Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1

When was the last time the same song was at number 1 for anything longer than maybe two weeks?

"Just Dance" featuring Colby O'Donis - Lady GaGa (3 weeks)
"The Fear" - Lily Allen (4 weeks)
"Poker Face" - Lady Gaga (3 weeks)
"Number 1" - Tinchy Stryder ft. N-Dubz (3 weeks)
"Break Your Heart" - Taio Cruz (3 weeks) (Sept 20 - Oct 11)

Cheers, also Umbrella as RedSky noted above was there for 10 weeks, Gnarls Barkley was there for 9 as well I think, had a little look around.

I hate seeing the x Factor single at number one every year as much as anyone. Problem is the label who stands to make the money for the RATM single sales is owned by Sony who Simon Cowell works for. It's also more publicity for the X Factor just like those moaning on about the voting earlier on this year. He's making money off your backs either way. Best way is to just not watch, talk or having anything to do with the X Factor and hopefully it might feck off eventually!

Its only 29p on Amazon - at that price it is worth buying just for shits and giggles.

Oh good god.

Yeah, and on iTunes too. Think its a losing battle keeping wee young campo Joe off number 1.

Apparently Sony BMG are getting massive profits from the X Factor bloke and RATM.

The cynic in me wonders who was behind the selection of RATM as the anti-X Factor vote? Is someone at Sony watching this unfold with a massive grin on their face?

If so, it has been very well done.

Even if they weren't behind it they'll still be watching with a massive grin.

What?! Why?

I have no idea ,I heard it on SKY news the other night.

EDIT just found this on another site

Digital Minimum Dealer Price £0.40p : Only tracks with a minimum PPD of 40 pence or more shall be eligible for the Official Singles Chart. In the event that a record company has an alternative business model for the sale of downloads (i.e., one not based on a published dealer price), the price charged to the online digital retailer should not be less than 32 pence per track. OCC will monitor sales to ensure they are 'genuine sales'. Where OCC judges sales not to be genuine, they may be excluded from the chart at OCC's absolute discretion.

If that's true then all of Amazon's sales of the x-factor single are null seeing as they're selling that for only 29p as well.

Yeah but did you know that any download that costs less than 40p does not count in the chart rundown.

Aparently it will count as Amazon themsleves are subsidising it or something - from the official Facebook page:

LET'S GET RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE TO THE CHRISTMAS NO.1 SPOT THEN!

I back this. I don't like that Sony still get something but I do like X-Factor being put in it's place.

Ah yeah I'd say so Pogue to be honest. I just want to hear the song on Christmas Day. It would be funny but I don't think for one second that Sony aren't delighted with all of this. I don't give a feck what happens in chart music, I would just like Killing in the Name of to be a No. 1 for Christmas. It'd be funny

Bryan Adams did amazingly well with 'Everything I do, I do it for you' it held top spot for a remarkable 4 years.

I was waiting to play a gig today and had some time to spare to go into a nice little Café near Tower Bridge and grab a cup of coffee and a full on slap up breakfast. Legendary stuff.

Anyway, I noticed the Café were kind enough to provide news rags, so I grabbed one and sat down with my cup of coffee as I waited for my breakfast.

The front page was basically filled with Joe McElderry coming out and saying he's not gay and that's he's a Virgin

This is how long after he's won the fecking show ? All of 2 days ? And Simon Cowell has the fecking gall to try and defend his audience, as if they were a music loving bunch of purists ? Yeah fecking right. The media content is exactly what the X-Factor audience want. "The show is over, now give us the dirt" ! We want to know whether he fanices Cheryl or not, and of course that ugly trogg of an excuse for a human being "Jordan" reared her boil infested head the minute Joe had won. My God talk about a woman so desperate for the lime light. And needless to say Joe reassured his audience that "there was no spark" between himself and Jordan, adding that it would be a bit odd to be with a girl a lot older than him who also has children.

It's a fecking circus guys. It's a mockery of music. It takes music, rapes it, dresses it up in a clown suits and throws faeces at it. It's one big dramatic soap opera that is being run by soulless, greedy, money hungry feckers who are pulling the strings of hordes of needy, celebrity-hungry, naive teenagers desperate to be in the tabloids like Jordan and co are.

Cowell I swear to feck you have so much to answer for in 10 - 15 years when we see the spawn of this whole façade. It scares me to think how many 25 year old young adults will be unable to play musical instruments let along write songs by the year 2025. So don't spout your shite about the Rage Against the Machine group ruining the party for the eventual winners. You are ruining how young people identify music. You are ruining the CRAFT of music playing and song writing.

Rott in hell you absolute cnut

Am I spastic or is something up with the Facebook group? Tried finding it and can't. Clicked on links that can take you to the group but it just redirects straight to Facebook Home.

I've typed into the search to find a group but I only get group with 1,000 members, which is clearly not the right one.

Jesus Christ, take a chill pill man. The sort of people who will be watching the X-Factor are the sort of people who would never have countenanced taking up an instrument and forming a band anyway.

Vacuous teenagers who listen to pop music, or aren't really big music fans at all, like the drama side of it; the music is secondary. But they wouldn't all be massive rock or rap fans if the X-Factor didn't exist - they just wouldn't give a shit about music at all, bar the odd Lady GaGa track that got put on when they were at a club.

Seriously, Cowell may be ruining pop music (to an extent, but all modern pop is manufactured anyway - at least this is honest about its commercial roots), but he's not ruining the "CRAFT of music and song writing".

You really think the next Jeff Buckley, or Tupak Shakur is going to watch the X-Factor and go, "right, well that's me done then". Or that the people who would buy their stuff, go and watch them at open mic nights, fill the small venues and tell all their friends would decide that, actually, feck it, the X-Factor makes more compelling viewing.
