I obviously hope he's fit enough to be considered as part of the matchday squad, but I also really hope he's not being rushed back out of desperation and ends up missing longer.

The biggest remaining matches for me now are the FA Cup ones. With that in mind, not sure how I'd like us to treat his return. Hopefully he's fit enough for a sub appearance v Everton, and then will be a bit sharper v Liverpool. Though it all feels a bit early and I'd probably imagine the first sub appearance might be against Liverpool in the cup. It's a shame the cup game is before the international break not after it, as it would be good if he had a bit longer to recover for that huge QF.

The first ever Dane to win the player of the month award as well, which I found kind of surprising. I would have thought Schmeichel or Eriksen in his Tottenham days might have bagged one.

Unfortunately, he was no Tim Flowers or Alex Manninger. :(

Shmeichel played in an era when it would be unthinkable for a Manchester United keeper to be busy enough to win a player of the month award. Never mind, God forbid, player of the season a la DDG.

Yes, I was obviously thinking about his Villa days.

A 20 minute compilation of his general play this season:

As a United fan, I can't recommend this channel enough. He was making some great videos on Diallo last season that helped keep up with his loan. A lot of those videos are gone now, but he does usually make United ones for both the first team and youth players.

As for the video, this is why I was hesitant to criticise him a while back like a lot of people. Sure, he wasn't scoring (outside of the CL), but his general play was impressive enough to see the potential with him. Not to forget the context in terms of how poor we've been at creating chances for him in general.

Yeah. In addition to that... I kept banging on the point of just how young he was, and how (logically) it takes longer for players of that type to break through (usually guys like Ibra, Dzeko, Lewa, Kane, etc break through at 22).. Young forwards typically break through by being big off the ball roamers, dribblers, smaller agile forwards. Center forwards who play like proper center forwards, who duel with center backs physically, pin them, hold the ball up among other parts of their game... that is the hardest thing for a young player to do. It's because it's a 18-22 year old competing with full grown professional defenders for the first time, so naturally they won't be quite ready for that physical fight on a consistent basis and they'll have to learn to put it all together. There are so few proper strikers who actually have done anything in big leagues at those early ages, and Hojlund is already among the best of the past 30 years in this aspect.

Not anymore with O’Driscoll in full power since INEOS takeover. Head of Rehab was let go. I hope that is.
O'Driscoll's arrival doesn't have anything to do with INEOS because he was appointed after Steve McNally stepped down in January 2023 after 16 years to take up a performance support director's role with PGMOL. O'Driscoll was confirmed as the replacement from Arsenal but only joined us at a set date, and to fill the gap United had a interim in charge until O'Driscoll arrived called Jim Moxon.

It was during that time between McNally stepping down to take up a role with PGMOL and O'Driscoll arriving that we seem to have had issues with injuries.

It wasn’t well timed that changearound.

Quiet game. Did some good, did some bad. Inconsistent movement and runs.

Didn't get much service and lacked sharpness, which is understandable.

Not much to see here. Hopefully will get more fit over the break.

Had some decent touches in the first half, but fluffed the best opportunity he got. Faded badly in the second and was rightly taken off. Typical first game back.

I hope Denmark uses him a bit to get sharpness back, but wouldn’t mind if it’s only two times 60-70 minutes or so.

Considering he’s been out I thought he looked sharp. Understandable he couldn’t see out the 90 but the only comment really worth saying is it’s fecking great to have him back!

Like that he challenged Van Dijk fir most things, not giving him an easy ride. And the go he head at Garnacho at one point as well.

That was actually McTominay with that crimal pass behind him in what looked as promising counter attack, when every other football player would've played it in front of him. Pass was so bad it went to one of their players.

Very quiet today but he only looked half fit. I hope we haven't rushed him back.

You're right.

Glad he’s back. Rusty as you would expect, needs some time, it’s too big a game when you are unfit.
