Raheem Sterling | Signs for Man City for £49,000,000

Out of the 3 big names linked with City this transfer season, Sterling, KdB and Pogba, Sterling is the most likely one they will get. With other 2 they have competition from European big clubs. So, Liverpool are doing it right and holding on for more time as City will eventually pay 50 or closer to that if they find themselves without a big signing for long. The risk is, if City somehow land a big name/talented player from elsewhere in Sterling's position, Liverpool will be left with unhappy player in dressing room and Sterling is not like Suarez that once on pitch he will give everything. He looked half-arsed lot of times last season and may do so again. Next summer he can buy out the contract which will mean Liverpool missing out on big money.
I think at some stage this transfer window compromise will be reached and City will have to pay upwards of 40 for sure.

They have very little chance of getting Pogba IMO as long as Barcelona show interest. De Bruyne is a possibility.

People with money normally have it because they use it wisely. There must come a point when City start thinking you're asking too much and just become willing to wait it out, knowing that keeping Sterling at Liverpool isn't really an option and that Liverpool will probably be willing to sell at a lower price later in the window. It's not about giving you a problem, more about them getting a better deal.

Sterling isn't worth anything close to £50m.
Oh that is most certainly NOT the case - maybe you don't know but I live in Shanghai and seeing foolish flaunting and spending of insane amounts of money daily ;)
City have already displayed a cavalier attitude for transfers .. maybe this year will be different but usually City just seem willing to pay whatever it takes to get their man.

Instead of forcing a move this summer he should have played on, bought out his contract and then moved to another club. At least that way he wouldn't come across as a complete arsehole .
City aren't the only club that need a winger. Both Chelsea and united need a wide right player. If he wasn't a liverpool player we would be all over this shit. Funny thing is that someone like griezmann whose a much better player would cost significantly less.

Read somewhere that KdB agent confirming he is talking with Bayern and PSG. If that's the case, one feels de Bryune will prefer them to City.

I actually would love it if Liverpool kept him, would make for a hilarious circus next season

City should tell Pool to piss off wanted £50m and leave them with a massive problem. They will be in all kinds of trouble if they don't sell reheem, he'll be a poison in the dressing room and I can't see too many other clubs in line for his signature. If City were cute about this they'd get him for under £40m.

Like Arsenal told us to fck off with anything more than 40m for Suarez and left us with that 'mess' in a World Cup year. Honestly do some of you actually follow football and have a memory longer than a goldfish? :wenger:

Did Suarez miss training sessions after the bid was rejected? Was there this much bad blood between the player and the club/manager? Did Suarez sign a new contract soon after that?

If you answer these questions honesty, then you will know the two situations are completely different.

This is a different situation. Suarez had clubs queuing up for his services and wasn't pushing for a transfer to the same extent Sterling is now.

Sterling is showing utter disresepct to the club, something that will alienate him from fans and colleague alike. His position at the club is becoming untenable and currently City are the only interested club. From that point of you the longer this drags on the better deal I can see City getting.

Don't get me wrong I think what Sterling is doing is disgusting.

Yep this for sure. In my opinion, LFC wasting their energy dragging this out and possibly losing out on what City is currently offering. Sterling is not Suarez - I could be wrong but I doubt he'll be dragging City along to a possible PL title. I'd be bloody happy to take the money and send him and his agent to City so they can become their problem.

Sterling is CURRENTLY in training. Sterling WILL be jetting off to preseason. There is no bad blood between Sterling and Rodgers, it's just an Aidy Ward trick.

There's not even that much bad blood with us fans either, we know he's being played like Berahino was. The latter getting his head sorted. Suarez signed a new contract so there would be a fixed release clause. Sterling will jump at the same. Where are the differences?

Really:confused:
Don't shout at me but I thought it was pretty obvious he dislikes Rogers.

So you think everything is hunky dory between the club and player after the mud slinging match they had? Did Suarez or his agent give any interview basically trashing the club or the manager?

ARRGGGHHH!! :)

I think the supposed bad blood is just posturing. Understandable when trying all the tricks in the book.

Yes. Suarez said Rodgers went back on his promise to let him leave. He was sent to train on his own. Then he apologized and rejoined the squad.

If you research Sterling's interviews, you'll see that he had nothing but public love for Rodgers until he decided to leave since when he's been twisting the story every which way imaginable. As far as I can tell, his latest argument is that he wants to leave because he can't play for Rodgers because Rodgers won't let him leave.

I believe that everything that's happening in public is all part of a negotiation. City are prompting Ward and Sterling, and Ward is briefing his mates in the press. While someone at LFC is doing exactly the same. It's all about making a deal, with one very important rider. LFC are determined not to be seen as mugs and they have a price in mind that they believe will give them that.

I don't think Sterling will ever play for Liverpool again unless he fires his agent and absolutely grovels - which he won't because his head is too far up his own arse for him ever to believe he's been wrong in even the slightest way. I also believe we will sell him for a minimum of 44M but without any 'add-ons' factored into that. But I also believe that if the owners don't get their price, they are prepared to let him rot in the reserves to make a statement, set an example, and all those other clichés.

Not only that but Delph has now effectively turned City down. Which practically means City are fecked with their English quota (Guidetti also joined Celta Vigo). There's only one club in a right mess right now and City need to get their finger out if they want to be ready for the start of the season. All they've done since winning the league is regress, despite not losing any star players (at least Liverpool lost Suarez for an excuse).

Thanks :) Anyway Sterling won't be signing for City. I think we can all agree on that.

I know it sounds shocking but then again I bet they thought Delph would sign for them :) Everyone knows that they only want to sign English players because they have to. If that requirement wasn't there, would they have gone for Delph? Don't think so. Just wait and see. I would think he's more likely to stay at Pool then join city. I'm sure United are still interested but you'll see even pool fans backing off their 'hate' if they thought he would play for them next season. Blame will be palmed off to the agent

Don't quite think that Suarez acted as badly as Sterling has somehow. But I think you know that.

And you at least knew Suarez was a top quality player, who would then have to really play well to get his move.

Sterling had a bit of a sulky season anyway, and if you keep him you won't be able to rely on him at all. Especially after the won't play for Rodgers again business, and the general scuffles with the Liverpool Mafia in the media!

Has been an uninspiring summer for you boys, average signings, and best player causing all manner of nonsense.

I know City have home grown requirements to conform to, but if I was them, I wouldn't bother trying to sign Sterling anymore.

I understand that Sterling is not going on the Liverpool tour and that negotiations with City are ongoing.

@TonyBarretTimes: Raheem Sterling will not travel to the Far East with Liverpool after Manchester City entered into formal negotiations to sign the winger.

Supposedly £45m plus add on's

About £10m-£15m too much but City won't care about the fee. Good signing for City anyway.

Sterling did report for training this morning. He's been withdrawn from the squad by Liverpool as a deal with City edges closer.

Second year in a row when Liverpool are having to sell a player which they didn't want to. Gotta hurt.

The little fecker will get his move, I can really see his career tailing off, say what you want about Liverpool but there probably the perfect club for where he is now, lower expectations and doesn't have to worry about a world class replacement coming in each summer if he doesn't perform.

At City if he doesn't hit the group running he'll spend most his time on the bench. If he was dead set on moving he should have gone abroad, somewhere like Juve, PSG, Athletico etc.

At least it's getting sorted early, plenty of time for us to waste the money.....erm I mean invest it wisely!

Anyway a massive profit on what we bought him for, despite the sell on to QPR.

Reports, rumours of a staggering salary for him, never about the money though Raheem was it...?

They got the amount the stuck their guns to, at least. I think he's a top talent, but he'll need to stay grounded once he gets to City. It's hardly a place for nurturing young talent, but I'm sure he's good enough to fulfill most of his potential.

Take a moment to soak in the fact that Fabregas joined Chelsea for 28m, and Sterling will join City for more than 40m. Amazing being English does for a players value.

How big a cut will QPR get? I'm thinking about all those washed up has beens that want to join the pre-retirement thingy they've got going on down there.

I realise he's viewed as a money grabbing scum bag but I really can't help but sympathise with his situation.

He told Liverpool he didn't want to talk about a contract until the season was over and he wanted to concentrate on playing football. There was no panic as he still has 2 years to run on his current deal. Despite this, they made him an offer and he said again that he wouldn't sign anything til the season is over. They took this badly and leaked to the press that he had rejected a very good offer in the hope it would put pressure on him to sign. It didn't. The situation escalated and all of a sudden all the papers and social media is discussing him rejecting a contract offer, something that should have been kept private between the club and himself.

So instead of letting it lie until the summer and sorting it out then, every ex Liverpool player and his dog come out in the media and blast Sterling for being greedy, Rodgers talks about it publicly at every given chance as does Gerrard. Sterling, clearly pissed off and ill advised, does his interview to clear up the situation and all this does is escalate things further. More ex players come out and criticise him in the most emotionally and absurdly over the top ways you can imagine and all of a sudden he's isolated, booed by his own fans and painted as a stupid greedy kid because he didn't want to discuss a contract while the season was still going and he wasn't going to be bullied into doing so via the press.

Liverpool brought this situation on themselves. They can't help but get over emotional and over the top about shit like this and air their dirty laundry in public. That's their problem, they're losing a top prospect, a potentially special player and as usual they'll use the money bags that star earns them to bloat their squad with average shite.

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City. With a host of individual honours such as Teen Choice Haircut of the Year, the young England lion takes his place amongst the ranks of Liverpool nearly-legends who were too bloody good for the club.

Raheem: "I'm very pleased to be joining this week's Biggest Club in the World™. I look forward to the club winning many trophies; or, failing that, buying them." "And I'm looking forward to buying a big f*ck-off yacht made of diamonds," said Raheem's agent Burt Asbo.

FSG owner John Henry spoke to us via the wonders of transatlantic telephony while lighting a 6-foot-long cigar to celebrate Raheem's departure to pastures new and successful: "This remarkable sale is a further example of our commitment to selling our best players and then using the money to buy any old shit. With the new Lego stadium due to be finished in season 3069, Liverpool customers can look back on a bright future. Rest assured, we'll be looking to invest heavily into flogging this pile of crap club ASAP. Is this thing still on? Whaddya mean 'It's a telephone'? I ordered a microphone. Dumbasses everywhere..."

I agree with this. Once I paid attention to this I came to the same conclusion you have here. The only thing I'm not as sure about is whether he will become a special player later on. However, as much as I hate to say it :D Liverpool have done well to get 45M for this kid. Unbelievable that someone who hasn't achieved anything yet, and might not fulfil his potential, is going for this fee.
