Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

With all the murmurings of upheaval in coaching and playing staff, and the potential replacements being relatively unheralded due to the unavailability of 1st choice targets, I think many fans have not factored in the risk that this could all turn to shit really quickly.
Well you have it seems.

I think it's equally important to know who we can bring in that will be an upgrade, not just who should be hounded out.

There needs to be a balance between short and med-term objectives in the qualities of the coaches and players that we bring in.

I look forward to the January window but from what Rangnick has spoken about personnel availability, it does worry me slightly. Sounds like his hand is being forced.
I don't think it should be too hard to replace McKenna. He's been here far longer than he should have without any signs of him being as good as people rated him to be. Ole left so McKenna should leave. He's not some unknown quantity or someone that should be given more time, he's been involved with the team far longer than Ole. If he's only been here for a year or two then by all means, keep him but at this point we should know that this is the best he can do and if he wants to leave, let him. Keeping him due to fear of not getting someone better is a bit weird, it's not like he helped transform the team or anything. Had we replaced him with someone else, let's say Giggs or Fletcher, I don't think it would have made a lot of difference and that says a lot.

I'm not known to be a blind optimist.
Who is one though? It seems you're the opposite. Ralf said that as a precaution in the sense he doesnt know how will he get and in what circumstances. That doesnt mean it will all go downhill just cause Carrick and McKenna left. In any case Ralf got one assistant (that American guy) and possibly, hopefully he'll get one or 2 more, depending how many he needs if he needs any.

Who is Roddy Collins?

Another perspective from Demba Ba who has seen him at closer quarters. https://www.google.com/amp/s/inews....-man-utd-chelsea-newcastle-united-1350777/amp

Who to listen to? Difficult choice. The ex footballer who's worked closely with him or Roddy Collins?

Don't get me wrong. Rangnick might not work out but that won't be because he is a "spoofer"

Former League of Ireland Manager and brother of former WBO middleweight champion and alleged wife beater, Steve Collins.

I think we all need to appreciate the enormity of the job Rangnick has taken on and not expect miracles straight away.

The club was on a downward spiral with so many issues to look at deal with and resolve. So many players given false promises under the previous management, poorly coached, poorly motivated and lots of players just picking up huge wage packets and doing what they wanted to do knowing they would not be reprimanded.

Now we are seeing negative stories coming out, staff leaving, players wanting to jump ship(we have so many arrogant petulant cry babies in this team, i include CR7 and Bruno in that list)

I trust Ralf to build a team, not a group of individuals. Those with huge egos and neither the will nor desire to put the work in should get out of this club.

Yep, makes me laugh when I see posts suggesting that Ole has left us in a good shape squadwise. When you start analyzing and breaking it down to the details it’s anything but great. We’re about to undergo a massive overhaul.

So are the players (or what's left of them) actually training? Or is the club pretty much in full lockdown?

How did you conclude that?

By looking at our squad. Pogba, Martial, Lingard, VDB, Matic, Mata, Cavani will all leave in the upcoming windows. Ronaldo will be on his lasts legs come the summer (mid 38) and no more than an impact sub in pressing team, meaning he’s likely to leave as well as he won’t accept such status in the WC year. Many players that are not good enough or have huge question marks but have been pandered to like Rashfrod, McTomminay, AWB and even Shaw who was questioned by Ralf himself in the past. Also, as much as like Bruno, can he fit into the team from deeper positions where he needs to assert more control as his best form for us have come from being a second striker? Thus, we only have one proper midfielder in Fred in the whole club. There’s a lot of work to put it mildly.

All of the numbered players either are not playing or are not good enough or are old and most of them should leave anyway or should have left before. VDB leaving isnt a given also.
As for not good enough or question marks that's what we have manager for to see if they are good enough and can he fit them in his system. Bruno wont play in a deeper position anyway but as one of two number 10s. It is a big job but certainly not a massive overhaul and massive overhaul is the last thing we need anyway.

Out of all of these only Pogba needs a serious replacement. Outside of that we just need good enough squad players to make up the loss in numbers.

Makes me laugh when people start lowering expectations again to suit their agenda.

Matic needs a serious replacement as does Martial/Cavani. Lingard/DVB and Mata probably combine to require one replacement as well. So that's two central midfielders, an attacking option and a striker. Hopefully Amad/Pellestri/Hannibal can fill one or if we get really lucky 2 of those spots but it's still minimum 2 and very likely 3 players that need to come in to replace that lot.

0-5 OT drumming by Liverpool, City taking it easy for last twenty minutes of a 0-2 home loss... think we are already in the shit don't you?

Expectations hit the rock bottom when hired Ole and fans were lapping it up for 3 years. For the first time in the decade we have someone competent and in touch with modern game but you have to be deluded to expect immediate impact given the state of us.

I agree we need upgrades, and that's difficult at this time. It genuinely doesn't feel like Carrick and McKenna were hounded out. And without being malicious, I'm happy to see them go as I want to see Ralph build his vision. And for me that doesn't need or have to be instant. It will take time. In terms of players, I don't see them being hounded either, there's always noises about Pogba leaving/ Cavani I understand, Jesse I understand - in fact that's probably Oles fault much like Henderson. Martial I'm not sure - I'm not a fan so it doesn't bother me, maybe it simply is a good time for a fresh start at a new club.

Someone who wrote a scathing opinion piece to try to get a job, apparently.

Look, no one is expecting us to make up 14 points and overtake city this season. So I'm not sure what he meant about miracles. Ole was expected to challenge for the title with this squad, so imo the minimum should be top 4 right now. And if Chelsea form continues to slide, we might even catch them.

If football matches stop due to covid, do our players have to come back for training?

I just wonder if it does that it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world just because it might help ragnick get to know and train his players more.

We already needed Matic's replacement, we just weren't proactive about it and actually wasted money on VDB when we should have scouted and signed a DM. Lingard, VDB and Mata can be replaced by one player and that player could be Hannibal, these players barely contribute anything. But if we lose Martial and Cavani we will definitely need another striker so we will need to buy two first team players and then see how many from the plethora of promising youngsters we have can stake a claim for a squad role e.g it doesn't make sense to buy another RB when you have Dalot and Laird because surely one of them will take their chance.

Yeah a key of Fergies tenure was not buying expensive fullbacks and promoting from the youth or buying cheaper options. I do think we should do the same with Laird and Mengi looking quite promising. CDM and striker are the priorities now.

That’s how I see it too tbh, though Spurs getting Conte and few new players in January might change this perception. It won’t be a cakewalk.

Even if he really does this, do we really want to count on them ? Its not practical, we need to ease them slowly into the team.

That will depend on how many regulars depart.

If we are replacing an occasional player with youth then that may be manageable.

Rangnick doesn't strike me as a hunter of 100m primadonnas more of a 30-50m younger workhorse

I hope he's making the players work like mules in the training ground this past week.
