RAWK Goes Into Meltdown (2012/2013)

They have embraced a very hazy idea here, which seems useful to their cause: "Foreigners" are more effeminate than hard, British boys - and are thus discriminated against by the hopelessly anachronistic FA.

I see. That explains all the 'I hope that lying frog Evra gets his legs snapped off by some big bastid like our Andy' posts.

Why are they saying things like this?

'Ridiculous though cant say I expected much better from them!

So that is worse than racism is the message....'

'So biting is worse than racism?'

Because to be fair it is. I would imagine if you asked anyone would they rather be called one racial slur, or be bitten by a person once they would choose to be verbally abused, after all a bite that broke the skin could lead to serious infection.

There are some people who are so far removed from reality they think that physical violence is actually not as a bad as racism :wenger:

sticks and stones and all.

That's what I was thinking, surely that is why you can't play with a bloody shirt or with a cut. These people are are delusional. He is a complete headcase. What is all this love for Suarez. He is a disgrace to the club, how can they even think to compare him with some of their greats.

I hope they don't boycott the boom & bust cycle, though it appears they've not got much to boom about at the moment.

I hope Liverpool make a big event out of Suarez's return to action, live on Sky Sports: dry ice, screeching bats, Lurch playing the harpsichord as a cobwebbed Count Luis rises from the grave...or possibly the penalty spot.

With all these analogies they keep bringing up to prove how unfair it is, it shouldn't be forgotten that they're offended more by Evra pretending to bite a fake arm than by Suarez actually biting an actual arm. They were also offended more by Evra complaining about being racially abused than by Suarez racially abusing him.

Offended and majorly butthurt.

And then he'll boot Parker in the stomach like last time , whilst the tannoy plays Handel's 'See The Conquering Hero Comes'.

I love how some of them have suggested boycotting the FA Cup.

You know, because it has FA in the title!

Am I the only one who thinks biting is worse than making a racially based slur?

There are different levels of racism, as there are different levels of violent conduct.

As a black man I'd much rather have a race based insult thrown at me during the course of game than have someone grab my arm and sink their teeth into it.

As a black person I wouldn't like either but I've had to deal with far more racist abuse than someone biting me.

Forget the biting for a moment, it was a violent action that had no place on a sporting field. The ban is fully justified and if he had been playing rugby he would have got 20

I'm honestly not sure if it's worse.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see the FA has taken his racist suspension when considering the length of the ban. Don't know why they wouldn't. It all goes to behavioral issues. They are not separate in my mind. This is building and previous acts should be part of the decision, much the way they would be in a court of law.

I wonder why he felt the need to point out that the guy was black, surely anyone can have an opinion on racism regardless of ethnicity?

Yes, but as a black man, you'd probably still sue / punch the guy who either racially abuse you, or fecking bite you

I'm a chinese, and I'd probably sue the racist and punch the bite(r)? is biter the correct word?

It's like that 'Office' scene when Brent tells the racist joke and justifies it by saying the black guy didn't mind it

You can't really pick one over the other, both racially abusing someone and biting someone is disgusting and wrong, and has no place in civilized society.
I don't think it's right to compare and contrast the two incidents, just know they were both carried out by the same person, Luis Suarez.

How much flesh has to be removed before biting is worse than racism?

A gram? Two grams? A kilogram?

We'll need a chart.

I love their apparent refusal to accept reality:

Wow! Outrageous length of ban. We should appeal without any shadow of doubt. I can guarantee if Suarez was wearing the red of Manchester United he wouldn't get such a ridiculous ban. Corrupt dithering old bastards

Happydonut - made me believe in humanity one again

People clearly didn't read the transcript for the Evra-Suarez case etc.

When banning a player, the FA take into account all the factors going against a player, and the migitating factors for the player getting banned.

In this case, as was the last, the ban is extended because the player has been involved in many past incidents, and they are in a relatively short period of time. For a player like Aguero in his ass-stamp on Luiz, a migitating factor would've been it's a first offence and he's not really known for it, the FA would've indicated that it's 'out of character' to do so, as well as Luiz generally being heavy handed and winding up strikers a lot.

There's not too many mitigating factors in this case, for Suarez (you cannot really defend the action, to our knowledge Ivanovic wasn't doing anything to Suarez, nor had done anything to him earlier to wind him up), perhaps the frustration of conceding the penalty.

In the other corner, he's been involved in lots of serious incidents, and clearly hasn't shown progress in eliminating them from his game, and he's had lots of yellow cards this season too. In some states you can get thrown in prison for 3 strikes policies I believe, even if all the offences are very minor etc. That is why it's a 10 match ban, and why you cannot compare it to other cases, because that's not how the FA do it.

The FA add matches, often doubling punishments (that's their favourite) for particular things, in the Evra-Suarez case, they doubled the auto 3 match ban for the racial element.. they recently made it so that any racial incident gets 10 matches automatically.. in this case it's 3 for automatic violent conduct, doubling cause it's a bite probably, not a kick out etc (less impulsive.. or is it?). and then doubling against cause of past experiences. Gives you 9 matches (or 12, can't remember how that works). Add or subtract 1 or 2 because of a weird mitigating factor/another thing that's going against Suarez and you've arrived at 10.

Not saying it's the right process, saying it's the process used, and I'm not surprised it's 10 matches.

It doesn't matter if you think Suarez is guilty or not of past incidents. Fact is, in the FA's eyes, he has been guilty of past events, both with them and at Ajax, and repeat offenders get far bigger bans, from jail terms to driving bans for driving without licenses, to demerit points (Cross 100 in my country in a certain period and its a long ban but get 95 in that period = no punishment).

Liverpool Echo has some 'interesting' comments coming in.

Suarez bites Ivanovic LIVERPOOL FC striker Luis Suarez has been hit with a 10-match ban for violent conduct following his bite on Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

The Uruguay international has until midday on Friday to appeal against the hefty suspension.

The ban would rule him out of Liverpool’s final four games of this season and the first six of the 2013/14 campaign.

What is your reaction to Luis Suarez's 10-game ban from the FA?

Reds managing director Ian Ayre has expressed his shock at the size of the punishment after Suarez had issued an apology and been heavily fined by the club.

“Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision,” Ayre said.

“We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment.”

Suarez had pleaded guilty to violent conduct but refuted the Football Association’s claim that the standard three-match ban was “clearly insufficient”.

A three-man commission met via videolink this morning to study written submissions from both the FA and Suarez.

An FA statement read: “Luis Suarez has been suspended for a total of 10 matches after an Independent Regulatory Commission today ruled on a charge of violent conduct.

“A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission today upheld The FA’s claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect.

“This follows an incident with Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday’s fixture at Anfield.

“The Liverpool forward had accepted a charge of violent conduct but had denied The FA’s claim that the standard three-match sanction was insufficient for the offence.

“The incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed. Suarez has until midday on Friday 26 April to appeal the additional suspension, above the standard three matches.”

They can't have a liverpool player spoil Van Persies perfect season can they....

Embarrassing decision and we should appeal immediately.

Well over the top. Who are these INDEPENDENT people on these boards?

Why did it have to go via Video link?

I smell trouble ahead here.
I think LFC will appeal against this and have the 6 games next year suspended and Luis will be put on probation,if it happens again the ban will stay. Something not right here. The FA are the most corrupt people in Football.

And while I think we should just enjoy & laugh right now, rather than debate racism, I do think racism is far worse than biting. Biting is just silly, using racist slurs (even if you're not racist; just to wind someone up) is truly inexcusable.

Watching Granada Reports, and they are talking to Liverpool fans and they must of picked the ugliest and daftest looking fans they could find.

Nah that's just Liverpool fans in general...after all Lee Evans is one and look at him;)

YES!

And now let´s plead for the courts to start handing out severe jail sentences for shop lifting Cadbury bars.

The punishment has to fit the crime and it doesn´t in this case. Surely you can see that?

so they admit stealing cadburys

Those comments from Ayre are remarkable. Everyone except the ravening scouse hordes seems to accept 10 as roughly the right number. He got 7 the first time, and second offences usually get punished more severely. Plus he was warned about further incidents after the Evra racism ban.

This time, Ayre did the right thing after the incident: he unambiguously condemned Suarez' action and said that the club would take it seriously. That preserves the club's standing somewhat and it's the quickest way for everyone to move on. So why on earth is he immediately returning to the rabid 'fight our corner no matter what' mindset which caused the club so much grief after the Evra incident, just because a very reasonable ban has been handed out?!

Sometimes it is mind-boggling that the people behind the scenes at LFC are professionals - leading professionals, no less, given that they are working at one of the highest-profile clubs in the world's most famous league. The level of basic incompetence and the lack of professional detachment is, as I say, mind-boggling.
