Benitez interview on Espn. He's still whining.

Rafa: No Liverpool approach surprising
September 10, 2012

By ESPN Staff

Dalglish received his marching orders in May before Brendan Rodgers was eventually given the nod by the club's American owners, after the likes of Fabio Capello and Roberto Martinez reportedly snubbed offers.

Benitez, 53, who led the Merseyside club to a both the Champions League and the FA Cup, as well as a further Champions League final, believes after his previous success an approach was the least he was owed.

"It was strange not to be approached," he told the Irish Independent. "We know the club, the players, the Academy and we have even more experience now...the fans were positive about the idea."

The former Inter manager left Anfield by mutual consent in 2010 after a frustrating season saw his side finish seventh.

However, despite the disappointing end to his spell at the club, Benitez is quick to highlight how significant his achievements were.

"We used to play so many important games that it seemed it was normal and it wasn't," he added. "People were talking about 'the past', but just a few years ago Liverpool FC was number one in Europe."

Liverpool have had a poor start to the new season with Rodgers's men having only picked up one point from their first three games.

Christ he refers to himself as WE, is that because he is fat enough to be two people?

This reminds me of when KK was hovering over the shoulder of Hodgson. Hopefully it goes just as well.

"Scum of the earth." Christ, we might as well be on RAWK.

 you bell end.

They'll be suckholing one minute and stabbing him in the back the next. You expect him to accommodate their needs? He is selective and understandably so given the shite they put out.

They aren't all bad. But there are definitely ones that try and use their position and their own agenda to try and publish one-sided bollocks to wind people up. The standard of journalism has taken a huge nosedive and I don't believe in 'you must look past the bullshit to see the great stuff' for me the bullshit just shouldn't be there in the first place.

They're just professionals paid to do their job, the readers are their employee, and they write what they think their readers want to hear.

Just think about that for a second.

Anyway this is supposed to be a laugh at RAWK thread it's getting a bit off topic now in a 'lets just generally talk about Liverpool' sense.

 Rafa thread locked.

You've crossed that line again gents. It seems like you just cannot help yourselves.

There is no way that we are going to have a "How Rafa would be doing better than Brendan" thread on this site. No matter how much some of you might like that.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Most RAWK boards aren't available at this time, due to the Hillsborough Report being far more important than football chatter.

Wait they locked all the boards so they can talk about Hillsborough?

Yes mate, and understandably so (IMO). I read on there that the other boards might re-open this weekend.

I think its a ridiculous decision personally - but then so many of their mod decisions seem to fall under that umbrella.

There will be people on that forum that lost loved ones that day as well as others who survived the leppings lane death trap and have been riddled with guilt ever since as a result (obviously they shouldn't be but that's how the human mind works). The tragedy that occurred that day will be something that is of incredible importance to all Liverpool fans, and Liverpudlians in general, so I don't see why rawk deciding not to chat about formations or what have you is a bad thing at all. I think they've got this one spot on, if you ask me.

I don't see it as a good or bad thing, just a bit strange.

^ Exactly, they're professional football columnist. They're paid to do their job, which they do it brilliantly, writting shits and bollocks the readers would want to read.

They're not CIA whistleblower, or the Warfront reporter that reports war atrocities, they're at best entertainment section columnist.

What more can you expect from them

I agree.

No gem after their defeat?

Rafa's doing a meet and greet with the LFC supporter though. LOL

that fsw's getting desperate eh?

Wish Brod give him one

There's a bit of optimism

I can't believe some of the negative comments! Did i watch the same game as you? We just totally dominated an away game. Look at the stats. Yes its frustrating to not get the result and miss chances again but theres some really good signs.

Apart from the result, everything was amazing

It's not the end of the world for Liverpool unless you're a typical Pool fan with over the top expectations. They've had a tough schedule to start with and should have won today and against City but instead they're breaking records that they wouldn't want to break.

And long may that continue.

The Premier League is basically agenda-driven reality television. The Sky producers decide on which incidents they'll replay endlessly and which they'll brush under the carpet. The tabloid-reading knuckle draggers that make up the fans of 95% of clubs will lap it up. Wayne Rooney's off-the-ball elbow on Wigan's James Mccarthy was the worst act of cowardice and villainy I've seen in the last few seasons, yet he not only escaped a ban, but any type of longterm media scrutiny.

I don't want Luis to change. He doesn't elbow players off the ball, he doesn't dive without contact, he doesn't routinely put fellow professionals in danger unlike half of the Stoke team. If he cuts down on his theatricality, he'll lose his edge. Let's just enjoy him while we have him, and send him away to Barcelona/Real Madrid after a few seasons in the Champions League with our blessings. You can't win against such a level of hypocrisy.

Two penalty claims yesterday. Minimal contact in both claims initiated by the attacking player. Both exaggerated dives.

Some quarters like to cry witch hunt with the party line: 'if that had been Suarez, the media would be going crazy'. Except it was Suarez and the media is focusing on Welbeck instead.

So, yeah... about that media-driven agenda.

Rooneys elbow, whilst forgetting about brave stevie g's forearm smash on Michael Brown, or the cowardly elbow on Welbeck, or suarez sly kick on parker, or pulling rafaels hair, or elbowing ivanovic. Agenda you say

What's to forget? It was a great moment for football fans everywhere.

or pulling rafaels hair

It makes me laugh how indignant you lot still get about this. So wee little raffy had his lovely curls tugged a little. Who cares about those things. If Rafael did, he would be the biggest girly man on earth. He's got a forum army performing the role for him though, years after.

I dont care, but what about this agenda? Apparently it's only Rooney and welbeck who get away with elbows and dives.

youre missing the point. its generally brought up as a condemnation of suarez character. I doubt it affected the victim too much. but that he would pull another mans hair while that man had his back to him sums suarez up nicely. the act itself is the issue. and just one in a long list. petty and cowardly.

Meh. I don't buy the conspiracy. I think you do get more calls in your favour than we do, but I don't think there is any concerted conspiracy or corruption behind it.

And Suarez is definitely a dirty player, or at best carelessly clumsy. I actually think this part is worse than his diving, which tends to get way overplayed. He doesn't actually dive that much these days.

Adam, when he was still here, was much more cynical than Luis in that regard. But Chad is an old-fashioned hardworking Scot and Luis is a theatrical South American, so they get a different story spun for them.

I do think he dived for the penalty claim, but he probably didn't see it that way. Reckon most latin players think that as long as there is contact, they are justified in throwing themselves to the ground. There might have been, but not enough to cause that tumble.

Another player might have gotten the penalty and I think we are slowly moving towards a state of affairs where dives like that become seen as legitimately drawing the foul, but we shouldn't be. Contact doesn't and shouldn't automatically equate to "foul."

It's a tug of the hair. An utterly trivial act. Speaking of petty, there is some irony in your lot repeatedly bringing it up more than a year after it happened.

I don't think Rafael was too bothered. It's amusing to see how it still riles your lot. I hope he pulls it again next week.
