Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1

RATM always raged against something of more importance than a harmless kid getting to number one.
When this track was originally released, it had no US airplay and was banned in the UK.
Where was the support campaign then? i bet half the people on this facebook crusade dont even own a Rage album but "they do as they were told to".

Why not support Rocha's new band and project which is will no doubt go unnoticed.

It's not about RATM, it's more about the lyrics being aimed at X-Factor/Cowell.

And it wouldn't have worked with an unknown band, because people wouldn't have gone for it.

Well you make a good point CMonkey but obviously this isnt about the track or supporting the band - I guess it was chosen just due to the chorus.

The artist who sells the most will be Christmas #1 end of really.

Indeed, but the fact that a single gets months and months of hype, is heard twice before it is released and then rockets straight to the top seems wrong to me.

Anyone heard what Shayne Ward is doing recently? Leon Jackson? Oh that's right he's been dropped from his record label. Funny that, i thought they were sure things to become huge sensations.

And i just found this out about Killing in the Name of:

The song became controversial in Britain once again in November 2008, when it was played over the speakers in an Asda supermarket in Preston, Lancashire, prompting numerous complaints from customers.

Elvis was that you?

I think it's more the fact that a bunch of people are very annoyed that the christmas number 1 is no longer earned rather is given to someone as a prize.

And i believe choosing a rage against the machine track is apt, as we are raging against Simon Cowell's crap music machine.

Super point there! Xmas number ones used to be a competition for the shittest song or attempt to get to number one! Gone are the days of mister blobby ....and has effectively become a prize for the x factor winner that they will usually get an xmas number one....

2004 was the last time a non x factor winner had number one and that was band aid 2

"That's My Goal" (2005) Shayne Ward
"A Moment Like This" (2006) Leona Lewis
"When You Believe" (2007) Leon Jackson
"Hallelujah" (2008) Alexandra Burke

So its become part of the prize and some shrewd marketing by cowell.

RATM for number one as Xander says going against Cowells crap music machine

Shayne is due to release an album next year. His 2 albums were a success.

Leon was indeed dropped. I never liked him anyway.

The actual single gets no hype as no one hears it until the FINAL. Although yes you are probably correct that the show does and the winner will in some way.

This should be Christmas No.1 Best christmas-released song I've heard in years.

Do you think it would have made the same sales without 3 months of prime time tv building up to its release?

 Of course it gets hype. It gets about 3 months television hype and then throw in all the articles in the newspaper and internet and you've got alot of advertisement.

Lets be honest here - this XFactor bloke could fart down a microphone for 2 minutes and it would still sell by the bucket load

People are not buying it for the single though, they are buying it for the same reason they called up every week voting for him.

Exactly. People who voted week in, week out feel they have some sort of attachment to the winner. So in their minds they made that single, and they want their single to be number one at Christmas as it feels like they accomplished it.

Morello is a legend, one of my favourite guitarists

Fun fact - He was such a big fan of Star Trek that he actualy appeared in an episode of Voyager

RATM are without a doubt the best live band i've ever seen. I've bought about 12 copies of killing in the name and may buy another 12. Such a great band.

Current figures show the song has sold 175,000 copies, compared to 110,000 for McElderry's single, The Climb.

:D

The power of the internet.

feck you I won't do what you told me

Less offensive that Bowie doing Little Drummer Boy mind.

I used to love Rage Against The Machine, one of my favourite bands.

Can't say I can be arsed to buy this though, but I do want it to get to Number One because the X Factor is a pain in the arse and it's boring that it always gets us the Xmas #1.

It also kind of feels like it's a 'power to the people' type thing... we don't want to keep paying Simon Cowell huge amounts of money each year so we're going to thwart him mwahahaha!

And surely the fact that the other song is a Miley Cyrus cover should make it desirable for ANY other song to beat it to number 1.

I just made the mistake of YouTubing the song and what a mistake that was. Dire boy band drivel with as much real emotion as a Happy Meal. Rage Against The Machine all the way.

I'm so grateful that X-Factor crashed and burned here after one series.

That's downloads only though isn't it, that single had it's CD release yesterday, so is expected to go past RATM
