Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1

The Sony argument is completely void of rationale. Every record label sucks up to some parent company whether it be Sony, EMI, Warner etc. There are really no truly independent labels capable of having music heard by anyone other than a small number of people and so having no chance of challenging something as truly horrifying as the Xfactor.

I think that RATM track was a good choice. I shouldn't have to spell out why.

A good choice but in reality they still have the monopoly on the Christmas number 1 because they own the music industry in essence. It's just that angst riddled teenagers and facebookers picked an out-spoken band who swear. A band that happen to be linked Cowell via the umbrella of Sony BMG. Not the whole of Sony music, a much smaller part in Sony BMG. So they are closer than it would appear. Here's a fact for you, JLS are signed to Epic.

JLS as in Cowell's runners up last year. Amazing eh? You all need to wake up and smell the coffee.

BECAUSE THE COFFEE SMELLS LIKE SHIT. This is fun.

Yes but when you say the Xfactor isn't ensured a monopoly on the christmas number 1, you may aswell say Cowell.

Cowell is the Xfactor. So whether you are personally against the show or the man is an irrelevance to be fair. When they are one and the same.

Well besides that all being complete nonsense, you are spot on. Well done.

To be fair, I've said alot of nonesense in this thread but that was hardly it. To say Cowell isn't the Xfactor is silly. Of course he is. The Xfactor's monopoly is Cowell's, to say or think otherwise is to embrace retardation.

This is the point - no one really does. At the end of the day some money grabbing big cat will get it, from which ever record label you buy from.

I musn't be following this very well, but could you reiterate the point of this scheme for me?

Yeah I know its all a big horrid circle of wonga and in all honestly a difference it not will make. I think I'm backing this campaign for two reasons, one just because it would be pretty funny to see some clown who actually thinks that singing karaoke on tv and being judged by celebrities = success, bascially fail. But more importantly because I'm still annoyed that my girlfriend spazzed out and went upstairs halfway through the final because I was talking over parts of it deploring the state of music and calling for the return of mass drug taking and very loud guitars.

I had to go home the next day so she could watch the rest on Sky+ without being disturbed. Says it all really.

Im not even going to bother replying. Late entry for wum of the year.

Honestly, I'm not. I admire the showing of people power that this whole scheme has caused, but it's still inherently funding the people who monopolise music anyway, specifically in this case, Cowell/The XFactor christmas number 1 onwership.

I like you :D I agree with pretty much everything you say, I just think, considering what this project is trying to do RATM we're the wrong choice, infact any artist associated with Sony would be wrong. I personally like the song, but something else should have been picked.

I think the fundamental principle behind this campaign is that it will be a bit of fun

so forget about the "money" or any other associated issues

buy the record and knock X-Factor off its perch, thats all

The campaign isn't called 'make Cowell poor' or 'lets destroy the monopoly the record companies have on the music industry'. Its about knocking X-factor off its perch. Yes Cowell owns X-factor and it is down to him that that abomination is aired, but there is no personal vendetta against Simon. Yes it is a bonus seeing the scripted bad man riled by the campaign, but its not what its about.

Like many other idiots you clearly missed the point entirely - the song was chosen due to the lyrics - labels, who gets the profit etc is all irrelevant.

The FB group is saying were behind by about 10,000 come on people buy some more! Do the above method at the least, it does work

Joe will win now he's in the lead, unfortunately the number of spastics outweighs the rest.

Those rumours are bollocks apparently.

Besides livehits was updated about 2 hours ago and still had Rage at number one. There's apparently been a HUGE buying surge since this afternoon. Keep the faith.

X Factor winner Joe McElderry has branded Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' "dreadful" after finally hearing his chart nemesis.

The star, who is currently 11,000 sales ahead of the Los Angeles band with 'The Climb', said he hated the track.

"They can't be serious!" he said. "I had no idea what it sounded like. It's dreadful and I hate it. How could anyone enjoy this? Can you imagine the grandmas hearing this over Christmas lunch?

"I wouldn't buy it. It's a nought out of ten from me. Simon Cowell wouldn't like it. They wouldn't get through to boot camp on The X Factor - they're just shouting."

Simon Cowell has already branded the Facebook campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to the UK singles Christmas Number One slot ahead of Joe McElderry "very Scrooge".

The X Factor mogul claimed that despite the campaign to get 'Killing In The Name' to the top spot the reality TV show winner would still be victorious.

Now, McElderry has defended Cowell and said his own track deserves to be Christmas Number One.

He told The Sun:"I think people are jumping on this to have a go at Simon and The X Factor rather than me. But Simon gives people a shot."

"I will be really disappointed if it doesn't go to No1 after all the effort I've put in to this and winning the show."

 Oh man, he is doing himself no favours, he wants people to buy his record....this is the last thing you would say this will just inspire more people to buy RATM

"They wouldn't get through to boot camp on the X Factor"

As if that's something that every musician should aspire to.

The fecking Beatles probably wouldn't have gone through to boot camp on the X Factor, the fecking Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

I'm more worried about how Zach will take the news that the X Factor winner doesn't think RATM would get to X Factor boot camp, he must be distraught!

Yesterday RATM gave their fans a massive incentive to buy their single – by offering to return to the UK in 2010 and play a free gig if they win.

“If our single Killing In The Name is No 1 over the X Factor winner we will play a huge free concert in the UK to celebrate the victory of this historic people’s campaign,” said frontman Zack De La Rocha.

“If the unprecedented grassroots movement to topple X-Factor is successful, we will return to the UK’s shores in 2010 for a massive ‘thank you’ gig.”

Fantastic!

"RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE have just announced that if their single "KILLING IN THE NAME" is number one on the Christmas Week UK pop charts over the single from X-Factor winner they WILL PLAY A HUGE FREE CONCERT IN THE UK TO CELEBRATE THE VICTORY OF THIS HISTORIC PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN!!!! If the unprecedented grassroots movement to topple the X-Factor monopoly is successful in making Rage number one the group will return to UK shores sometime in 2010 for a massive "thankyou" gig. And get this...Rage have vowed to invite 2nd Place finisher, X-Factor empressario Simon Cowell, to MC the show! Said Rage guitarist Tom Morello late friday night: "Attention Freedom Fighters! RAGE VS. X-FACTOR WILL BE DECIDED BY SATURDAY'S SALES. Spread the word! Knock on doors! Host downloading parties! Knock over ladies buying X-Factor! The clock is ticking. And if "Killing in the Name" is number one WE ARE COMING. And it will be the victory party to end all victory parties." TM

Rage Against the Machine

"Knock over ladies buying X-Factor!"

When do we find out who's got it? Tomorrow?

 what a fag.

Bought a copy about ten minutes ago, better late than never.

^ Just in time too!

Oh and incase you lot havent noticed, the chart counting has ceased now so anyone buying anymore copies will have them count for nothing.

Tune in tomorrow at 4pm on Radio 1 folks, fingers crossed we have it in the bag!

I hate all this.

I love RATM – one of the best bands ever imo. I feel there good name is being dragged into this stupid circus. What disappoints me more, is that there now getting behind it - i thought that they wouldn’t want to associate themselves with this kind of shit.

Though i do understand that they didn’t start it and i suppose if the ball is rolling, you may as well get behind it. Its great that some of the money goes to charity.

That fact that most people will only ever associate Rage with the X factor is pretty sad.

I saw Rage for the first time at Reading last year – they were unbelievable. If one good thing comes out of this, its that they will tour England again soon.

Anyone who makes a Miley Cyrus cover abdicates all right to an opinion about music.

Of course theyd get behind, this is afterall part of what they stand for - sticking it to the man and proving a point.

And theyve already said if they get #1 they will do a mahoosive gig for free over here

Great, but for most people in the UK, RATM will only ever be known as the anti X Factor group. In the eyes of most people, they will be remembered almost as a novelty - like Mr Blobby or Bob the Builder.

Yeah but who cares about those lot? Us old fans will know the score
