Hojlund is dead already? Wtf how did that happen? From stress fracture of his spine to being a paraplegic and now dead?

The world can change on you real quick.

RIP Ramus.
Yes, most likely in around 60 - 70 years or so. The Caf is very good at rounding up players’ age.

That’s just it though, isn’t it? They assessed (& I’m sure they must have received 2-3 different opinions from experts at the very least) and deemed it not a big issue with some added rest?
Not quite.

Stress response hotspot on his back means
1. It needs to heal for several weeks
2. It can reoccur

Best-case scenario - it will never escalate into something that ends his career, but with something like this and at the age he is, they will need to make sure he is used very sparingly for the entire season, maybe two. Because his body is not finished growing and strengthening yet. This is common in youth, and can be a question mark until he is older.

Like you said, this wasn't severe enough for medical to fail, probably, but it is most definitely something that affects his usefulness for the club in the immediate future and possibly for the next couple years. Which is a factor for the price. When you buy something that has risk of failing, you should negotiate risk discount. That is what competent club would do. Which was the point I was making.

It just so happens this minor injury is on his back. What you’re all saying is akin to - wait he had his medical and he has a sprained ankle!? Wtf why did we pay so much I cant believe this i can’t believe he’s got a dodgy ankle, it’s Martial all over again, we've signed a crock’

Except, sprained ankle is not high risk of recurrence and not something you have to work around until his body fully matures (possibly for the next couple years, at his age). What you are saying is comparing cancer that is treatable but can relapse to diarrhea. Not the same.

I assume you are a doctor of some kind with your detailed knowledge about hot spots. Still. Are you sure that there are no degrees to this? That there is nothing such as milder or more severe hot spots, that therecan be nothing such as a very mild hint of a hot spot that could make a medical team say for instance that this is so mild that it is not going to affect his season nor have a big risk of returning, and it will heal in just a few weeks of rest and then ease into full match exposure over a few months. You are certain this is not possible? Because for me, as a lay man, if a physician at a top football club told me this was possible, I would just accept it to be valid of the bat.
I hear the delay on giving him a squad number is they aren't sure he can carry two digits

He needs to toughen up and spend a season on loan in the Championship
Even though he just became a cripple and his football career is over, at least he just signed a 5 year contract and he's settled financially.
Some times this place can be genuinely funny.

If you don't laugh you will end up crying on here.

Really wish the takeover was done and we could get Kane in to help take some pressure off him. It’s a big ask for a young lad to be the main source of goals here. With just him we will have to line up like last season plenty of times this season. City have 2 quality options and we have now one unproven.

If we could get kane rasmus would play a more Alvarez style role to begin with which would suit us fine. Having him learn from kane, it would be good but also having that depth and rotation. Plus injury cover.

I would take any (experienced) 10-15 goals a season central forward right now. It's just unfair and too much of burden on that kid to be our main striker.

Martial would do that if he could only stay fit

I will be very surprised if we do not hear talk of Alvarez being unhappy with his playing time this season if he is used in the same way as the last.

the difference is hojlund is 3 years younger than him and yet to win any major trophies. Alvarez has won it all with city so could afford to move somewhere else for playing time. What else has he got to do at city? A fresh challenge wouldn’t be a bad thing for him. Kane could do 3/4 years with us with hojlund his ready replacement. Plenty of game time for them both in the mean time.

I am not sure if players get real fulfilment in winning trophies when they only play a bit part in it, I imagine they do if they are older players near the end of their careers but not young ones embarking on theirs.
Alvarez went to City being fairly unknown whereas Rasmus has come to us with a big price tag and expectation and Erik will be starting him as soon as he is fit.

Coaches in FC Copenhagen claim that his brothers are at least as talented as Rasmus. One of them is United fan too, and the other is a Chelsea fan.

Of course they do. "Hey, United, you just bought Rasmus for €80m. We have two more that are just as talented!".

They couldn't even recognise Rasmus' talent and let him go to Sturm Graz.

Rumours were that he wanted to leave this summer. I suspect he will do one more season and then be on his way assuming he doesn’t somehow find a way into the team as a starter.

Rashford scored 30+ goals last season, Bruno always has goals in him, it is more up to the likes of Antony and Sancho to start stepping up than all the pressure being on Hojlund.

Or maybe Højlund just was not the biggest talent, when he was 17-18 years old. I can think of talents in Denmark (Daramy or Maurits Kjærgaard), who were rated higher than Højlund at that age, but they have not developed as much as Højlund since. In that light, it is probably not that improbable that Højlund's brothers as 18-year-olds appear to be at least as good as Rasmus Højlund was at that time.

The poor boy will be ripped to shreds with haaland comparisons.

Hope he's ready for it.

Really looking forward to seeing him play and seeing what role is being melded into and what he offers in our set up.

At the same time I don’t want him rushed in if the set up isn’t ready, and if his injury is still present.

Worst case scenarios are him pushed into the team too early before the team / him are drilled and it going pear shaped and the media / fans immediately calling him a flop - or him being rushed in before fit and it becoming a long term or chronic injury.

Don't you worry... United fans are as likely to turn on him as quickly as scousers are to certify him a flop after his 3rd game.

Looking forward to seeing him play. Can’t wait for him to link up with Rashford. At least he’ll get another full week of training to get to know his team mates better. Not sure if he’ll be fit for next week either though.

I think the talk has been that he will be able to contribute by the Arsenal game. But I think its best to bring him back after the International Break... 2 weeks after that -- home game versus Brighton

Yet to kick a football for us but this thread is in full flow.
