He looks huge whenever the camera zooms on him, but he can't use his physicality and keeps losing most of his duels.

Think this is my biggest problem, doesn’t use his physical presence well at all, defenders know he has no touch and stick to him so even if he gets it they toe it away or slip by him and take it.

Chido doesn’t even have the body and was still causing more problems than Hojlund, by being a nuisance and active.

Forget wanting goals, he doesn't want the ball. No striker at the club has ever recovered from that severe of a mental block. Zirkee imo has a similar block but only in the final third and is at least somewhat serviceable elsewhere. It's like final season Rashford/Martial all over but with effort swapped for courage.

What's the main reason he's so much worse this season compared to last season?

The team is a lot worse, and we were bad enough last season! Also, the bigger the sample size, the more likely you are to be able to draw a more accurate assessment of how good a player is anyway. Also, the longer a player is here, the less people are willing to make excuses for them, so it could just be you seeing things differently. If this were last season, this thread would almost certainly be full of mitigation due to age, new team/league, previous injuries etc. The performances themselves could be identical to this, just viewed through a different lens.

I don’t think there’s a huge amount of difference between either season. It’s all perception. If Hojlund musters up a scoring run between now and May and makes it to double figures, there will be people saying that this has been a very good season anyway, which is what happened last season. So as bad as he’s been so far, if the number ends up as something we can spin, people will spin it. I think he’s got 5 in the Europa League and 2 in the league. If he can get to 10 in the league, I guarantee many will simply say ‘he got 15 last season which is a good number for a young striker’. I repeat, the same happened last season.

I mean Rashford or Martial could at least complete a dribble or get a shot away. This is a basic requirement for a forward and Rasmus is not even able to do that most basic task. These stats are tragic. I can't think of any other performance worse than this in my time of supporting this club.

67 mins played.
Shots - 0
Dribbles - 0
Touches - 12
Successful passes 2/4
Possession lost - 6
duels won - 0
Fouls 2

Those stats don't even make sense. He quite clearly had a shot from Eriksen's cross in the first 10 minutes so that is wrong for a start and I have no idea what the criteria for duels won is either considering I twice saw him win a ball in a straight contest with a defender in the first half. Not saying two duels won is anything to be bragging about but the stats simply don't match what I actually saw happen so I am dubious about their accuracy to say the least.

No idea mate. There's a few sites that have posted these stats. I don't know what the criteria is for some of these stats. What is clear is that Rasmus needs some time out of the first team to clear his head. He's not a bad player and he's shown that he can be a handful to opposition defenders. Might be a serious mental block or something going on in his personal life.

Agree with that, sadly due to our rather poor squad building and the current injury crisis there is little hope of him getting an extended break. Chido could and probably should start the next few league games although I am wary of damaging his progress by putting that kind of pressure on him so soon in his career. Rasmus almost has to play against Sociedad with Chido ineligible and yet more injuries after Fulham but we can hope that his prior excellent goalscoring record in European competitions continues and gives him and the team the boost it badly needs.

I feel bad for him because he's a hard worker and an honest guy it seems. But he'll probably go down as the worst 9 in Untied history.

Thought he started to look better when Ruud came in as assistant, he was looking better at holding the ball up and bringing other players further forward. Since Ruuds gone maybe hes got no one on the coaching staff showing any belief in him. His confidence is definitely shot and needs time out of the game, although I have my doubts whether hes got it in him to be a top striker. I was hoping he was going to be like a young Shearer but hes not got any kind of killer instinct. Looks like another waste of huge money sad to say.

He’s just turned 21 and looks completely confused about what he’s supposed to do. Confidence annihilated, he’s also probably home sick.

He needs to be sent out to a league where it's going to be physical and where he'll still get opportunities to score plenty of goals to help remember where the back of the net is - a loan to Celtic or rangers would be a good move

It's honestly cruel to both us and him to continue playing him.

Agreed. I understand we don't have options, but at this point it just looks like abuse.

I got mad when Bassey outmuscled him, but then remembered it was Bassey. Then Chido outmuscled Bassey, and I got upset again.

 What the hell is this? Homesick for where? Italy? Ha! And he's 22. Four days older than Liam Delap, who looked the superior player the other day (and I don't think he's that good to begin with).

He's just not good enough. I don't let the shirt fool me any more.

Homesick now. God almighty!

Moving mountains? 3 goals in 27 appearances. One goal in the Premier League. My point was we needed a backup striker who was going to actually score goals and relieve some of the pressure.

Moving mountains....... compared to Hojlund.

Zirkzee is routinely used as a 10 behind Hojlund and there's far more to playing as a forward than just scoring goals. Zirkzee outperforms Hojlund literally everywhere, dribbles/duels/chances created basically list a metric for forwards and he's better by miles.

Hojlund is literally 32/32 in the premier league for duels. No striker wins a smaller %. Obi won as many duels vs Fulham in a sub appearace as Hojlund has in 5 premier league games.

His metrics aren't just bad they're genuinely among the worst I've ever seen.

Fancy him to have a good game on Thursday - the only positive about him so far is his European form for us.

Come on Rasmus

Why not try him in one of the 10s before eventually loaning him out or shipping him? See how he behaves when he receives the ball with the front to goal? Still haven't really seen him with the ball at United.

We have nothing to play for in Premier League now and mostly everyone else are shite there anyways. Not impressed by Garnacho at all.

You want to try a player with terrible technical ability in the no.10 role? Bloody hell...

You're joking right?

How can you play someone who can't dribble, pass or control the football as a 10?

Well he was quite decent before coming to United when going down and receiving the ball deep, so how can we really know? He even showed signs of having vision and football intelligence back then.

His confidence is definitely extremely low, but to say he can't dribble or pass is a stretch. He always have to do all of this with his back against a defender, having to turn, then outdribble 1-2 defenders. Do we actually know if he's not just overburdened and would thrive with more space (like every other footballer in the World)?

Just saying we have nothing else going on currently. Nothing to lose. So why not give it a try, at least for one game?

Never saw that, all he did was play on the last shoulder.

I thought so too initially, but having looked at some individual highlights from last season, he was a completely different player. Offered so much more off the ball, offensively and defensively. Even on the ball he looked pretty assured and safe.
It's like his mentality now is to hold the defender first and not even think about the ball while he used to control and then react before. I really think he should be taken out of the line-up for now, continously playing him isn't doing him any good.
Start with Zirkzee up top and have 2 of Bruno/Eriksen/Garna/youth behind him.
