You had the perfect season. Both Suarez and Sturridge were bang on form and City suffered quite a long dip in form with both Aguero and Toure out for a few spells during the season. Referees were awarding non existent penalties that won you games and you managed to get away game after game with your horrible defending. I don't think you can do any better than you did last season. I'm afraid this season for you was 08/09 all over again.

On the penalties thing. I don't think that many of them were wrong calls. However, what is slightly above the norm was that they didn't get the usual amount of good calls turned down. That is, every team will have several very good or '50/50' penalty shouts each season that the ref waves away. This season I'd say Liverpool were being given more of those, particularly away from home, than you'd expect. For example, when the hell would you expect a referee to award them three at OT in one game? Usually after getting one penalty away at a big team, you have to be machine gunned down to get a second.
Not claiming a conspiracy, just one of those slightly anomalous seasons for being awarded penalties and their increased attacking obviously contributed to this.
They also benefitted from a couple of very big calls IMO. Gerrard and his elbow early at OT could have been a red and cost them the win. Then there was Suarez at home to City getting away with his ridiculous dive when already on a yellow card.
All in all, despite getting quite a big rub of the green they still managed to feck it up. Wasn't it great?

Fair point. But there's a huge difference between mocking what "you'll never walk alone" means for many Liverpool fans and taking the piss out of their parodic use of the acronym.

...is the truth. Obviously. I don't doubt Liverpool were the more popular choice among neutrals, though. Would be strange otherwise, really. I doubt many neutrals find Manchester City particularly endearing. Nor Chelsea.

To be fair, some United fans find it offensive for Liverpool to bark on about "5 times, la" when they won 4 of those during a 'golden era' where they won them in quick succession, when you consider the reason why Uniteds golden era was cut short and didn't have in 5 in 5 wind like Madrid or 4 in 8 like Liverpool. It doesn't stop them though.
Liverpool fans will have to be very optimistic if they think they will be competing with strengthened City and Chelsea teams next season.

I honestly don't know a single neutral that wanted Pool to win it. Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham fans I know all wanted City to win it, probably down to the reaction of the media and Liverpool fans, as well as seeing their smug faces and their keeness to talk about their history and early title wins after cleaning up in the 80's. Obviously there were some neutrals that wanted Liverpool to win it but they certainly weren't the popular choice by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, you clearly know a different breed of neutrals than I do, then. Most neutrals I know wanted Liverpool to win it. Both because they don't care much for City - and because they don't care much for United, actually.

I only know of one neutral who wanted Liverpool to win, and she only wanted that because she wanted more than five different teams to have won the league. The rest said "I hope Liverpool don't win it because we won't hear the end of it if they do".
Yup. I didn't really ask the neutrals who they wanted to win it before Liverpool went on their title run and their fans started getting all smug, nor did the neutral fans share their opinion on the matter, simply because we all didn't realise it was a possibility. But as soon as we did, United fans along with the neutrals seemed to grow tired of the Liverpool fans' arrogance and the media love-in for them, which was beyond embarrassing and ridiculous especially from feckin Sky, who Liverpool fans seem to hate for some weird reason.
Yup exactly. What I mean is that a few liked the idea of Liverpool winning rather than City, except that their odious fans would have been insufferable, and no neutral likes them any more than we do.
