Varane's last season at Madrid and this Euro both were bad

This just isn't true. Although his performance at the Euros wasn't the greatest he still managed some impressive intersections and key tackles.

Last season Madrid hade the second beat defence in the league (28) just three away from A Madrid. This with a midfield consisting Kroos and Modric and their serious lack of recovery pace witnessed in the gme vs Chelsea. Casemiro getting caught up the pitch left the back two exposed often.

Varane is still a great defender and you're not doing him justice.

Has looked a bit shaky at times. Clearly better than his partner, but not a tournament that you'd buy the player for a high fee and extravagant wages on the strength of what he has shown.

Fortunately, we seem to have tracked this guy for years so if everybody has been doing their jobs we should know everything about this man.

I'm not in love with the idea just because I've not seen him at his best and I feel uneasy about buying a Madrid player of this profile, the financial repurcussions in terms of what this guy will cost over a contract means he has to be pretty spectacular because of what we will lose the ability to do in the market elsewhere. Still, fingers crossed we would be getting it right.

So Varane blamed Pavard for his poor defending but then backed Pavard when Pavard blamed Pogba ? Sure makes a lot of sense.

Every player is knackered after a long slog of a season. When has an international tournament really got the best out of all the top players.

He's top 3 in the world at CB. Huge upgrade over what we have in defence at moment.
He's been this poor for a season and a half now. This isn't a relatively new occurrence.
Many of us share the concern that he's declined.
He's not been top 3 for a while now.

I just cannot understand all these comments about him having a poor tournament. I think he was by far the best French defender and had a good, not great, tournament. The second goal vs Switzerland he perhaps could have done better but sometimes the cross and the movement is just too good. Not every goal conceded is a mistake.

Same as Ukraine's goal last night. I admit I would happily blame Lindelof for all that's wrong in this world, he's just not good enough, but I can't find myself to be too harsh on him for that goal, it's a fantastic cross.

Yes. They were all having a go at each other. Even players' families in the stands.

Bet it was Rabiot's mother that started it.

RMC Sport have provided new details around the clashes between player families last night following France’s surprise exit at the hands of Switzerland in EURO 2020.

The verbal battle appeared to occur principally between Veronique Rabiot, the player’s mother and certain individuals close to him, and the Pogba family. The two families exchanged words after the third goal for Switzerland in the stands – Veronique asked how Pogba could lose the ball like that in the lead up to the Swiss equaliser.

At the full-time whistle, Veronique Rabiot asked Kylian Mbappé’s father to tell his son off so that he would be less arrogant. She also took aim at certain journalists for the way they were sucking up to Mbappé.

An aggressive exchange of words then occurred between Veronique and Mbappé’s mother, as well as the PSG attacker’s father.

For about 20 minutes, Adrien Rabiot’s mother clashed with several families of players present in Bucharest on Monday evening. Other families witnessed the scene. They were shocked by Véronique Rabiot’s attitude and the timing of her outburst, right after the match. The situation appears to have originated from earlier in the match when security officers had to ask those close to Paul Pogba to calm down, after they reacted aggressively and negatively to Adrien Rabiot’s mistakes, in particular, during the match.

Strong ‘I’ve gone in too strong on Pavard so best to agree with whatever he says next in case he cries’ vibes from Varane there.
Maybe but as @Lynty says they all got on like soccer moms.

Who are your top 3 out of interest?

And where in a list would you rate the current version of Varane?

Van Dijk and Marquinhos are top 2 anyway.

There's a large whack of players competing for next best under those 2 in my opinion.

Varane would be in that group.

Varane needs a good partner besides him and I'm sure most of you would agree that Maguire needs one too, so I feel that this is a good match.

As far as I have heard there is no french meltdown, there is Veronique Rabiot being herself and players being upset after a goal, the later is fairly regular. Now they are all going to be lambasted in the next few months, so a future meltdown could come during the qualifiers.

Surprised Benzema didn't murder anyone yet.

Nothing would surprise you with that fella.

"Benzema suspected of selling teammates organs on black market"
"Benzema found guilty of operating high end, footballer for hire, sex slave ring"

"Benzema's plan to donate Rabiot's mother to Somali pirates' cause revealed.'

Seriously though, he got reasons to be absolutely pissed after his match contribution.

The baggage involved with Rabiot is enough for me to be excluded from future squads, if I was the manager I couldn't have the nonsense that follows him round.

As for the rest of them fighting, I'm glad someone has give it to Pogba, about time he was given some home truths. The biggest luxury player I've ever seen in my life, sooner he's gone the better for me can't stand him.

Also, he's just not that good. Not enough to be irreplaceable anyway.

Or
Varane- you did shit there Pavard lad
Pavard- yeah but not just me. Pogba gave it away first
Varane- good point. Oi Pogba that’s your fecking fault lad

If I'm not mistaken Pavard vs Varane was after the first goal, iirc Varane was shouting at Pavard presumably because he didn't close the gap with the crosser. Hopefully he lambasted Lenglet when he saw the replay.

Kimpembe and Lenglet have to be glad that most of the attention and fallout hasn't been aimed at their disasterclasses , they were awful and so was Pavard which is hilarious when he's deflecting blame.

The Rabiot stuff is unsurprising since the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He had the nerve to boycott and throw a public hissy fit after being selected as a reserve for Russia after being left out of the squad because he though he was too good for it.

I'm shocked Deschamps still decided to bring him this time when the likes of Auoar and Ndombele were left at home, he's an entitled prick and his mother, who's his agent too, has always been a nasty piece of work. She was the primary architect behind his shameful and ugly divorce from P$G. She really believes she gave birth to a Zidane regen...

Putting Pavard in a wingback role was beyond stupid.

Playing a back three was stupid, at the best of time I hate that formation but it's particularly stupid when you don't have the most important pieces which are wingbacks.

I'm Surprised the French press haven't blamed Benzema yet since he's usually their go to scapegoat.

On Rabiot, imagine your agent being your mum, absolute mummy’s boy.

He obviously believes her hype about his ability as well, he nothing special. Not sure how he gets minutes in such a talented side.
