Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Ole literally came out and said Young is the club captain. It's right there on the official site, someone didn't make that decision for him.

And I said 4 years because Ole was here for 3, we are obviously not winning the League or CL this year so even if he'd remained he would have still needed next season to have anything to show for it which would have taken him to 4.5 years. So for Ole to recover from the horrors of Mourinho would have taken him 4.5 years.

I don't think you can say the squad is better when DDG, Shaw, Lindelof, Baily, Dalot, Fred, McTominay, Rashford, Greenwood, Mata, Pogba, Matic, Lingard, Martial are all part of the squad Ole inherited and those 14 players still to this day make up most of our matchday XI+Bench more often than not, its practically the same. Of the difference Cavani and Ronaldo might not even be here in 6 months, we had a better goals against record with Smalling than we do with Maguire, AWB has massive question marks over him and and VDB doesn't even play.

Oh nice, you can predict the future too. That's handy, maybe you can tell us when we will win the league next.

The squad is better, we have some real quality in the squad with Varance, Sancho, Ronaldo, Bruno, Greenwood etc.

Incredibly uninteresting. Who the feck is Roddy Collins?
Listen...I’m Irish...so I am uniquely positioned to confirm...that according to the latest census figures and the annual Drinkfeckarse survey...Roddy Collins is a fuking knob regardless of his nationality.

While we're all here - don't forget to vote for the RedCafe awards! The voting threads are here:

Part 1
Part 2

The voting template is at the start of each thread - but you don't need to vote in every category. If you don't want to spend much time on this, just vote for the ones you can think of right away and leave it at that. We'd basically just to love to get more votes and get results that are a bit more representative of the entire forum.

Thanks!

You know what was refreshing to see, we played so bad against Norwich and it was like us under Ole but you know Ole would of said the boys did well and the positivity was great etc. Ralf wasn’t happy and shouldn’t be. I feel he seen how bug his job is here and we look so disjointed

To be fair, in those circumstances, what Ole says to the press and what he may have said behind closed doors would likely be different. Management 101 really.
Ole was all about protecting his players in the media and he did that effectively to a certain extent. I think the players, as demonstrated this season, started to take advantage of that slightly.

Ralf is showing a firmer hand though. At the moment he's clearly not accepting much BS. He's being forthright/direct with the media and, importantly, the players.

We've seen this before though with LVG and Jose. My way or the highway is all well and good, and the players certainly need that pressure put upon them with regards to how disastrous the seasons been so far but eventually Ralph will have tone it down slightly, that would be made easier if his ideals/philosophy are finally starting to reveal themselves on the field of play.

Jose and LVG was different they went after players and slaughtered them while Ralf does it as a team. He is just saying what is true, like with Greenwood he said he’s not at the physical level he wants but he’s technical level is great etc. With Jose it was just negative instead of positive while saying they can improve.

All it says really is that Roddy Collins, whoever he is, doesnt believe in complex systems and tactics which would be entirely consistent with his lower league CV.
Ha! Roddy Collins calling Ralf a spoofer! Talk about pot and kettle!

I did not expect to click into this thread seeing a reference to Roddy fecking Collins . I can confirm as someone who has literally trained under him that his disapproval of Rangnick should be met with nothing but encouragement .

The point is the squad he inherited. Since the post I replied to specifically said SQUAD. So the players used and those not used against PSG is the squad Jose left behind and Ole inherited which we can see the majority of which is still here. Herrera and Darmian weren't signed by Jose so if you're saying they're shite then you're saying he inhertied shite also. Lukaku is the only one you can point at and say Jose's guy and Ole got rid of him.

4 years because Ole was here for 3 years with nothing won and we obviously aren't winning the league this year so he would have needed a minimum of 4+.

And yes, Ole made Young captain.

OLE SAYS YOUNG WILL BE NEW CLUB CAPTAIN
Sorry why are we debating young being captain?
Everywhere he’s been there’s been glowing reports of his behaviour and professionalism as well as helping young players. Why shouldn’t he have been captain?

Surely now with McKenna seemingly nailed on to go to Ipswich, he's likely to bring in another 1 or 2 people to his team... I cannot believe Mike Phelan has outlasted both McKenna and Carrick

Maybe because he doesn't do any coaching and do other stuff?

I'm not as bothered about McKenna and other assistant coaches as Goldbridge and some here are. This season now is all about setting the table for next season, and it seems much more likely than not that a new manager will be brought in, perhaps ten Hag, who will bring in his own stable of coaches. The existence or non-existence of McKenna will not make the difference between landing top four or not landing top four. Or winning the Champions League.

Whatever Ralf needs to do to settle his coaching staff for the remainder of the season is fine with me.

I wonder how he feels about this enforced break we’ve been on. Obviously not been able to train much but certainly time to talk to players and shove video down their dumb zombie passing no movement throats.

I think it was so clear to see that Ole was out of his depth here that everyone was and is pretty much an Ole inner or outer. Most people could see he was out of his depth and were ole-out. The rest were blinded by loyalty / happy thoughts and were ole-inners.

there couldn't be a middle ground because even the most reasonable of people would have seen that ole needed to go for the team to have a chance to become great again

Since past is prologue....

Can we define what a RalfIn and a RalfOut person are then?

I don't think you need to be a chef to criticise what's on the plate, at least when it comes to forum discussions. We're all having a bit of fun here anyway. But I would expect that a person who takes aim at Ralf in the media after just two games has something worthy to show, like to make it a bit more worthy maybe. This Roddy fella's biggest managerial triumph seems to have been getting Shamrock Rovers relegated.

Any of you UK based fans who want an insight in to Roddy Collins and see how much of a gobshite he is. Watch the Rod squad on YouTube. It's documentary about him when taking over as manager at Carlisle Utd. Give you a laugh at the crap he talks, big spoofer himself.

With all the murmurings of upheaval in coaching and playing staff, and the potential replacements being relatively unheralded due to the unavailability of 1st choice targets, I think many fans have not factored in the risk that this could all turn to shit really quickly.

I don't think the changes Rangnick will make is going to be worse than what we had under Ole. So it's at least going to be steps in the right directions. Maybe not leaps, sure.

I haven't - I think an upheaval of the coaching and playing staff is required. It makes sense that Carrick and McKenna should follow Ole out of the club. In terms of playing staff - I don't see an upheaval but time will tell. Nothing I've heard is concerning. Martial wants to leave? Depends on your view, but to me that's good. Pogba? Can't wait to see the back of him, never wanted him back here - Ole would probably be begging him to stay, the fact Ralph isn't is refreshing and exactly what we need. Cavani to Barca? I love Cavani, but it would have been great if we got him maybe 3-5 years ago, with Ronaldo coming back, and Aguero retiring it makes sense if Cavani is tempted by any offer by Barca. Lingard and Henderson to go? Makes sense - Ole clearly didn't have a plan whatsoever he kept them here as part of the boys club but if they need to leave for playing time, thats fine too.

So far I am over the moon with Rangnick.

I think it's equally important to know who we can bring in that will be an upgrade, not just who should be hounded out.

There needs to be a balance between short and med-term objectives in the qualities of the coaches and players that we bring in.

I look forward to the January window but from what Rangnick has spoken about personnel availability, it does worry me slightly. Sounds like his hand is being forced.
