He was totally tired and lacked rythm (first match since 7 sept and couldn't make a 100% sprint as the match went on... anyway with his fitness in this state he changed the game for Ajax. Ajax weren't able to create anything, were put under pressure and couldn't string 3 passes together. When he went on he made a pass (a near-assist) but the free header went in the hands of the keeper. Afterwards he scored and put the match away

Bollocks, I had forgotten that. He was interviewed about an year ago for ESPN Latin America and the whole thing was conducted in Spanish. He just kept going on about how much Spain meant to him (although I think the question was whether he would rather play for Spain so he was probably giving a diplomatic NO).
Another one we won't see in Red unless he is 30+ and playing his last season...
