Not quite sure why people think Sterling would play more at Arsenal than City. Arsenal are chock full of wide players, or at least people who can play wide, whereas at City he'd be competing with Navas who is fast but rubbish. Either of City or Chelsea would make a lot of sense to me, although I'd prefer him to come here, if only to watch Carragher's head melt.

Agree with this, Arse are chock full of midfielders and players who can play wide. Doubt I'd want him here for the money we'd have to pay, and I doubt he'd excel in LVG's system. Would love to see the Carragher/LFC/RAWK meltdown if we did sign him though.

What amuses me is Brendan "we'll keep this in house" Rodgers insistence on flapping his dried out lips at every opportunity about this. He cannot seem to hold his silence on anything.

The 1st time I was devastated.

2nd time I did want him to go as I was fed up of it by then - and I do believe if SAF had not retired, he would have been sold.
The reports about him asking for the 2nd transfer are conflicted at best. Fergie said he'd asked for a transfer but the fact that he stayed when Fergie left points to a personal dispute between the two rather than Rooney desperately wanting out of the club.

They had a difficult relationship at times so it's difficult to judge without knowing the full facts and Fergie's stature means that he'll always get benefit of the doubt. Doesn't automatically mean Fergie's opinion was either right or trustworthy though.

Very little chance we will buy him for cash in my opinion. If he comes to Arsenal, it will be a swap deal for Theo Walcott. I know; swap deals are all media fabrications that don't actually happen in reality but this one, I feel, is different.

Both players have reason to leave (Theo is a Liverpool fan, isn't starting regularly and Sterling wants to go back to London and play for a better team).
Both players are in similar contract situations.
Both players suit the tactics of the other teams better.

Now, I don't want to give Liverpool a goal scorer and that is what Theo would be for them but Sterling would improve us so it's worth the hassle.

I still think he will likely end up at one of the oil clubs.

@The Purist How is Theo a goal scorer? He's avaraged 1 goal in 5 games in all his appearances for Arsenal. I've never rated him highly, but I guess that's mainly because he's been getting injured for the most part of the seasons.

Since 2010 he's scored a goal every 209 minutes in the PL which is pretty good for a winger. It's not far off a goal every other game which is what most good strikers aim for. Giroud scores a goal every 177 minutes for example.

Think there was a period when Walcott played as a striker though, no? Injuries to Arse's strikers and him complaining that he wants to play as a forward during his contract talks and so on, so I guess that the numbers are a bit altered (no idea how many goals he's scored as a striker though).

According to the mail they're wanting 60m

They couldn't get 60m for suarez how the hell do they think they could get that for Sterling?

They'd be lucky to get above 35. if they get 40 they should be laughing their socks off

I imagine the 20% sell on clause is driving the price up
They would only get 40m from a 50m sale so it's unsurprising they want to talk the price up.
I remember him being linked with Chelsea around xmas time and he strikes me as a player Jose could mould into a top wide forward so hopefully he does not end up there

Yes coming up to renewing his contract last time he was linked with Liverpool and was briefing via his agent He wanted to be a striker
Arsenal played him there and he scored 10 in 10 if I remember correctly, renewed his contract, got injured and got stuck back on the wing.

He isn't worth anywhere near 50 million, nowhere near it.

Its a sign football has gone over the brink if he sells for that kind of money

Was Shaw worth 30?
Similar age... Both good prospects but not the finished article... English premium and is it unrealistic for a good winger to cost around double of a good fullback? Not saying that I think it represents value... Just that it seems to be the price these days

Sterling's one of Liverpool's substitutes today, surprisingly.

Agreed, if shaw cost 30m pounds then the likes of kane/sterling have to be hovering around 40-50m. prices have gone mad, but thats football these days. its no co-incidence that the sides around europe who built the spines of their team gradually over the past 4/5 years are currently the top teams, its going to cost a fortune buying the premium talents now.

Heh yeah, remember he said Mignolet was dropped indefinitely? Sure, circumstances dictated him coming back but he was rather vocal in his decision

This is awkward....

Sterling should just shut up and keep playing football and end up with Carra in the sky studio with 0 PL trophies else Carra is going to have digestion problems.

As good as he is, and will be, no, not even close.

Still as you say, it's just the way prices are going these days.

Is he actually going? I thought the meeting where he was rumoured to be going to ask for a transfer was cancelled?

Raheem is an idiot. Imagine having the opportunity to go to Bayern and not taking it. He doesn't have to spend his whole career there if he doesn't like it, but to limit himself to England is really going to stunt his progress.
He may be an idiot, but putting all your faith in some gossip by Bild isn't very smart either.

There are a few valid reasons not to abroad too. He's got a kid, not sure what his situation is with the mother but it may mean he won't see his child as much. Would he move with his family or alone? Will he even get games at Bayern. It also wouldn't surprise anyone if Pep leaves next summer, so it might be somewhat unpredictable. There are other reasons too.

I personally, would have liked to see him go abroad, but I think it's perfectly understandable that he would rather stay in England, at this stage of his career.

Have I missed something here?

I'm yet to see a story from Sport_Witness that has actually been true. Nothing to see here.

Besides, if Pep calls, any footballer that doesn't take up that task to improve themselves and join the adventure is a fool in my book.

All they do is explain what news articles news articles from across the world say, they don't claim to have sources of their own. In this case they were referring to SportBild.

It's incredible how quickly football can change.

Just last season it looked like the unthinkable would happen and they'd win the league, playing cracking footy, smashing everyone for tonnes of goals, and Sterling, Sturridge and Suarez on top form.

Meanwhile we're stuck with Moyesie, playing awful footy, and finishing 7th, with no guarantee of bettering that.

Look at them now wow! Suarez gone, Sturridge of almost no benefit, and no guarantee he'll ever can be relied on again, and Sterling not only having an appalling season, but now acting up beyond words.

Love it!

Makes the unbearable behaviour of their fans last season, acting like they were the best team on the planet (when they hadn't actually won anything), kind of worth it.

I think Bayern would actually be a good place for Strrling to go because Robben and Ribery are getting old. With that said, if by some freak accident both of them are healthy all season I can see Sterling not getting a huge amount of game time which will no doubt cause him to have a whine.

Two wingers over 30 that rely on speed. Bayern need to start integrating new wingers.

Raheem better be prepared to spend serious time on the bench then. Robben and ribery are on a completely different level from him.

Liverpool have lost the plot, being held to ransom by a 20 yeard old 'prospect' oh how the mighty have fallen. He'll end up at City and they will get James Milner for good measure. At least were in no danger of missing CL football again for forseeable future.

They play 50 games or more each season. This season Ribery played less than half of their matches. He's not the fittest player there is and he'll probably be less fit the age. I'd certainly give Bayern a go given the chance at his age. Nothing wrong with staying at Liverpool either but the opportunity to realistically get a league and/or CL medal next season and get to train and play with that group and manager would be hard to turn down. He'll get more money to boot.

Indeed he would easily get at least 20-25 games at Bayern if he went there. Ribery especially has missed quite a bit of football in the last 2 seasons.

Cant complain with any of that...Id rather him go to Bayern than City anyday.
