Ravel Morrison (Only football related)

Horses for courses mate, I have a keen interest in our youth but most of my predictions have fallen flat. So for that reason I'm keeping shut on Ravel, I don't want to jinx him!

If you think Ravel is far behind Wilshere on a technical level, then I disagree with you.
In terms of opportunities, he has been restricted for one reason or another. Think physical or behaviour reasons.

Edit: Just reading the Wilshere thread and people are comparing hem so I thought I'd point out that Paul Scholes didn't really 'make it into the first team' until the age of 20/21 so by what you said Scholes could have only dreamt of being in Wilshere's class if they were around at a similar time.

Scholes didn't make it into the United first team until he was 20/21 because he was competing against Ince and Keane in midfield as well as Beckham and Butt and with Cantona, Hughes and McClair upfront which was his original position, and then Andy Cole came along to only exacerbate things.
Let's put it this way, would Wilshere have gotten in the Arsenal team ahead of Vieira, Petit, Gilberto etc? Very doubtful...

Is it just me or does he come across as this side's leader? Such a composed presence in the middle, dictates play, rarely gives it away whilst at the same time always looking forward. Lovely couple of goals too, and on a few occasions showed a mature head when tempers can occasionally get you into trouble. Standout player today for me, very promising. Let's not get into the Wilshere comparisons (for good or bad) either, he's not played in the premiership yet. Shouldn't be long though...

Not just yet. Given his previous;). He'd be better just being the devastating presence he is

Prefer Tunnicliffe or Pogba as leaders...but that's my opinion

Just you :) I think that there's a batch that aren't afraid of taking responsibility. Yesterdays game was typical of the spirt in the squad. When Pogba got sent off, we could easily have lost momentum but Cole slotted the penalty in and we maintained our confidence. Personally I think the leader tends to be the one who takes the battle to the opposition so i'd say Tunnicliffe. Morrison/Pogba and one or two others offer inspiration and imagination to our play.

We've had lots of leaders down the years but when you think in midfield in the last 20+ - Robson, Ince, Keane...Tunnicliffes in the same mold which you have to love as a United fan. You have other leaders but the drive really comes from midfield

Fair enough

Do agree that there are a bunch of them though, definitely got the United spirit.

I got this sent to me the other day from a Croation newbie to post, enjoy..

I've heard form good source that SAF have avoided placing this kid in the first team prope because he thinks he doesn't have the right temprament yet for first team stardom.
Yet ability wise SAF and his staff feel this kid has the game for first team football already.

What say you redcafe youth football experts?

My main concern would be more whether he's ready physically. I think he'll be on the fringes next season and a possible inclusion in the US Tour.

Never noticed it before but from that video compilation it seems that Tunnicliffe is generally the person he looks to celebrate with after he scores.

He has a scary amount of talent, which that lengthy reel of vid tells us... two good feet for dribbling, passing, shooting, great improvisation and reaction time, carries the ball beautifully, great pace, times the release of the ball well, and has a good eye for a pass as well.

Not being one to believe in jinxing or anything I'ma state what I am hoping for (not expecting, obviously): Morrison to take over Giggsy's mantle.............. when he hangs up his boots at the ripe old age of 45.

From Twitter (@mrmujac): Forgot to mention....Ravel Morrison did a swivel turn today that not only bamboozled the Sunderland defender but had fans going WOW

We need video!

Aha, a new Morrison gif will soon be circulating around the internet. Excellent.

On the mentality thing that the Chief mentioned - I presume this would be his extra-curricular stuff? He's struck me as one of the more mature players on the field when I've watched him recently. Really hope he does get a chance before the end of the season in some form, ridiculous talent.

Great video.

I don't think the turn thing was on the main highlights, but I it may have been shown in the show outro during the credits. He's kind of facing a player, steps over the ball and spins left 180 degrees, his opposing player then moves to that players right to close the ball down, but Morrison then spins around to his left again, taking the ball with him this time and past the player. Takes about a second, and is very bamboozling. Basically gets the player to commit without realising it.

Just watched the video...the skill you refer to is not what he did on Thursday...very hard to describe!

Maybe the club just don't want to show it, which would be a shame. It's kind of like when you hear people talk of Edwards and such and you can only try to visualize it in your head. I don't see any other reason why it'd be not included, especially if it got such a responce.

However, watched the video posted and you have to re-define what a good midfielder is and I think we have that in Morrison. Even if he has a poor game, when you have that much potential, all it takes is one moment or flash and you score or create an opportunity for someone else.

I have to be honest, I can't see it. Can you draw it? :D

Well darn, I thought it must be that. Are they likely to show the whole match at some point? I'm a skill geek.

It would be a whirl of lines, arrows and exclamation marks, equally unintelligible to my description. Seemingly wasn't the "oh snap" moment in question, but I was still suitably impressed.

The thing that strikes me about Ravel Morrison in that clip is the ease he seems to do things, very skillful player with great close ball control & bags of pace, looks like an incredible talent alright.

Watching that vid yesterday I kept thinking his playing style really reminds me of someone, but couldn't put my finger on who. Just watched it again & saw it straight away...Zidane! Before you take the piss watch the vid again with Zizou in mind, particularly where Ravel's on the left.
