Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Right, so it's manager's responsibility for picking majority players who haven't recovered fully from COVID to start today.
I know - why isn't he starting more 18 year olds with no Prem experience?! Shocking.

Also I saw you edited your post. Sure Tottenham did well vs Liverpool but they were playing a side who had 4 starters out. Not hard to see why they did so well

I like the vast majority of what he has said so far, simple, consise, calm and usually agree with what he sees as the problems.

There is no denying we havent been managed very well post Fergie by any manager. Ole did a defcent job, the second place finish was for me at least a lot to do with problems at the other clubs that season and how well we did away with no fans. Mourinho actually did remarkably well his first season but was always going to end the way it did........

But bar that one of the biggest mistakes all the managers made for me was in the transfer market, whether that was them or the board, who knows...but

Moyes bought absolutely dreadfully, vast majority of LVGs purchases were poor, Mourinho I thought did well in his first window then downhill and Ole failing to sign a single central midfielder and offload certain players this summer was absolutely huge in how piss poor we have been.

Lookign at Ragnicks history of indentifying young players, this gives me hope, but until a manager can come in and clear out not just the deadwood but several supposedly top players that simply are nowhere near consistent enough performance wise to be top players, we wont move forward with any manager

Liverpool without their 4 starters are still miles better than this Newcastle. Not hard to see the quality difference in that Liverpool and Newcastle.

Just watched his post match and the main thing he was saying was physicality and desire to win the duels. And when pressed on it other than control he said we needed to match their physicality but we didn't.
And needed to reduce unforced errors. Early days but I bet the results will be no better than ole to be honest very knee jerk I know, but yea happy to be proven wrong but don't think I will be.

Sorry this will end in tears. Playing 4-2-2-2 and players out of postion before you get a TEAM and the basics right is just a no-go. I see a professor playing out theories that only work in a well established team with players that fits the bill.
What I saw today was truly remarkabel bad. We where very lucky to play Newcastle.

Bryan Robson and Gary Pallister were saying pretty much the same on MUTV at half time of the Watford match, Ole's last game in charge.

The mighty Newcastle?

Apparently this Newcastle are so mighty that they are better than the below team.

We have players that weren’t even physically ready to play football under Jose, and have played for years with barely a semblance of coaching with Ole. This isn’t going to take a few weeks to sort out, and some players may even be incapable of doing their bit to turn it around at this point.

We will be in a battle for 6th spot before the penny drops with these players. Should have appointed a full time manager. Every other club who sacked their manager has but us. It's a joke.

Too early to judge anything yet, on the bright side he is only an interim manager. So long our board doesn't do the same mistake again and offer him a contract after 10 good games we should be fine.

He is certainly right about the physical and mental aspects of our team. But what can he realistically do about that

Of course he needs time as any manager would. Question will be if there is any hope for these players to actually start caring as much as managers and fans do. Looking at some players and how they play, it just don’t seem to be that way. We need players with carachter, desire and high football IQ.

Why aren’t we analysing every word he says in press conferences. Pre and post? He’s shocking

It takes some time for a coach to really get his ideas through... But you'd expect a lot more than that shite today. That was horrible after having 2 weeks to train something. Anything.

Why do I see the same people who defended Ole for 3 years now bashing Ralf after 4 games?

It's not like they have had two weeks of training, we are coming off the back of a covid crisis and trying to adapt to a style of play poles apart from our previously passive style. It will take time.

The damage this season has already been done.

It's a respiratory disease. Playing like that and making abject decisions or errant passes aren't an excuse. United have played worse every match since Ralf has taken over. Today was unacceptable. They all didn't get Covid, that's a fact. Being in protocol doesn't absolve you from making stupid ass decisions.
You may be knackered but make a pass!

Jesus Welt. Almost as if you think football players aren’t human.

“MAKE A PASS” -:lol::lol:

Next you’ll say…..

“NOW RUN!”

Not like the majority of them had COVID or anything

I want us to be moving to make space for the pass and moving in unison to press the guy with the ball. Barca/City model?....yes how hard is that it's not rocket science.
All I've heard is 1 route physical counter press bollocks.

From what Ralf said…."It's all about energy, physicality and who wins the second balls……”
This applies right across the team, from front to back.
Most of our forward and attacking players are woefully lacking in at least 2 of those 3 areas.
Worst, they’re clearly not cut out, or built for the physical and ball winning side.
Setting aside Ronaldo and Cavani, who should be viewed differently, as they have specific attributes that can be brought to the team and are effectively only temporary; Bruno, Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho are never going to meet those physical and defensive requirements.
You can’t just bolster up the central midfield and continue with so many fragile, lightweight players ahead of them.
I may be wrong, but Ralf might start weeding out some of the fan’s favourites.
Trouble is, we don’t have any replacements behind them.

I know it's only been three games but he's done nothing to convince my doubts about him. At least it's only six months but this gamble only works if it guarantees Ten Haag. Otherwise, I am at odds why we didn't go for Conte on an 18 month contract.

on to the next shiny object!

It’s never just the managers fault, and whatever way you want to spin it you can.

But it will be interesting to see how Ralf progresses from here on.

We all know what these players are like, if they take a few L’s then I’m sure most of the players will take the rest of the season off and wait for the next manager. For some it will be their 4th.

What the hell. So you think Liverpool without 4 of their first team starters had no effect on that result? I’m only referring to your argument that Tottenham had a covid outbreak and drew with Liverpool. I then point out Liverpool were without players due to an outbreak to which could play a part and you say it doesn’t matter as Liverpool are better then Newcastle? The logic is all over the place and I’m out.

I think covid had played a part. You don’t. Ok. Your opinion. All good

You can’t expect anything with these players. It is more hope instead of belief that we will win games. I think last 8 years shows that despite managers giving everything they are stuck with overrated players who are not good enough for winning titles on regular basics.

It happened before. We had Jose fan boys not give Ole any chance and now the trend is being continued by Ole fan boys

No you're wrong. Appointing someone in a hurry is what got us in this mess.

This season doesn't matter any more from a results point of view. Where we finish doesn't matter. It's now all about making the change and getting ready for the right man in the summer.

If Tottenham who had covid just like us could perform well against Liverpool missing 4 of their starters, why couldn't we do it against this Newcastle who have worse 11 than Liverpool missing 4 starters? You can't be in your right mind telling me that this Newcastle XI is better than Liverpool XI vs Spurs.

There's a large gap between winning titles and being outplayed by Newcastle. I just ask that we play like a competent team and are competitive which should be the bare minimum based on our spend.

Cool story bro. I mean That’s exactly what I said. Where is my “you won the internet”trophy…

Look how long it took Klopp to implement he’s style, I don’t think any manager could get these disjointed group of players to achieve anything. We are broken from the core. We are better off just selling the lot and starting again. It’s like trying to renovate a derelict building which would cost more then to just demolish and rebuild it!!!

Here's a question that the journos haven't seemed to ask Rangnick, yet. Does he have the humility to abandon his box system if it doesn't work in the PL?
Most of us want to give him and his system a chance, but at what point does it become too much of a liability by hurting our chance of playing European football, next year?

This is a difficult question to answer because all our players have been in a rudderless run of things since the start of this season.

On another topic, how is Rangnick dealing with our side that has the 2nd most players with 4 yellows (5)? Only Leeds has more than us (6). The two players Fred and McTominay are amongst the five that are probably worried about getting banned for a game. We've got two more gameweeks before they're out of danger. Maybe it would have been wiser to keep those two on the bench at the start of the Newcastle match.

They are cleared to play for 60 or 90 minutes. The weight of their passes, and accuracy of the passes were terrible today. Greenwood was playing as an 8/10 today, behind or side by side a Ronaldo or Rashford. Played one 10 in Bruno and 3 9s or forwards in Ronaldo, Greenwood, and Rashford, yet it wasn't a 4231.

And guess what...it showed. Zero control, no coherent press, nothing

He's only been in the job a few weeks and not done as much training as he would like. Yet there are people on here already throwing Ralf under the Bus. What would of these same people said when Fergie took over? At the end of the day things will not change overnight it takes times. Just get a grip and get behind the manager.

Isn't somebody supposed to say "Do we really need a new thread for this ?"

New have the RR Interim Manager thread.

I see a few people here talking about pressing. Did anyone see us press today ? I don't think I did.
