I love how everyone is classifying Di Maria as a midfielder. I reminds me back in 2012 people complain about not signing a midfielder and someone will say "well we signed Kagawa".

But leaves us with a severely unbalanced squad. We'll have three strikers on big money(and we play with two) and we still have problem in other areas of the pitch!

Wasn't long ago where 4-2-4 used to be normal. Before my birth but nevertheless.

Lets go retro.

Bit different. Di Maria ran up and down the pitch and operated behind the attacking trio last year, unlike Kagawa, who thrives playing closer to the striker.

Why buy a striker when we cannot create chances for the strikers we already have. Pretty sure this is not going to happen, but Falcao must be looking forward with anticipation to those long balls hoofed up field by the defenders.
Falcao's movement is on another level to the strikers we currently have. That's a part of the problem solved.

I could see Rooney getting "angry and confused" again if he's moved back to midfield.

Shouldn't do considering in one of LVG's first pressers he mentioned that Rooney said he could play there, think Rooney said it himself in an interview as well?

Would be an odd signing if it happens. We don't really need strikers right now, particularly one that costs so much.

He did start as a conventional midfielder this weekend, no?

No amount of movement by Falcao is going to help make up for the lack of scoring opportunities created. But i do understand your view, i'm just too disgusted with what i have seen over the last 4 matches. Different system and we would have won at least 3 of those matches.

He's making SSN now. Not surprising, of course, but it's obvious he's definitely coming to the PL.

Love how they still mention City as in for him after saying Negredo LOAN move.

L2FFP Sky jesus

I'm coming to my senses a bit, don't think this is too likely to happen. Won't complain if it did, though.

Di Maria was part of a 3 man midfield. Usually on the left side shadowing Ronaldo.

Someone at the club is officially clueless if we buy this guy. Would be livid.

Would genuinely prefer to sign someone like Schneiderlin. As is Falcao only makes the squad more unbalanced.

If we can swing the loan deal instead, this would be brilliant business. Better than Rooney. RVP possibly out for months. Welbeck leaving. Plus, we could go in for a MF or two.

Rather sign him for 55 mil than loan him for 20.

I don't think a loan deal is any kind of value at all. Not for £20m.

At least with a permanent signing we'd get additional commercial revenue. I mean Falcao in the biggest league in the world, that's hella marketable.

If you look at it from a FFP perspective. A loan deal is a £20m payment + wages for one year. Whereas a transfer (on a 4 year contract) is £12.5m per year + wages.

I can understand concerns that we should prioritize midfield over a new striker, but does it really make it unbalanced? Hernandez is off and Welbeck could be off too. A third senior striker doesn't make the squad unbalanced, IMO. I'd actually be concerned if Rooney and RvP would be our only senior strikers.

Depends if we get an option to buy. 20m loan now, 35m purchase next summer. Monaco get their money. We get the player and manage to spread the money bit.

Also allows us to buy more players this summer and more next.

We're already struggling to fit Rooney and RvP into the lineup. How do you bench Rooney, RvP or Falcao?

Of course you need at least three strikers but having three of that calibre is completely unnecessary. Just keep Welbeck and focus on the actual problem areas.

Well if we're looking to buy him outright, I think its fair to say that money isn't an issue at all. Either way, I think Monaco want to sell outright and would prefer to sell to a club of that kind.

By "as is" I meant if everything else stays the same. If RvP is out for an extended period and Hernandez and Welbeck are indeed sold then it's a different story. Even then though you could argue that spending that much money on a 28 year old who is recovering from a serious injury is risky.

You don't fit them in, you drop the shittest two. Rooney wins that easily. RVP needs a knee op. Enter Falcao.

It does not make the squad unbalanced in terms of numbers but we will have 3 superstars with huge wages and one of them will be on the bench... Unless Robin, Rooney and Falcao somehow all start in some formation in LVG`s brilliant head. And we are looking to straight buy him so that rules him out as a short term solution

I`d have signed him in a heartbeat if it was the season he moved to Monaco... Surely he is worth less than 60 million now ?

I agree with that point of view, and his injury is a valid concern.

Harsh, but its time tough calls of this kind were made!

Exeter Express and Echo reckon he's off to City once they've sent out Negredo.

Do you really think that is the most pressing problem with the squad?

Well Hernandez is gone, Welbeck will probably leave, RVP out for months.

Just Rooney as our striker?

I don't think it's our most pressing concern, no, but we can't be relying on Rooney. He's just not the same player he was.

I don't know, I'm always of the opinion that you can't turn down players of Falcao's calibre if they become available and you can afford them.

Rather City than Arsenal, City already have world class strikers and Falacao will make them better no doubt but not to the extent of arsenal.
