Wouldn't be the worst sale to make given how much of his game he must sort out before taking the next level. The talent is undoubtedly there but why would we be interested after making a big investment in Depay? While also having Di Maria and Januzaj in the ranks?

It's never gonna happen anyway, but at least we can have some fun at Liverpool's expense during these bullshit rumours.

Mate you give us £50m for him I'll drive him to Old Trafford myself. :)

If you were selling him and even if we did offer more than anyone else, you still wouldn't sell to us, so think that £50 million will be used elsewhere. As much as i would love this to go ahead!

Indeed. It's all good having a laugh about it and stuff, but we wouldn't sell him to United. Ever.

I think he'll end up stuck at Liverpool because the only clubs possibly willing to pay the fee/wages are British clubs and the dippers don't want to sell here.

But there will come a point where they'll just get whatever a tribunal decide he's worth & he can go where he pleases.
Lad isn't one of their own & they'd be best off selling to the highest bidder this summer! He's made it clear he is going to leave, so why do people get so hung up about who they sell to?

I keep misinterpreting the thread title. Has he been asked to leave Liverpool, or has he asked to leave Liverpool? (Not that it makes much difference).

If this is true (which it isn't) i like the idea of low balling the offer to keep the price down. Hopefully other teams will play along and Liverpool won't get much over 30 for him.

I'd have him here, not going to lie, really rate him. Has all the necessary attributes to make it as a world-class winger in the future. His attitude however, leaves much to be desired.

I did not make this.

Why has no one posted this

Raheem Sterling is open to a move to Manchester United, although the player is concerned how the transfer would be received given the fierce rivalry between the clubs.

The Liverpool winger is aware of United’s interest and would be keen to explore joining and working under Louis van Gaal. Although relations between Liverpool and United are cordial the competition between English football’s two most successful clubs and the enmity between their supporters mean no footballer has moved between them since 1964. Then, Phil Chisnall was transferred from Old Trafford to Anfield. Seventy-seven years have passed since a player has gone the other way, Allenby Chilton joining United from Liverpool in 1938.

Van Gaal is an admirer of Sterling’s pace and willingness to try and to beat opponents and break a game open. Van Gaal’s The manager’s preferred formation is 4-3-3 and Sterling has shown he can play in any position across the front, and as a No10. Two seasons ago Brendan Rodgers positioned him there as a No10 against David Moyes’s United in the league fixture at Old Trafford and Sterling proved a revelation. This flexibility is another attraction for Van Gaal, and the Dutchman is also keen to work with young players who possess immense potential he can develop, as Sterling does.

If United were to firm up their interest by making a formal bid it would test the resolve of Liverpool as selling one of the few A-list players at the club to their greatest rival would be ill-received by fans. Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, has insisted that Sterling will still be at Anfield after the summer transfer window closes. Any offer from United may start a bidding war, with Manchester City and Real Madrid also admirers of Sterling. As the player is intent on leaving, Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owner, may decide a sale is the most pragmatic solution. From this perspective a United offer would be welcome as it would help drive up the price.

Sterling has turned down a £100,000-a-week offer from Liverpool, stating he wants to depart and play for a club that can match his trophy-winning ambition. United are back in the Champions League next season and Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, has stated the club must challenge on all fronts. United could also afford to offer Sterling a wage in the region of £140,000 a week. On 1 August United’s world record £750m, 10-year kit deal with Adidas starts.

Why are people calling him overrated? He's one of the best youngers in the game right now. It's the price that's the crazy part, but he himself isn't overrated. That's just modern football fees coupled with him being the next big English thing causing such a steep fee.

He's right to be concerned. Let's just say this generation of English players is still in need of a hate figure or two.
Last generation had Cole, Rooney and Terry. He's already disliked. This would cement it nicely.

Probably because it looks like a load of nonsense. The writer hasn't even bothered to make up 'sources close to the player' or anything, nothing at all to support the headline.
Yeah Jamie Jackson is a terrible reporter. Classic click bait and I fell for it!

Would be excellent but Jackson knows feck all and his agent seems, no, is the type to talk shit to drum up hype.

Wouldn't surprise me if Liverpool had leaked it somehow so him leaving to anyone else doesn't look so bad, plus scouser will hate him more if they think he'd consider it

Very good young player with room for improvement, but there is no fecking way that he is coming directly to United from Liverpool. Only way that Sterling will come to United is if he moves to a team abroad and then comes back to England. Even if he goes to another English club from Liverpool, don't see a United future for him.

Had a frustrating season, but he was outstanding up front at Anfield against Chelsea. Great link-up and great use of his body to roll defenders and shield the ball.

I actually think he's a mature player, for his age. Especially being a flair player. His play with his back to goal, and the little one-twos and lay-offs are brilliant. He'd do more for City's team than Chelsea's or Arsenal's, but they remain a dodgy choice for a young English player.

One has to wonder what would happen if we offer 10M more than anyone else, would the americans settle for less money just to avoid upsetting the fans?

For the love of all that is holy, no! He's played a couple of seasons and is nothing more than a promising raw talent. Should be earning less than half of that. Makes me sick.

surely Liverpool wouldn't leak that, its just too stupid even for them. If he isn't considering it and they're saying it to get the fans onside then its only going to drive him further away from wanting to play for the club. Which means less money they'll end up receiving as the unhappier he is his value will clearly lesson. Surely the best thing to do is shut up and say nothing, then either spend the money you expect for him then sell or sign your players, keep him around for pre season play him and hope he changes his mind and if he doesn't sell him in August

I agree a fantastic talent but its crazy how anything other than the elite are played over £100,000 for me

This would be great craíc if it were to happen.

I was in the Nou Camp a while back, shortly after Neymar signed. They had enormous images of him everywhere. As in all along the side of the stadium, at the gates, all over the club shop, on the overhead walkway thing, everywhere.

When are Liverpool playing at Old Trafford next year?
