Hoping it’s not as serious as Varane seemed to think.

We will miss him regardless but if we can get him back for when the PL resumes post WC l will be happy at this point.

Wrap Martinez and Casemiro in cotton wool and we should have enough with Lindelof/Maguire deputising.

I have no knowledge of how that type of injury works, but if it was anything close to a tear of the hamstring (if possible) would he have been able to walk off without limping?

As others have said: If he is back around end of the WC I'd be more than happy. We should be able to cope in the few games before that.

Think he's class and been playing his best football for us most recently and hope the early diagnosis is correct but I would be looking for a new CB next year.He just can't be relied on.

I had partial tears of hamstring three time (twice right, once left). You can't walk without limping. Each time it happened it's in full sprint and it didn't look anything like Varanes injury. Leg is usually fully outstretched as that is when hamstring is under most stress. If it is hamstring, that's good, I've been told recovery time is one week per millimeter of tear.

edit: My last tear was 4 mm and it felt like my whole muscle exploded, I almost also burst into tears.

I guess, but who would know anything this early? He hasn’t been examined yet, from what I understood.

That would be absurd :D

It seems likely it’s a hamstring injury now given the sources reporting it which is great news. Muscle injury much preferable to ligaments etc

Absolutely. I thought it looked like a knee first, but the news about hamstrings are positive, if true.

Shout out to those adamant it was the knee for no reason at all. Typical drama-queening.

Timing is a bit iffy. We kind of wanted it to be a slightly longer injury so he’d 100% miss the World Cup (at least the start) and recover here.

I anticipate Deschamps will take him, not only is he their best defender he’s one of the few senior leaders left at the back after injuries to key players like Pogba and Kante.

In one of the last games I played a lad going for a ball with me snapped his hamstring. I heard the cluck sound as it went - he was in agony and left him wrecked for months

Good that it's not a long-term injury but the frequency of these injuries mean we should probably look towards signing another defender in the summer. One who can cover a couple of positions would make sense if possible.

WC break will help us but gutted for him as he will miss WC.

Hopefully its small injury

If it's hamstring tear, he could be back before world cup. As mentioned my last tear was 4 milimeters, which is about a month recovery (as my physio told me), and I was not able to walk without a limp. But it does feel terrible and very dramatic at the time.

Makes sense to move on Maguire and bring in Timber. I think this is what the club will do.

Timber is as short as Martinez isn’t he? I feel Martinez works so well with Varane partly due to Varane being so tall and good in the air. Two short CBs with average height FBs would be suicide

Great news, hopefully France don't take him and he can get fit for us

We need better cover cause he gets injured a lot, but cant see that happening given we have cover in Harry....
