PSG vs Man Utd | Build-up Thread | Return leg Wednesday 06.03

I Have some hope for this game now , PSG are very edgy when it comes to the CL. if we approach this game with a nothing to loose attitude, we may have a real contest on our hands

Really hoping this happens:D I now have more confidence for this tie now. I hope we can hit them with a goal or 2 early in the first leg (Like the Scousers did) and try to go over there after a good result.

If we are still in it by the away leg. I could see us possibly getting a result and then who knows.

I'll be disappointed if we don't beat those arrogant fecker. Their fans have become more arrogant then Madrid, United, Barca, Liverpool, Bayern, Juventus fans put together . Reading some of french papers and forums, you'll think they are bigger club then United. They are the club a fear the least among the big club in the CL; every time they come across a big team in CL they lost, even this season they struggled against Liverpool and Naples.

Nobody can beat some Barcelona fans; they have invented football, they are football, you know.

Out of curiosity, which French papers and forums?

You actually think Jose would steer us through against PSG in the CL? He's lost all semblance of tactical nous. We were in for a heavy defeat under him.

We still may be headed for a heavy defeat, but we know we will atleast try to do something and not bend easily under Ole.

I was talking from a PSG perspective.

After games like today, get the feeling in this system we can give them a good game.

They are nothing like Bournemouth though. Besides, Bournemouth could have scored more than 1 goal today. Still, chances are probably 30/70 now vs 15/85 under Jose. There is time to improve the defence.

Would love to be proven wrong, but we are going to get slapped. They are on a different level to us offensively and defensively. Mbappe and Neymar are going to have a field day with our defence.

Even so, at least we won't cower in our own area for 180 minutes.

They are clear favourites but hey, bigger upsets happened in football before.

They're hardly tested defensively, they may have a better attack, and they'll probably win, but I think it'll be a high scoring game.

Atleast with Ole in charge we will actually play some decent free flowing attacking football. Still don't expect us to win but atleast the games with actually be enjoyable to watch rather than a complete bore fest.

We are not expecting to win this tie but I just want the players to go out there and give it their very best shot. Never mind what the score is, I just want them to give it their all.

Would be magic if we pulled off an upset.

I don't think we would beat them with any manager but I'm looking forward to the spectacle far more

I wouldn't be so sure tbh. I see us setting up defensively with the intent to hit them on the break. I don't see us getting out of our half much, less to do with tactics, more to do with them just pinning us in. It's an unfortunate draw for us, almost any other team and I would have given us a shout. PSG for me are favourites to win the whole tournament.

I don't think they're best suited to dealing with high pressure. They seem to falter in CL regularly because of it.
I really fancy our chances here.

We'll see. Maybe this is the year it all comes together for PSG but they have yet to get past the quarter-finals and are usually knocked out by the first serious opponent. Remains to be seen if we can be considered as such though, true enough.

But hey, we gave Guardiola's Bayern a game with David fecking Moyes - no reason why we can't at least put up a good fight against PSG with this group. I expect end-to-end games, should be fun.

Gone from absolutely dreading this to being quite excited for it. I still don't think we'll beat them but we'll actually attack and have a go and that is enough for me at this point.

I get the feeling these are a bit like City, thrive being the bully but don't like it up em. From what I saw of their group they weren't very good in either game v Napoli and were dominated at Liverpool, Napoli absolutely pulverised them in Naples yet bizarrely settled for the draw once they got the deserved equaliser. Excellent at home v Liverpool though and the warning sign is probably they barely got out of their half at Anfield yet still scored two, such is their quality you give em one tiny gap and they often take it. I think this could be something mental like 6 each on agg. Any sort of win at home is a good one, I think we can score out there then who knows.

Big Dave
Young - Lindelof - New CB - Shaw
Matic
Herrera - Virus
Alexis - Rashford - Martial

Spend the January money on a commanding CB and go at them full throttle.

Oh ye, I certainly expect us to at least have a go and try give them a game. I think we'll score a goal or two on the break too. It will be an entertaining game nonetheless.

Ole might not be a clever tactician, but atleast he will know the best way to contain PSG is to press them aggressively rather than sitting back. Giving Neymar or Mbappe too much of the ball and parking the bus will be suicide as they are flair players who can get around any defense if given time on the ball.

But if we press them and try to win the ball, we stand a chance. In any case, if we lose, it will be due to our inferior quality as opposed to tactical issues as in the Sevilla game.

Plus, stranger things have happened. Roma beat Barca in the knock-outs, and I would say the levels are comparable to ourselves and PSG in terms of quality. Sometimes, simple methods work against good teams.
Agreed, we have to bet on Pogba, Herrera and Matic against their midfield. I am guessing Verratti will be there, but I wonder who would be the others. It seems Rabiot won't be used if his contractual situation keeps being an issue.

Anyway, we have to cut the ball supply to the 3 strikers for PSG. And force them to come down to get the ball.

They don't have much of a midfield, if their January window doesn't go so well we have a genuine chance.

The issue is our defence isn’t as good as Napoli or Liverpool. You give Neymar, Mbappe or Cavani chances or space then they will punish you.

Without a new C.L. eligible centre back, we don’t have a chance. Even a decent defender on loan might be a good move for us.

I had absolutely zero interest in this game when it was announced, I didn't even watch or follow the draw.

Now? Under Ole? Quite a tasty fixture! Even if we are significant underdogs

These lot are easily top 3 in europe. Not only are they walking the league, but they came 1st in the group of death in the CL.

We'll give them a game at home and will need a lot of luck to go through.

Jesse says :(

Steady on lads we couldn't keep a clean sheet against Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth. No chance we stop them from scoring and they're a lot stronger at the back than any of those teams. It'll be a miraculous effort to beat them over two legs .

If we see a 'pogba like' come back in form from sanchez come this tie then I think we will progress. Sanchez and Pogba on their day alongside the nuisances of Rashford, Martial will cause so much trouble. Hopefully our defence improves a bit in the time leading up to it.

Our defence is too weak. Think we’ll score and can match them in midfield but their attack is too strong.

They looked comfortably the worst team in that group after Red Star. Somehow Liverpool and Napoli dropped points against the latter or else it would've been curtains for PSG.

Meh, unlike a lot of people here, to me PSG don't seem like the undomitable force they're being made out to be. Sure they have a powerhouse of attack, so do we especially when unshakled like being proven right now.

They'll get at our defense and cause issues, so will we. PSG haven't done particularly anything spectacular in the CL, nor are they proven over there either. I see this game as one that could go either ways. Both teams have firepower to hurt each other.

I think a lot of people will be surprised to see what this team is TRULY capable of by the time we get to play them.

Yeah, this forum has a habit of over hyping PSG every single year.
Its really strange.

Absolutely buzzing for this game now, they'll be just as defensively frail as us.
