005 the year liverpool won the champions league

Right now I'm in orlando and when I checked in to my room we are staying in room 2005?

I don't think that he's changed at all, Liverpool have had things fairly rosey this season. If they start struggling again, I think Suarez will pull a few disgusting stunts again. I could be wrong though.
