Varane was better imo. But depends on who you ask, I’ve seen both get down to 3/10 in newspapers.Who was worse yesterday? Varane or Pau Torres?

On an open market, he's still a top 5 pick, wouldn't you say?
Yeah, I’ve never really rated Kimpembe personally, but I don’t like him so maybe I’m biased, but I don’t think he’s up to muchIt was a one man backline at times with him having to cover up for Lenglet and Kimpembe's deficiencies so often so I felt he had a strong match overall amidst a side and set up that was dreadful defensively.
He was their stand out defender by some margin.
The thought of pairing him with Maguire is still as appealing as ever to me, truly believe it'd be one of the 3 most formidable CB partnerships in the league
Valid concerns, but with both of them, it wasn't their quality that was the issue, it was fitting them in, or, in Di Maria's case, him not wanting to be here in the first place. If Varane picks us from all the options available to him, it's a pretty major coup for us and you'd hope, a statement of intent from the player.Yes.
I am personally always wary about any signing where you feel his best years might not be with us though (I am not saying Varane is too old, I am aware he has many years left). I always like to look for players whose defining moments will be with us, so preferably on an upward trajectory. On the rare occasions when we have signed players already at the top it has not normally gone well. Veron and Di Maria spring to mind.
To me it looked like Deschamp kept moving everyone around in that defence and the only one that seemed confident in all positions was Varane. I'm not saying it was a flawless performance but the Swiss definitely targeted Kimpembe, Lenglet and Rabiot as the weakest links in that defence. Those saying he was at fault for the second goal last night, need to rewatch that scense maybe you might have a different opinion now, that ball was whipped into that area with perfection, once the ball got pass kip mbepe there was no other outcome.
I think that’s where the outgoings come into things. We typically tend to have a net window of around £100m+-ish when the managers are backed. £77m on Sancho and £40-50m on Varane is around that mark.
We have a few players to sell — Lingard, Dalot, Pereira, and possibly Matic; should raise enough to offset the Varane transfer. Wishful thinking to get all 4 of the books perhaps, but I’d be relatively confident we can get it done for at least the first 3.
Agree with you. And I hope you're right too because I am not convinced he will be a success with us.Convinced we are being played for a new contract. Been here too many times before with Real Madrid and Barca players.
Wrap him up this week.

For strikers yeahSounds like a headache
I prefer Maganelove that
That's from Miguel Delaney, so I wouldn't take it seriously.According to several papers Varane wants 400 k per week. Anybody who knows how reliable this is?
Marane?
I'd rather we didn't. He's declined, whether through mentality or just physically, but I can't see him being worth it as an upgrade anymore.
I was waiting to see if the Euros would galvanize him again, but it hasn't.
Every player is knackered after a long slog of a season. When has an international tournament really got the best out of all the top players.I'd rather we didn't. He's declined, whether through mentality or just physically, but I can't see him being worth it as an upgrade anymore.

I'm afraid you are estimating his abilities based on his achievements in the past, rather than his current self. Varane's last season at Madrid and this Euro both were bad. We used to burn our hands numerous times because we chased after "past-it" players, rather than the ones playing well at the moment. Some prime examples were Sanchez and Schweinsteiger.Every player is knackered after a long slog of a season. When has an international tournament really got the best out of all the top players.
He's top 3 in the world at CB. Huge upgrade over what we have in defence at moment.
