Liverpool v City will be fun to watch now. He deserves all the abuse he will get at anfield.

Still pretty hilarious that Liverpool have lost Suarez, Stering (soon) and Gerrard since their near miss in 13/14.

Edit: Not to mention that Sturridge has become a total crock. Those 4 were arguably their most important players 'that' season.

For Liverpool fans this must be like getting a £250,000 voucher for your sports car and then realising it's only valid at Peugeot, Renault, Volvo and Vauxhall dealerships.

Just to offer a differing opinion, wages aside, is this deal that far off the deal that brought Rooney to United? £49m in 2015 as opposed to £30m in 2004 for one of the world's best youngsters.
Rooney had proved himself already in a major tournament at 18. Sterling hasn't done anything yet. Whether he does or not remains to be seen!

Will he count as homegrown for them? That's a big priority in their buying this summer so that could be an incentive to pay more.

I hope we at least put in a bid, if only to complicate the negotiations.

I think it's more to do with the fact that he hasn't really done anything yet to merit such a high fee/wages, and I don't think anyone is questioning his potential but for me the transfer market really has gone mad after this one!

I think it's the right price to be honest. Fees have been getting bigger consistently for years and years it shouldn't surprise people anymore. Rooney cost us 25m 11 years ago and he'd achieved about as much as Sterling had.

1. Only reports that he's going to earn £200k a week.
2. Milner's exit would have freed up about 70% of whatever Sterling is earning.
3. City's wages focus heavily on bonuses, there's no chance Sterling is picking up £200k a week just for turning up for training.

Tony Fernandes must be doing a jig in his office right now.

The top earners at that club will be asking for silly wages after this.

He'll play. Even they'll feel pressure to play a kid after this. I think he's going to develop into a diamond if he gets over the pressure this has caused.

Sterling was good at the World Cup. Not as successful as Rooney's Euro 2004 campaign in terms of goals, but then Sterling isn't a striker and England had a much better team in 2004.

John Alridge "Jordan Ibe has more potential anyway" (on sky sports news) it's already begun haha

That's a bit harsh on Sterling but potentially it will give Ibe more opportunities and could see him develop into a really good player.

No baggage with him either, his mum acts as his agent!

I don't think the price is outrageous.
It is, but it isn't enough to deserve all the green smiley's.

Having said that, if he follows the career path of our Rooney, he'll be worth every penny City paid for him.

Rooney was having much more impact on the field for both club and country at the age of 18 (Euro 2004 he was 18 and England's best player at a major tournament) Sterling had sone nothing apart from have one good season thriving round a world class Suarez like the rest of the team were doing. Surprise surprise Suarez leaves and Liverpool struggle, Sterling was no where near the same player last season.

I hope next time some club tries to rip off a teenager they remember this. £50 million is useless if spent on 2 average players instead of keeping one good one. This is because you can only play a maximum of 11 players at any one time, so you should try to have good ones. It's not that complicated.

Liverpool should sack Rogers not for being a bad coach but for his inability to capture or retain top talent. Anyone who saw the way he spoke to his players in that documentary could see straight away that there was a problem. He's like a bullying PE teacher. Absurd when Klopp is a phone call away.

Fair play to Pool, they've pulled City's pants down here. £49M for Sterling?!:D

Rooney's general play was excellent and offered much more than just goals. I was watching that tournament and thinking he's awesome I hope United sign him. Sterling not so much.

Very similar to our Rooney purchase, and given football inflation, probably about the right price given his potential and English tax.

Im just not sure his potential is as much a certainty of maturing as Rooney was.

Comparisons with the Rooney transfer are probably fair, and if anything Sterling has more experience, having already played in a world cup finals and the champions league.

But when Rooney signed for United, he had scored 9 goals in 17 games for England (as opposed to Sterling's 1 in 17, albeit from a different position); was two years younger; and had not only played in a major tournament, but was arguably the *best player* in it until his injury against Portugal (as opposed to Sterling, who had one good game against Italy).

Rooney also 'only' cost £27'000'000, which roughly translated into today's money, is £38'000'000.

So I still think the Rooney transfer, while a risk - he could've imploded like Gascoigne - was better value given the circumstances, and less of a risk than the Sterling transfer is.

Yeah, pretty much. Honestly, if Sterling can progress at City his price will be a bargain.

Paying 200k p/w while he is progressing is a bargain? What when he reach certain level, you think he will jump 30k more from those 200k?You gonna be lucky if he does not demand 300/350. Dont take me wrong, dont want to sound bitter but in general paying Sterling 200k p/w is one of those "crossing line" moments.
