The article in the Mail reads like it was written by Sterling himself. Liked this part -

He's fed up with pundits talking down to him, insisting the best place for him to continue his development is at Liverpool.

What makes Brendan Rodgers' tutelage better for his career than Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger or Manuel Pellegrini, who have all won the Premier League?

It's a question Sterling's asked himself. It's not been easy - but he's made his decision.

Actually on Little Richard's wiki a pretty much all of his singles are quite fitting for Sterling and his Liverpool career and departure:

Get Rich Quick
Ain't nothin' happenin'
Why did you leave me?
Fool at the wheel
Always
Rip it up
All around the world
Can't Believe You Wanna Leave
I'll Never Let You Go (Boo Hoo Hoo Hoo)
He Got What He Wanted (But He Lost What He Had)
Freedom Ride
Can I Count on You
Freedom Blues

That is 'walk the league' potential. I'd be real fecking pissed too. Those two are probably two of my very favourite non-Utd players.
No one is "walking" the league as long as Mourinho and this side is here.

oops hadn't seen that bit... definitely from Sterling then...
at the end of the day, he doesn't like Rogers - very plain to see, no doubt one of the reasons he wants to go...

With a front 4 like that they are. Your shit on a stick, I mean er, pragmatic, football will get Jose so far next year.

You're probably winding him up a bit, but no chance. Mourinho's Chelsea sides are usually masters at managing 38 game seasons. Chelsea would have to be really off it for any team to gain a huge point advantage and walk the league. City can be as good as they want, but Chelsea under Mourinho usually churn out results like robots.

I've always wondered when stories like this about players come up, how awkward it must be to come into training the next day. If it were me I'd try and ghost for the day.

Imagine how the players should have looked at Valencia when it was rumoured he was flirting with another woman. He is/was always labeled as the silent one.

He's probably taking a few days off to play the Witcher 3 anyway.

"Sorry Brenty mate, stubbed me toe while handing in the transfer request, need a few days...."

they threw it away last season....

Like last time he was here and would build a dynasty and with Jose and Romans money no one else would get a look in for ever bla bla bla. Enjoy polishing our trophy chap, we are coming back for it.

City didn't walk it though. Two points off second. Four off Chelsea in third.
My point wasn't that Chelsea are guaranteed to win it, just that it's unlikely City will walk it, no matter how impressive they are, or what front four they assemble.

Brophs is right. Uncanny

First thing that would have to happen for a transfer to UTD to even be considered is for Big Phil to hold the little twat down and Rooney to shave his head, looks like bloody dot cotton ffs.

True, can't see anyone walking the Premier League in the near future. Obviously it's possible, and I know every season fans get all optimistic that there are four teams all capable of mounting a title challenge, but for the next few years at least I can't see there not being at least two teams out of Chelsea, City, United and Arsenal mounting a genuine title challenge.

I'd prefer Coutinho to leave L'pool first.
The idiot sold himself very cheap to Liverpool with a long-term renewal earlier this season. He's stuck there for a while yet before he can realistically start getting himself out of there regardless of how far they sink in that time.

I was only talking of Chelsea. They pretty much had it sown up. They then collapsed...City had also given it up when Liverpool were all but certain.....

It was then that City breathed again after slippy....

point is no one is certain....This season City faded badly, Arsenal's run was very late...and we did not know what we were about until van Gaal got his act together.

I still expect Chelsea to be the favourites...but with the players we will get and van Gaal having a full season under his belt...we will be awful close if not win it.

Neville is right, he's being terribly advised, even if he wants to leave or has no intention of signing a new deal he should be keeping all this out of the press and making it clear to Liverpool privately behind the scenes.

I really dont know what I would do if I were in their situation, either make him honor his contract and hopefully persuade him into signing over the next year or just flog him for 40-50mill now and move on because it doesnt look like this media circus will dissipate over the kid.

The thing that's bothering me the most about this whole situation is the way Liverpool and Sterling are handling it. First of all, why should all that information about the contract talks being on hold until the summer be made public? Same goes for wages and stuff. Sterling's interview wasn't a smart move either and now this shit again, ffs. If you want a break up, at least do it in a clean way, he owes that much to the club.

On his imminent departure: I don't want any players at Liverpool who don't want to be there themselves, so he can go if he wants to. At the right price of course, which is somewhere around £40m in my opinion and we should try to go for £45-£50m if it's City who is after him. Don't even know if they can fork such a sum out of their budget with FFP though, we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed we finally do something useful with the money we're getting for him.

That's genuine world class player money. Players who have proven to be superstars and have done it in the CL or in top teams. What on Earth has Sterling accomplished or proven that makes him worth £40-50m?

Not even a club who's as insane with its money as City is would pay that, surely.

I dont suppose we will be in for him now that we have just signed Memphis, so I imagine City or Arsenal will be his best options.

I am a big fan of Sterling though and believe that United should be in for basically all the top English/British prospects in that mould. He and Bale were my first choices for a wide player this summer. Only way I could see him joining now would be at the expensive of either Mata or Di Maria though, perhaps in addition to Young, and Januzaj going on loan (and presumably Nani not returning).

Still, if it were me, I would be inclined to just cut the losses with Di Maria, bring Sterling in and have him and Memphis as the first choice winger. Very unlikely though.

There's no such thing. The price is the price, and it changes for each given deal.

I didn't say we'd get it, but we should definitely try. He's got two years left on his contract and although his second half of the season was quite average, he's still the reigning Golden Boy. If you look at some of the fees from the last transfer windows, £40m for a player like Sterling isn't anything outrageous and we shouldn't be selling him for anything less than that.

It's the rule for young English talent though isnt it, United ended up paying 30mill for Luke Shaw, and the figure being quoted for Harry Kane is .....40mill+
Sterrling is the hottest English talent around just now so... yea 40-50mill quotation seems about right, even if the rest of the world outside of the Premier League are rightfully puzzled by the numbers. :D

Just madness. You could get Reus or Griezmann or just about any world class attacking player for this amount.

The thought of Sterling costing more than Özil, Sanchez, Hazard, Agüero etc is simply ludicrous.

Same for David Luiz.

Hey, I think most would be in agreement, in the world where Enlgish talent like James Milner left Villa for City originially for 28mill, Andy Carroll ending up at 35mill etc, then you couldnt blame Liverpool for quoting 40-50 for Sterling though, then everyone wonders why Wenger and co. doesnt bother buying much British talent.

But, he does buy a lot of British talent.

Bale's coming to United, so Real may need another marquee signing. You could milk them for a few million or better still swap Sterling for Martin Ødegaard. He's a Liverpool fan as well.

Same for David Luiz.
As insane as that deal was, at least Luiz is one of the most famous footballers on the planet, plays for the most famous national side in the world, is a European champion, and regularly played CL football. He's an accomplished player.

Sterling has done feck all to merit that type of fee.
