Can someone please tell me which page the muppetry started so I can have an entertaining read. This came out of nowhere.

Really surreal signing this.

I suppose van Gaal doesn't believe van Persie will ever have a continued run in the side due to injuries and with his upcoming knee operation, this signing makes sense. It almost certainly has ramifications on Welbeck however, so I can't not see him leaving, but hopefully it's just a loan deal.

It's very astute business though. Essentially a £6M loan fee for a sensational #9 that could qualify us for the Champions League and bring in an extra £20-30M in revenue. Then if our four forward options next season are Rooney, Falcao, Welbeck (off of an impressive loan) and Wilson, the long-term future of our forward options looks very secure.

I remain kind of skeptical about this transfer but I hope Falcao will make me eat my own words. I just don't really see our team being able to provide enough service for him to shine. Good though that it's only a loan with a buy option at the end of the season which basically means that if it works out with him we will be able to buy him and if it doesn't work out he will be gone after the season.

I was in lectures this morning, and suddenly I heard whispers behind me and all I could make out was "Falcao" and "Manchester". I thought, feck City has signed him. A few minutes later, the word "United was constantly being mentioned".

Needless to say, I excused myself mid-lecture and ran home to the Caf.

I can't believe what the feck is going on  Transfer Deadline Day is the dog's bollocks.

Wow, this is just amazing. And people keep saying we are not done yet, one more midfielder coming.

Falcão is coming with Berbasex status.

£43.5m for the deadliest striker in world football is an incredible deal. Almost worth buying him outright now. This is such a great deal, fair play Ed.

My only worry is that this was Woodward just doing it without Van Gaals approval, we'll see I guess.

LvG would grab his bollocks - I think Louis is creaming himself at the idea of working with Di Maria and Falcao

so is his guy 100% fit right now or is it going to be another few weeks before we've a full selection.
its a very exciting signing, you'd think he'll be RVPs competition and you wonder if there's long term concerns over robins ability to stay fit.

i think at this point in time signings like this and ADM can do as much good in raising the confidence about the place which is still very low following the start to the season. seeing guys like this come in must give everyone a boost

That's a worry for me too. Especially after the "unbalanced" stuff from Van Gaal last month.

Also have nagging suspicion that everyone is thinking of the Falcao we saw at Atletico and he's been on the decline since, which will have been exacerbated by this cruciate operation.

Anyone watch much of him at Monaco last season?

looks fit to me

At least gives an idea of what he's still capable of:

Yup its because of how he was with new transfers at Bayern that he didn't give approval for and then the unbalanced stuff here. I was going with the assumption that Welbeck wants to leave because he isn't getting enough football, but you'd think if RvP truly was out then Welbeck would get games? Maybe he just wants to leave anyways.

RVP might be injured but also Louis van Gaal has said he will not buy due to results but only if it improves his selection. It is possible he thinks Falcao is an upgrade on Hernandez and will considerably improve his selection.

I think the line up will be:

- - - - - - - - - - - -De Ge - - - - - - - - - -

- - - - Jones - - - Smalling - - - Rojo - - - -

Rafael - - - - - Carrick / Blind - - - - - - Shaw

- - - - - - Herrea - - - - - - di Maria - - - -

- - - - - - - Rooney - - - - - Falcao - - - - -

So the 3 in the middle is with the point backwards, Carrick or Blind will hold, di Maria will be the most offensive central midfielder as he was for Real Madrid and Herrera will support both defence and attack like Modric did.

For Juan Mata, either he proves himself to be a strong second striker but he has to overcome Rooney, Falcao and RVP but otherwise he must compete with Herrera or Angel di Maria by adapting his game to central midfield.

------

For me the midfield of Carrick or Blind, Herrera and di Maria will provide plenty for Rooney and Falcao. The question is how much can the flanks provide for him.

"The deal includes an option for United to buy the striker for 55m euros (£43.5m) at the end of the loan spell." - BBC
 I'd love to say that that's a utterly pointless option given he'll be 30 pretty soon rather than a 24 year old with the best years ahead of him, but with Unitef these days in the transfer market, I really don't know. This deal is really really strange unless there's doubts over rvp's future.
