Ravel Morrison (Only football related)

I wouldn't worry very much about what a journalist thought his expression looked like.

So we just ignore the very real evidence that this lad has been hanging around with some seriously shit people and behaving in a sociopathic way?

He needs to recognise that his talent is a way out of this crap or it's downhill and a wasted opportunity. It's up to him what route he takes. Either way Utd can survive with him or without. We'll have and we do have other talents who'll go on to fame and fortune

No, just Daniel Taylor's reporting of the supposed reaction to the verdict. I don't think anyone's arguing that he's not been hanging around in a bad crowd, that much seems obvious.

The thing about it is though, the incident he was in court for took place in September 2008. He has seemed to mature since then, his Facebook is gone, so for all we know he is already on the right path and this news has just surfaced in the media at an unfortunate time.

Word.

The amount of maturing most people do between the ages of 16 and 18 is immense. In fact, it shows in the way he plays.

No money in the bank!! Man must be stacking that mattress money..... I think the article might be just sensationalising things abit. However the problem for me with Morrison is him as a person not knowning that football should be his main priority and the fact unlike some kids that hang around with the trouble crowd his club is located where he grow up.

Scored a last minute winner in the FA Youth Cup Semi-Final against Liverpool at Anfield and kissed the badge in front of the Kop...you couldnt make this up.

Ah, I thought this thread would show up on the Main Page.

Indeed it was a good goal. Would love to see the whole match if anybody send me a link to somewhere where I can find extended highlights.

Love that digital banner from RoM. I've heard some people say he lacks passion, but you wouldnt think so looking at that.

from manutdreserves on twitter:

I was told today that Morrison may finally be realising that his carrer is on the line as he has moved in with another United player and away from the trouble that has blighted him so far

If the news about Morrison is true, and i stress if, and he can stay out of trouble, he must have a hell of a chance of being a top player for our first team one day

Is manutdreserves someone on here?

LFC TV isn't scrambled on Sky any more. The match is on atm and is repeated again at 11pm. 2-0 down and came back to win 3-2

At Anfield

Pogba sending off was April Fool's or something.

Was brilliant yet again, he's stupidly comfortable in tight spaces and looked a class above most on the pitch.

If the rumour about him trying his best to get his career on track is true we've got a hell of a player on our hands. One of the most talented I've seen at this level.

He's always got the bigger picture in his head.

Word. Much like Welbeck, he frequently seems to be thinking 3 or 4 moves ahead, a quality which becomes more advantageous as he progresses through the ranks and starts playing with experienced pros.

Ravel is our version of Wilshere. Both can run with the ball, have a picture, have a nasty streak. I think Ravel has a slight edge though obviously Wilshere is getting his chance now. I hope it won't be too long till we see him if he continues to behave himself. I think we can be encouraged from the talent coming through

The big question is should we send him out on loan.

It worked well for Wilshere, but you'd worry about Ravel being sent away somewhere where the club couldn't keep a close eye on him.

Hard to call really. Perhaps wait and see how much he matures at the club for the time being, then make the decision.

As much as I love Morrison as a player, Wilshere was doing things at 16 that MOrrison hasn't managed yet. He has an awful long way to go to even get close to Wilshere's class and this kind of baseless hyperbole doesn't help anyone.

If he ends the season in the form he's showing now and maintains his commitment there will be a chance he's taken on the pre-season tour and be involved in the Carling Cup and it's up to him to force his way into the manager's plans.

He's not as physically mature as Wilshere was at his age, so you have to be careful exposing him to the senior game.

Where does everyone think he'll end up in the long term? He's obviously played on the wings a lot for us but I actually prefer him centrally where he's always involved in the games. Plus he's very good at picking up space between the midfield and defence.

If you think Ravel is far behind Wilshere on a technical level, then I disagree with you.
In terms of opportunities, he has been restricted for one reason or another. Think physical or behaviour reasons.

Edit: Just reading the Wilshere thread and people are comparing hem so I thought I'd point out that Paul Scholes didn't really 'make it into the first team' until the age of 20/21 so by what you said Scholes could have only dreamt of being in Wilshere's class if they were around at a similar time.

His best position will be as an attacking midfielder in a 3 I think where he has the license to roam and harder to pick up.

What was he doing at 16? Regardless what holds players back isn't always the same thing is it. Morrison would be nearer being loaned out or featuring for the first team if he had Wilsheres mentality. Long way to go? He just needs to grow up and play games and if his mentalities right, he'll go far. I was talking about TYPE of player...Oh and btw, who's it hurting Doris? Maybe you'd be wiser give a proper responce then acting above your station

ps: bit rude. Sorry Samabachan.

Very astute post about a great talent.

I've never seen him on the wings mate (though he might have featured there at some point) but think he's in the hole or in midfield

Can't see him ending up anywhere but as a CM.

He played as a winger when he first burst onto the U18 scene, but he has nbot played there for a good while at this point. Has been a central player all season this year, and most of last year.

I think he can be fantastic in a 3 man midfield, and with a bit more maturity and experience, could be a great player in a 442. There is a definite maturity and composure to his midfield displays this season, a lot more disciplined than I would have expected from him to be honest.

I'm pretty sure (but you would be better off asking one of our resident Arsenal fans) Wilshere spent a good bit of time on the wing when he was younger (not unlike Morrison).

TBH we don't need to get in a pissing match with anyone, we have a prodigious talent on our hands but there is still a long way to go and expectation levels need to be kept at a reasonable level.

What people need to realise though is we're fans. Supporters. What we do means very little in the bigger picture. IF it's a story or a rumor about guns and such then sure. However, it's recognising a player. It's still up to him to do the business. It's still up to him and nothing we do changes anything. If he ever reads this, all he takes from it is people have faith in him and wish him well

It hurts no one. We're fans, not Sir Alex or the coaches. We can offer opinions. No one ACTUALLY knows the future and therefore anything is relevent when you accept we have absolutely no idea. I was reading a thread earlier about Shearer and Sir Alex said 'Beckhams future was in the middle'....even the great man got it wrong, but who gives a feck? That's what makes it worth our time.

I'm talking about our own sanity (slightly greedy of me) but I don't agree. Fan opinion most certainly does seep through to the players and it would be horrible to read threads in the United forum if he doesn't set the world alight straight away.

When a player deserves criticism (and praise) they will get it and most times rightly so. But when a player gets criticism because of fans unrealistic expectations I think it's slightly unfair.

Anyway back to point, I think expectation has been kept at a reasonable level (that's why I like the youth forum). He's a very good player and I hope him the best as does everyone here.

See I think everyone should watch mutv or go down to see the kids. I think people should be aware and should have an interest because then people are more paitent because they know what to look out for. People have less paitence when it's word of mouth but when you've seen it over a time you understand it better. That said it's a world problem not so much anything else. I didn't always watch the reserves but it's good for the soul, even if it gives you a chance to see more United games. :)

Unfortunately, people are what they are and so it doesn't really make a difference. We might as well be on autopilot. I don't think we can tamper passion for the game just because some people are cnuts lol
