Another factor is, will the new manager favour a 4222?
Ralf should move to a 433, ten hag or Pochettino will build on that

Rangnick and Klopp have different philosophy. To them, control is stopping the opposition from passing through your pressing zones.

i agree. We can’t afford another “rebuild”. Enough. I don’t get what we’re trying to do on the pitch. Not sure the players do either. We’re all over the place and we’re not able to build up play. Players are out of position. Bruno on the left? Why? Full backs seem lost with no winger in front of them. Our forwards look isolated in this formation. We have a good base to build on 433. On paper, we just need a proper DM to have a very good squad to deliver such a tactic. 4222? No
 
This formation clearly isn’t working! We’ve got the players to play a 4-3-3, make it work! Solskjær can beat Newcastle ffs and he does it by 4 goals, even Norwich we struggled, can’t create enough under this guy.
 
Feels like we're just playing it completely wrong. For some reasons the CDMs are constantly trying to break the lines, and the FBs aren't overlapping - so the CAMs are getting dragged out wide.

Very strange.
 
Trying to fit square pegs into round holes. Zero width, and no tracking back from Bruno and Rashford. Both keep coming in narrow.
 
And this is the guy who's gonna be advising the club after these 6 months are up, fecking hell we'll be relegated

Shite against Palace and Norwich and even worse here this system doesn’t suit the players one bit.

His system is supposed to be about control and counter pressing but all we do when on the ball is go long and lose it?

It’s been said to death at this point but we’ll never win a thing with McFred in midfield it’s bottom half PL standard at best.
 
I've noticed Dalot playing almost as a #10. Surely he's supposed to be keeping his width?

Bin this formation ASAP, we don't have the central players for it
 
It doesn't work. Why do we have to play to a system that doesn't suit our strengths?
 
I've been vocal in being completely against this formation. It doesn't suit our players one bit but he sticks with it. Bruno is our most important player from an attacking standpoint but he's wider in this formation and that reduces his impact drastically.

RR needs to find something else very quickly because this isn't it. Its all good talking a good game but that's all he's done so far, barring 30mins this has been no different from Ole.
 
Armchair experts are on full swing . They hardly had any quality time to even train let alone do anything else.

We have been horrible I don't disagree but we can't put that on any formation given where we are, now.

Yeah this is the worst part. For some reason the full backs the ones sitting on the inside.

They need to stay high and wide and it should Rashford/Bruno working those pockets
 
Don't understand why people were expecting anything different under this manager. When you play Maguire, Fred, McTominay and Rashford all the time, nothing will change.

Playing the same team Ole did except for two worse fullbacks. Can’t make it up.
 
Too many technically inconsistent players on the pitch at once, it's a mess.

Fullbacks underlaping isnt even the problem, its what they are doing when they do. Running into bodies and giving the ball away. It can be effective if the front two sprea wider ala Werner and Poulsen at RB Liepzig but this way its useless.

I tend to agree with this...you can see us trying to thread balls quickly and play through the lines quicker. The final ball has just been shite. It’s the attitude that is the problem. Getting outfought is not on the formation. Get Rashford off now and bring Sancho on.

Poor against Norwich and Palace as well though these are really shite teams we should be beating comfortably. I mean Newcastle have literally won 1 game all season and we’re making them look like a title challenging team it’s a disgrace
 
The whole problem is Ronaldo the Loafer. Regardless of formation, play system or pressing, we just cant play with one man less for everything but when we can finish in the box.

Social loafing describes the tendency of individuals to put forth less effort when they are part of a group. Because all members of the group are pooling their effort to achieve a common goal, each member of the group contributes less than they would if they were individually responsible.

Everybody knows we have system buildt around a loafer, and they take full advantage.

Nonsense, everyone is playing awful, and a big part of the problem is the formation. Players are not on the same wavelength and are constantly having to second guess themselves.
 
This 4222 just seems very easy to defend against for any opposition. All our players are in the middle. You just have to crowd the middle and you’ve stopped us. It’s making it easy for the opposition.

Yeah zero training sessions against Palace and 2 days against Norwich.

Today is probably our first match after some sort of training but again we have been down with Covid as well.
 
The system needs to go and never come back - with this squad anyway.

Doesn't suit us at all, we're all over the shop. Bruno and Rashford as hybrid 10's/wingers?? :confused:

Is 4-3-3 too much to ask for?

Exactly. I see some forward one touch passing , quick passing to forwards, Ronaldo making runs. Fred has been horrible which means we couldn't recycle the ball.
 
I don't care about the formation that much. It shouldn't make a big difference in how a team plays, the general passing ideas and how "smooth" it looks. It's up to Rangnick to improve that, and if he can't then he'll leave in the summer and be replaced with somebody who can. But this first half was inexcusably terrible.
