Ravel Morrison (Only football related)

Most definitely.

He's only just 18 yrs old and a lot has gone on in his life. From a footballing pov there's a huge potential in this lad and he needs the correct environment for it to delevop fully. He has a good environment within United but unfortunately he doesn't seem to have one outside of the club.

If they could improve his outside environment we would have one hell of a player here.

Well we have lots of young talent here. That's the funny thing. A lot of people rate petrucci and that''s the threat for me. We might reach a stage where we think, well we've other outstanding prospects...but at the same time, it might not be as bad as it sounds. At the end of the day, where we are coming from is 'shit it's not working' when really once again the medias written this short obtuse story and we don't know the facts...yet. So lets wait and see

I took the girlfriend aspect of it as a positive, somehow.

KingEric7 - seeing the positives in domestic violence since 2006.:smirk:

Seriously though, I see it as quite the opposite. Physicalyl getting him away from street-gangs is one thing, and an achievable one at that.
But if the guy has general issues with anger and violence, which will manifest themselves in any environment, that's a much trickier issue to overcome.

That's true, although I think anyone who spends a lot of time hanging out in street gangs will end up with "general issues with anger and violence" even if he didn't have them to begin with.

Removing them from the environment is a quick fix but it's only through growing up and maturing as a person that they can make any real changes.

feck knows, though, this is speculation on speculation. That's the way we roll on here :)

So he destroyed a mobile phone and physically attacked his girlfriend. The first one is not a big deal IMO, the 2nd one is more serious and it sounds like he's a right prick. If he cant sort out his young life soon, cant see and appreciate the chance that he's got, United will let him fall no doubt

The point is he's been charged, reading the article that is.

If he's found guilty on the assault charge he'd better have a fecking good lawyer to keep him out of the nick

But you wont be sent to prison just because you have been charged with assault, correct? It depends on the severety of the attack, so it could also be just a fine (I'm not British, so can only assume)

Bloody hell. What is wrong with him? Got all the talent apparently and has a great deal of hype around him at United, why piss it away?

I thought he was on a final warning after the last case. Didn't the magistrate say that it was due to the club's intervention that saved him from a jail sentence but they won't be so lenient next time...

Just intimidate the girl into saying she hit him first, simples. Also call her and tell her you're at the store buying her a replacement phone so she shouldn't mention that he's destroyed her other one.

She gave him a 12-month referral order and said he'll have to serve time if he breaches it, but I'm not sure committing another crime constitutes a breach. A referral order's obligations seem to be about mediation, apologies and reparation. But I don't know anything about this, I just read up on it for five minutes now.

On a serious note, I'm almost flabbergasted that the club hasn't cut ties with him now. He's played since the latest incident and he must have been on thin ice after the last court case. I assume it would take him going to prison?

Think they did the right thing by standing by him.I'm no liberal but isn't support and rehab better than prison for something like this? It wasn't murder,a sexual assault or armed robbery so as serious as it was it could be looked upon as deserving of support rather than jail.He was still a kid at the time of the offence so there were some mitigating circumstances.

It would take him being actually found guilty for a start.

The least we can when discussing this is assume he's innocent until proven guilty? That's what the court will be doing anyway.

To clarify, I'm not saying I think they should suspend or release Ravel and I genuinely hope they don't. I'm actually pretty desperate for him to make it at United. It just surprises me that United and someone as 'no nonsense' as Sir Alex are being as patient as they are. You have to wonder at what point is the club going to say enough is enough, though.

Special players get special consideration. Ravel has bags of potential for his age so perhaps deserves more leeway.

I am pretty sure patience would be running thin now though. If he is found guilty then perhaps he has used up his final chance.

I hope we stand by him.

He has responded to these allegations very well. We've heard he's shown more commitment and professionalism to his training and of course his performances have been consistently good. Hopefully he can get these issues sorted then leave them in the past where they belong. His future here looks very bright to me.

How do we know how well he's responded to these allegations? He's only made one sub appearance since they came out?

Think he's referring to the trouble he was in earlier in the season, PS.

The word assault can mean anything though. He probably just shook her up and bruised her arm in the process. Smashed her phone too? She probably was doing the dirty....

Some people should wait before proclaiming him guilty. I think the Club definitely trusts him and that's why he played in yesterday's reserve match and today's academy match.

Not 100% sure how recent the interview was, but in a piece in today's Mirror, Ferguson named Morrison (and Tunicliffe) as stars of the future:

“The likes of Ryan Tunnicliffe and Ravel Morrison, you see some of them doing very, very well, so we’re always going to put an emphasis on young players coming through from the youth team. That will always be the case."

If that quote is recent (i.e. yesterday) then that might be a good sign regarding Morrison...

He was supposedly arrested before the Chelsea Youth Cup game, so they'd have had to have been sitting on the quotes for a while. I'm taking solace from it, anyway.

Twitter

On twitter: What a load from last nights awardss well done tunnerz tho appart from *** - Shit

I'm not positive that's a legit account, but if so, he's an idiot.

It's being followed by a few journos but no players, which seems unusual, so hopefully it's not real.

edit: I've been corrected in the other thread, so never mind.

Further evidence that the club needs to step in and ban players from using Twitter. I remember reading a while ago that they had a policy which prevented players from posting on message boards and the like, so feck knows why they allow them use twitter. It's a tabloid scandal or FA ban waiting to happen.
