Juan had every right to give Rafael a bollocking there. And tbf Rafael is going to react. It happens in football. Nothing in it.

Pity about the crowd reaction but I doubt it was all Brazilians, probably a lot of English fans.

Yep. Clearly to blame for losing us the league and champions league

The Everton game was on him. It's bad enough that Evra will keep on letting you down when it counts. Having the same crap on the other side of the pitch will keep killing the team.

Rafael's mistake lead to the goal. He was absolutely dreadful along with the rest of Brazils defence.

Rafael started badly and it went downhill after that. He's never going to be a solid defender , so lets not kid ourselves.

Juan did nothing wrong. Rafael deserved a bollocking for attempting a stupid backheel in such a dangerous position.

:wenger:

Inevitably Rafael will be made out as the scapegoat, I just hope people like yourself remember to include the part where a man over 6 feet tall came running over to him, stood over him and shouted in his face.

Rafael made an error, although it was something the likes of Neymar were doing all game, Rafael should have left it to the likes of Neymar to try beating a man in your own half. But having a thug run up to him, intimidate him and shout in his face wasnt going to help. Rafael reacted badly (although standing up to a much bigger, stronger man is probably part of the reason people other than yourself like Rafael. He has character) and unfortunately he may have damaged his chances for Brazil in the future. But the likes of Thiago 35 million Silva made as many mistakes today as Rafael and nobody was shouting in his face.

Juan was right to have a go but not in his face like that. Rafael was only ever going to react one way after that.

He was good going forward again from what I saw but the brainfarts at the back are concerning.

Had a poor game but playing in a disorganized team doesn't help.

Doesn't really matter. What he does for United when the season starts does.

Also he deserved the scolding he got from Juan.

I've given up on him now. After watching him have ANOTHER bad game in the Olympic Final I've decided he'll never be top class. feck all those class games he's had, and feck his age excuse, he should be better than this now.

Remember how good Rio was at 21? How good world class defenders like Vidic and Evra were at the age of 21 playing in top leagues for top clubs?

He's shit and always will be.

You would think Rafael is the most idiotic RB in the league reading this.

edit obv not twiggs comment.

No whit text? He's no way shit , but defending wise he will not be as solid as his going forward.

He didn't go downhill at all after that. Started badly then got a lot better until a one minute period where he lost the ball by trying something silly, had a shouting match with a teammate and got subbed off.

Nothing knew was learnt today, he is a solid defender when he keeps his concentration. That's what he needs to improve. You're a fool to write him off.

Don't know why Rafael is getting shit off Savage and Bright for reacting to Juan. Ofcourse he's going to react, doesn't mean Juan wasn't right to have a go at him. Mark Bright said it's "not nice" how he reacted to Juan. Weirdo.

Don't see why the guy went up to him like that, the Brazilian team is full of fannies who try fancy flicks and give the ball away. You would think with the most expensive defender in world football at the back they would be a bit more organised but nah, the defence has been a shambles all tournament.

He does need to get his crossing back though, there was a time when it was very good for a fullback. Maybe rushes it a bit at the moment

One thing giving someone a bollocking, another thing getting in his face to do it. That will obviously provoke a reaction, especially Rafael whom his team-mate must realise is already hot-headed.

Juan should have left it up to the captain to dish out some justice, wasn't the captain Thiago Silva?

He's young and mistakes happen, these are the sort of things that he'll learn from. End of the day brazil aren't or at least didn't look a particularly solid defensive unit and that wasn't just rafael. He won't get exposed as much at united and has shown plenty of excellent displays before. Young defensiders make mistakes, especially the ones that are willing to take chances in attack. If it succeeds you're revered if it goes wrong you're hounded. The likes of rio, vidic, era have all been guilty of clangers, most of us will have seen rio over his whole career and in his younger days, even mid to late twenties he had some big lapses in concentration. It happens, you learn from it and hopefully your team mates bail you out. I still think he's got more than enough to be top class.

He's never been shit. Ever.

And Rio made lots of errors when he was young. I doubt you even saw Vidic when he was 21. Are you writing Jones off as well? Rafael was much better defensively than him last season.

The reason Juan gave him a Bollacking is because it wasn't the first time Rafael had played a sloppy pass. He was directly responsible for the first goal and then with Brazil needing 2 games he was sloppy again.

I can't see how anyone can defend him on the basis of that game to be honest.

End of the day though i hope his confidence ahead of the season isn't dented. One to forget today.

I'm guessing you missed the completely obvious sarcasm in that post...

Are you being serious?

There's no time to let your captain have a word with a couple of minutes left and you're 2-0 down, Juan was right next to Rafael. It was frustation more than anything. The pressure and expectation on them to win these Olympics was immense. This is a nothing incident.

Brazil didnt need 2 games.

And yes he made 2 mistakes, nobody in the Brazil team made less than that. Even the most expensive central defender in the world made more than 2 mistakes. And according to posts on here, he's world class.

Except stand like a statue when Mexico's second goal went in. Rafael was probably thinking that people in glass houses shouldn't be dishing out bollockings in that manor.

No, but people are going to defend him when a team mate confronts him and acts the dick like that, when the rest of the Brazil team weren't much better. What about the amount of times Neymar gave the ball away and missed chances, what about Marcelo giving the ball away, what about the most expensive defender in the world making a howler and almost costing them another goal?

He needs to sort out his temper and clumsy challenges to be a top class fullback or have any chance to make it in the WC squad in 2 years time. The difference between him and Marcelo on the opposite side for Brazil at Olympics has been obvious.
