He's already playing in the Europa League, mate.

That's what most Liverpool fans are doing, right? Oh right you already said that. ;)

Don't pretend you all didn't pass wind a bit when I mentioned his name just now, even in partial jest. :D

£200k per week? Thats bloody insane.

I don't mean from a 'thats too much money to earn' perspective, that ship has long since sailed, but hes going there on more money than half the squad, and whilst he has a lot of potential, he is not the finished article and nowhere near one of their best players. That is just bound to cause unrest in the camp, plus, how do they negotiate with someone like Pogba from that? He could rightly suggest £350k a week is a realistic salary in comparison to Sterling.
That is just piss poor management as far as I can see, throwing money at it in desperation.

I'm happy with the signing, some much needed pace, directness and youth. The price obviously includes the young and English tax (see Luke Shaw) but it's a position that needed to be filled. We are a top central midfielder away from a really good summer, and anything else is a bonus.

FFP is basically dead in the water so City dont really need to give a shit about paltry things like wages and money.

I wouldn't speak too soon. After all we spent quite a bit more on Di Maria and he had a shite first season to be frank. If sterling has a good season and due to his age, we are in no position to call this a massive overpayment.

NO....

:nervous:

Overpriced for now, but if develops into one of the best players in the world like he should he will be worth every single penny.

That 200k/week tho... He'll probably ask for half a mill when he's 24/25 and he must renew.

Sterling is quite underrated in here I think. Not sure if it's because he is/was a Liverpool player of if it's because he's English.

That'll soon change when he starts performing well at City, which he will.
I think it's more to do with the fact that he hasn't really done anything yet to merit such a high fee/wages, and I don't think anyone is questioning his potential but for me the transfer market really has gone mad after this one!

Best English talent at the moment. £50m is what you have to pay these days. He could potentially be their Rooney in terms of marketing value. I think he'll have a very good first season.

Just to offer a differing opinion, wages aside, is this deal that far off the deal that brought Rooney to United? £49m in 2015 as opposed to £30m in 2004 for one of the world's best youngsters.

City fans acting like they think this isnt a ridiculous deal

Of course it's a bargain for City. They didn't even earn the money. There's a difference when you've earnt it.

Won't be long before they'll be able to fill the Etihad; only a few thousand more signings needed.

I don't see a big difference. The £50m release clause helped to push the price up I would assume as well.

This is how it will play out:

Sterling will spend the majority of his first season on the bench.

In his second season he will be loaned out to a mid-table team like West Brom or Swansea.

In his third season he will be loaned out to the above team that didn't loan him in that season.

He'll be sold to Newcastle or Hull or someone for a record club fee, having achieved nothing but a nest egg to retire on.

Big loss but big fee.

If we invest it wisely i.e. not on Benteke I'll be happy. But we'll squander it on Benteke.

Overpriced, clearly but a very good signing for City imo.

Spot on although if he follows Rooney or Rio's performance levels in their careers it will end up looking like a bargain.

City fans will think it's just jealously, but i'm not sold on that deal at all.

£50'000'000 is too much for a player who is still basically just potential.

They might get ten great years from him, in which he'll have been worth every penny.

But i'm not certain yet that he's going to be a top, top player over the long term.

Christ on a bike, transfer fees have gone mental in the last few years. Good player though. I hope this means City dont get Pogba, and i hope Liverpool spunk it all on useless replacements.

What a bunch of complete mugs. Ridiculous price for a player that's actually not that good.

£50,000,000 for a player that's not even in the top 20 in the world.

Why City? Surely he can do better then them.

Hes a tit, after money, and lots of it. City can offer that AND he can get into their team from day one. No one else capable of paying those wages have the lack of competition for his position.

And, although I said the wages were insane, and they are, fair dos to his agent. The guy may be a dick, but his 20 year old client is now on £10 million a year. He got the result.
