Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

No I definitely believe that the timing of his appointment affected the availability of Rangnicks favored options. My point is that these favored options shouldn't be described as established or high profile because it makes little sense. I bolded the high profile part for a reason and it is because I have seen an increased amount of people use that term without being able to qualify it or even use it in the context of Football.
I think it just means their resume and experience in the competitive leagues or bigger clubs. Rangnick has many of these protégé types across europe including the ones he just left at his previous club. It's nothing big.

Apologies if this has been posted before but a good little video if you want to find out more about the Boss!

Think he's there as a guy the players can talk to, sort things out for them in their personal and professional lives etc

The good cop to the managers bad cop so to speak.
Sounds like a very wishy washy job Description to me. A person who the players can talk to. The managers door im sure is always open.
Good cop to bad cop is complete guess work not on you I've heard it said before but come on. Really? And sorting out hotels and other admin planning day to day stuff doesn't require a football background does it. We don't know what he does cus he's a hanger on again in my opinion but I'd be shocked if we actually needed Mike Phelan

As a Manchester United fan I will judge him on what he does with us as over the years I was on another forum previously and the amount of posters that creamed themselves when we employed LVG still makes me laugh today and then there was the appointment of the ‘serial winner’ Jose had others claiming he would get us back to the top but instead had us playing shit football and regularly parking the bus.
I liked the first 30 mins in Ralf’s first game and really hope he can get this lot going and I am sure that will be the main goal for 21/22.

Yeah I agree too many false starts but I feel like LvG was a good thing. We were mostly in control in the big games and pretty good underlying stats (PPDA etc.), just had an inflated sense of where our squad should have been.

Not following him up with another one of the tiki taka types and trying to go back to the "Manchester United Way" was a big mistake. Having a consistent philosophy first on how we should play and then hiring the right managers is a lot easier than the Chelsea model of hiring / firing and hoping something sticks.

I think the club leadership understand that as well. Let's see, I continue to be very optimistic. For me, seeing good pressing, creating lots of chances, scoring lots of goals even if that means we concede a few cricket scores (like the other Ralph's teams do) is a good start for this season. A 3-4 loss in a big game is better than a 1-0 scrappy win hanging on for our dear lives sometimes.

We are being loaded with MLS coaches. Wondering if we are trying to emulate NewYork RedBulls.

Are NY Red Bulls any good?
If they are, I'd like to emulate them.
If they are crap, I wouldn't like to emulate them.
In saying that, I trust RR to do the right thing.

Definitely agree as first and foremost football should be entertaining.

We had a video analyst under LVG (Max Reckers) who was said to be very good at his job. But our players at the time didn't take too well to him, because he reportedly only picked out their flaws. Max Reckers is currently working with ten Hag at Ajax and doing really well by all accounts.

Too many of our players seem to be a little too comfortable at the club imo, and that needs to change. The below is the link to the Max Reckers story, about the players not being happy with him 'only highlighting their bad points'.

Bunch of fecking snowflakes. If they wanted to see good videos of them instead, they should just look their own highlight in youtube. It's the point of analyst. Analyse the thing you are shite at and to improve that stuff

But unfortunately, that's part of managing the millennial generation/Gen Z players. Comes with the territory. Too much negativity and the manager will be accused of being a bully or abusive.

That's the concern with Ralf -- will he be too out of touch with this current crop of players? He is closer to a Roy Keane sort of leadership -- direct and at times abrasive. The players could switch off after a while. Fergie would have been accused of all sorts of behaviour if he managed today.

Its no different to managing them at work. Ol Skool versus the touchy-feely approach.

Pep, Tuchel, Klopp and Conte are all direct and abrasive type of managers. And it works. If players cannot handle that they should not be playing at a top club.

Tuchel and Conti's ability to work at top clubs over an extended period of time is questionable. They both have not remained at any one club very long.

Don't know if anyone noticed this or maybe I'm overthinking things but in the latest United social media post ( I think ronaldo posted it as well) captioned winning team there are 11/12 players.

It was pretty common for posts like that before but most of the time the team was 5/6 players. I think it's Ralf focusing on full pitch things rather than what we used to see in the training videos of smaller pitch 5 v 5s.
This would be a welcome change as it helps build fitness and is more applicable to real game scenarios.

More importantly, what I inferred from that is that we had 20+ players available at training.

There are pundits still talking about a Ayew chance against CP. I have watched it a couple of times then and to me it looked offside. I can't see it now. Would that goal have stood or would it have been checked by VAR and given offside if he had put the ball in the net?

It was very tight. McTominay may have been playing him on.

But no manager at Chelsea has remained there very long.
But both have been very successful there.
Already signs at Tottenham that Conte is starting to have a positive effect.
They are elite coaches, as are Guardiola the Klopp.
I am hopeful that Rangnick will be able to transform the United squad with his new methods.

Yeah that was a welcome sight. A lot of key players in there as well.
Very interesting to see who he picks if the game goes ahead. Depends on how much training there’s actually been but he’ll start rating players himself now and forming his own opinions given he’s had a bit of time with them and sounds like, Pogba aside, he has a fully fit squad.

McT was playing him onside. I went to the effort of pausing the replay and taking a screenshot and uploading it. But I'm not allowed post images.

Who cares about this all honestly ? I swear only United fans talk about this. All it matter is what they achieve while they're at the club. How much they stayed doesn't matter.

I'll take a manager who manages us for one year winning league and CL double over a manager who stays 10 years winning nothing.

Players who can't handle criticism or pressure from their manager have no business playing at top level, period.

Well just look at Pep and Klopp. By the time Pep’s contract is up he’ll have been there 7/8 years. It’s not just preferring 10 years of nothing over one year of success when our two biggest rivals have had success/growth over multiple years.

That ain't why it failed
Correct. Ole openly stated that he wanted to do many things (make us outrun the opposition, score tap-ins, play swashbuckling football) but in three years never managed to teach the players anything that would lead to those things or make them fit enough to outfight the opposition, despite admitting that he didn't think tactics were more important than desire and wanting it more than the opposition. I mean, at the least you'd expect a former striker to be able to teach our strikers how to move inside the box to increase the chances of such easy goals.

Weirdly not excited at all about the new manager at the moment.

The long stretch without a game combined with that dire Norwich match contributed to that feeling - but mainly it’s just being jaded from all the change and false dawns of the past few years, coupled with the players farting out the usual sound bites of working hard, training hard, blah blah blah.

I’m hoping we absolutely smash Newcastle today and see some exciting footy to jolt me out of this feeling, it seems like so long since I properly enjoyed a United game.

This is my feeling and I was open to Ralph but far too many false dawns post SAF now.

Many of us underrate how really poor we have been technically since SAF retired,
Three years of clueless coaching must sure have a negative effective

The team cant even build swiftly from the back with triangular fast passing while under pressure, thats a tip of how poor we are.

It will take some time before ralf fundamentals will be absorbed by them.
Ralf is not the way
He came to show us the way

Obviously there's a reason for it but I couldnt grasp the advantage of 5v5 in training outside of it being more manageable. I often hear about how training cannot replace preseason matches. Well that's true especially if the training only consists of 5v5... why not make it 11vs11 instead, with some of the players being picked from the academy or the coaches joining in for a short match. It's much more realistic and should give a clear idea to players what happens when they play together as a complete team. Not a small team where Greenwood is defending a tiny goal from Matic scoring against it.

Relax guys!

We have a very good team with a very experienced interim manager now. Tuchel came in and transformed Chelsea and Conte did the same with Spurs. I have confidence that Rangnick will lead us to play exciting attacking football. Negative football like Moyes, LVG, Jose and Ole is just not in Rangnick's philosophy.

Yes, we were not convincing vs Norwich. But Rangnick already made clear that he needs to focus on defence first and foremost. After that, gradually develop the attacking side of the game.

He is just 2 or 3 games in and we need to be patient. There were signs that we were playing as a team now especially the defensive side of the game. We are hard to break down. The attacking will come once players have more confident.

Rangnick also on record stating that he needs to build both physical and mental side of the players. These things need time.

Did you expect performances under a new manager with a vastly different style of play to the coaches we've had to just take off like a plane?

5v5 has it's advantages. Everyone is more involved, has more time on the ball, no one can "switch off" as no one is ever far away from the action. To improve individual abilities that's a great thing.

11v11 only makes sense to coach a full formation, it's necessary to get a team going, but it's not very effective to improve each player.

Well said. Exactly my view as well.

This kind of comment is the worry for me, with the greatest of respect.

Since SAF things have been pretty bad so people, not saying you necessarily, want to see instant improvement. Something I felt was unlikely to happen with the timing of Oles sacking and the Xmas period etc.

It's a hard ask but we need to be patient.

I would rather see some gradual progress in our performances than some temporary new manager bounce. If we can show a little more control tonight like the first half vs Palace and create a few chances I'll be happy.
