So if I've got it right it's The Telegraph sourcing The Express, who are sourcing Marca, who are sourcing The Daily Star?

Football journalism is so shit

I assume the intern gets put on putting foreign papers stories through google translate and pinching anything that might get clicks.

It's impossible that Madrid would let him go, let alone for 19 million. Pepe and Ramos have been rock solid under Ancelotti, that makes it's not so easy for Varane to get into the starting lineup but Pepe will be 32 next month. Varane's time will come soon and he knows it, he renewed not that long ago. He's a special talent, I think he will easily surpass the likes of Thiago Silva. Very rare to see such a big defender with such immense acceleration and pace yet he doesn't rely on physical attributes or aggressiveness at all but displays intelligence, great positioning and reading of the game.

He's not going anywhere he signed a new contract till 2020. Utter tosh rumours, same as the ones saying Cavani and Godin to Manchester United.

Varane for 19 mill? Never going to happen! I still think we should give Nastasic a look if there's a chance City are ready to sell him to us..

I just bought him for 17.5 mil. But that was in Fifa 15, so that does not count.

OT: I'd take him in a heartbeat. Excellent player and still so much potential to grow. But the only way we'll have him is if we send over big Dave, which is a no-go for me.

Ridiculous reporting from the papers. We wouldn't pay more then £9M for a young 3rd choice CB. :wenger:

Why are Chelsea also supposedly interested? Haven't they beat us to enough targets already? Have mercy please!!

Why wouldn't he come here? He even said he was about to sign for us in 2011 and that Fergie chose Jones instead.

He doesn't start much big games for Madrid when Pepe and Ramos are fit, if he wants to be an important player and start every game for arguably the biggest club in the world then I'm sure he would consider coming here if we put an offer to him.

It would be a dream signing but would take an enormous amount of money and a lot of luck. No reason for him to leave Real Madrid either.

*Money
*More playing time
He is that good, he will get that game time eventually at Madrid. He is young, years and years away from his peak, so he will nail down a spot at Real Madrid given time. And for money, he wouldn't be short of a buck at Madrid.

He could leave Madrid because he's going through now what he wanted to avoid at United when he turned us down.
Doesn't make sense that he's prepared to fight now

To think we bought the Cortina with a missing hub and fluffy dice when we could have gotten a Rolls Royce!

I sense a spite in this post. In such case, your intention is misguided.

It wasn't Jones over Varane. Zidane tempted him and Jones was signed a year earlier as other clubs, namely liverpool and arsenal, matched his release clause.

Yes I know that Zidane tempted him, but I'm going by what Varane himself said.

A player getting accolades far ahead of his performances so far in his career. He has looked a mixed bag in the few times I have seen him, good a few times and dodgy the others. I wonder how many times has his fan club actually watched him play full games, which haven't been a whole lot due to injuries and Pepe-Ramos being ahead of him in the Madrid pecking order.

He is a good talent with a whole lot to prove. Not a 'Great' defender as being mentioned on here. 20m-22m is the correct valuation for him. Whether Madrid are willing to let him go is another matter.

Thought the same about Di Maria and yet Madrid didn't meet his expecations for a better pay. This idea that Madrid will pay more than most is misguided. Apart from their superstars, the rest are not the biggest earners. Also the fact that Madrid always go after the latest toy in the market means that they could be stupid enough to sell Varane.

Thiago Silva is extremely over rated here. Barring one season, he was not even close to being the best defender.

Just had a thought. Its no secret Madrid want to bring through an academy product. Maybe they're leaning towards Nacho as the 3rd choice CB and see Varane as somebody they can get £20m+ for.

There seems to have been too many instances where Varane has been linked away for there not to be some substance to it. Not saying it will happen, I just have a feeling that he's available for the right price.

Jose might pip us to the signing if Varane was available.

I'd expect Jose to be favourite to get him, but I'm just putting forward that I feel he's more available than some might think.

However with the transfer strategy we now have, and the financial muscles we're flexing, we're capable of competing with anybody in the transfer market. As long as we can get back to competing for trophies quickly.

If that is the case, wouldn't Nacho be playing more than he has so far ?

I think they're happy with him as 3rd choice but right now its obviously Varane.

Sorry, I meant that they would be happy if he was 3rd choice.

Yes but it is very different from seeing Varane as a player they can sell. Tbh any player can be sold for the right price but I think knowing the talent that he is and how young he is, they will wanna keep him as much as possible. He just has to be patient because Ramos/Pepe works well for Ancelotti. IMHO, he will only leave if he wants to be a starter at another club.
Rumors are what they are, every player has them, sometimes it's even generated from the player's camp in order to improve his situation.

Usually I'd completely agree but its Real. Selling a top talent for flavour of the month is in their DNA.
And agree on the rumours, but if it is coming from the players camp, they're unhappy about something. Most likely playing time. And that's something he'd move clubs for.

Well footballers never are considering most in the top leagues make more in a week than the average Joes make in a year.

Well if it's to get more starts, we are the best team he could move to as he would automatically be our first choice defender - unless of course Jose is willing to drop Cahill.
