PSG vs Man Utd | Build-up Thread | Return leg Wednesday 06.03

The last time we beat Real Madrid in the CL. Managed by a certain Louis van Gaal, Van der Sar on goal. Won the CL earlier that year, just a few days before winning the world cup for club teams. Those were the days...

Holy shit! That game at the Bernabeu was one of the best for Ajax performance wise.. LVG even called it ''the perfect match''! Ah the memories..

If Spurs perform at the level they did against Juve last season, they'll be favourites against Dortmund imo. Juve were lucky to progress.
Can see Spurs being too much for Dortmund due to their physicality and Son who's scored so much against Dortmund already.

The Mourinho you knew and the one actually working at United are 2 very different people. It's time to get with the times and accept he's finished and past it. He couldn't even knock out Sevilla last season

I hope you're right but underdog or not, we're useless.
I would argue Mourinho wins another league title before United do. Granted he has been a massive failure at United but I think there is a lot more too it then just "Mourinho is shit". He needs to pick the right club for his next job. He is one of the greatest coaches of all time for a reason only time will tell if I am right. With that being said I hope he is sacked sooner rather than later.

The players are a factor as well and there are little to no MEN at United all social media prima donnas. Look at the players he had at Inter who would literally die on the pitch for him. It is not everything but its part as well.

Extremely spirited performance coupled with a lot of luck might take us through. Not if Mourinho is in charge though.

As for other pairings, nothing seems a certainty to me, apart from just a few, like City and Barcelona.

Oh is it telling when it is last 16 and it feels like we are already out, and our tie will probably be the most straightforward one.

He's had 3 summer windows and 2 winter windows to seriously and positevely impact the squad in terms of motivation and quality. He can feck off as far as I'm concerned. He's destroyed the soul of this club and many of its players.

It has been destroyed for a long while now and it started before he was there. He should leave though not just for the club but for himself as well.

Mourinho isn't winning any more big titles. And the Portuguese league doesn't count imo. He's finished at the top level. Just like Wenger before him.
He could maybe fluke his way to some cups but he's done.

Liv-Bayern, Spurs-dortmund, and Roma-porto are coin flips. Atletico will give juve some trouble but I expect juve to advance. City, PSG, Real, and Barca will easily destroy their opponents.

I’m really not looking forward to us being humiliated against PSG. Just the thought of Neymar, Mbappe, and Cavani against our shambolic setup makes my skin crawl.

Only time will tell but he is still too young for a coach to be done I think he will get his mojo back. You don't just lose that overnight. Also lets not even compare Wenger to Mourinho with all due respect they are not even on the same platform.

Nah. He wad given an ok/good squad but he fecked it all up. Made worse every single one of his signings. Pissed money on Alexis Sanchez.
He is doing more damage than LVG and Moyes

Because opposing teams have not tried that enough against us this season? The go to tactic against us at the start of the season was to put massive pressure on our midfield and build up play to disrupt our game plan. Did not take that long for the opponents to realize that Witsel is one of the most pressing resistent players in the world and would just shrug that pressure off and still pull off pass percentages north of 90% (funny how people are so fixated on the front four, which are around the same level but ignore our CM including said Witsel who is by quite a margin the best midfielder out of both teams). Throw in Delaney aswell, who has more grit than the majortiy of the EPL midfielder and gets gleefully excited for games with a bit of a physical edge and you suddenly have a rock solid midfield, which is the polar opposite to the one that faced the Spurs the last time.

Why so defensive? Most teams in the BL are not comparable in quality to Spurs, neither are the likes of Brugge and Monaco. Dortmund had a great win over Atletico at home but then lost away. And a win over Bayern isn't enough evidence for me that Dortmund will be able to handle Spurs' athleticism and physicality.

Some great ties.

Juve-Atletico is so brutal. Juve favourites but they won't be many goals in that one. Whoever scores an away goal will go through.

Schalke-Man. City. Easy for Man. City.

Man. United-PSG. Very hard to make a case for Man. United in their present state. PSG will score at OT I'm sure and that will probably be that.

Spurs-Dortmund. 50/50 tie imo.

Lyon-Barca- Can see Lyon giving Barca some issues at home but overall a comfortable Barca aggregate win.

Roma-Porto- Nice tie for both. Will go for Porto as don't rate Roma this season.

Ajax-Real Madrid. Kind draw for Real Madrid given their issues. Will be nice seeing how next generation of De Ligt and De Jong do in this one.

Liverpool- Munich. Fancy Liverpool in this one. Bayern Munich seem a bit of a disorganised and tired team this year, feels a season too far for their long serving players.

Would be such a cop out if Mourinho just goes to PSG after this to top up his league title count.

Inter or Portugal seem logical choices to me.

Better than Dembele? By "quite a margin"? I think not.

Dembele started the grand total of 9 games this season. Interestingly 4 of them have been defeats for Spurs.

Call me crazy, but still I think we're going to win the whole CL this year. Certainly "undeserved" if so, but I hope we do it, It would be so damn delicious, and funny as shit as well.

Sorry but the Mourinho from Porto, Chelsea or Inter isn't the same since his last season at Real Madrid. You can't judge someone based only on what he won. There are a lot of good coaches who never won nothing like him and you only need to see their teams on the pitch to know they are better. Football doesn't work like that. He should finish or stop to reivent himself.

Means nothing. I bet Kane started in everyone of those games too. The issue with Dembele now is being prone to injury, but if he's fit when we come to play Dortmund then I imagine he'll be in the starting XI.

We're gonna beat PSG for the banter.

We're gonna do it convincingly too and then lose to someone we shouldn't in the next round or get caned 9-0 by City.

I can't imagine how will Smalling and co survive against Neymar.

Rough predictions from the betting markets:

Spurs v Dortmund 50/50
Roma v Porto 55/45
United v PSG 28/72
Ajax v Real 20/80
Liverpool v Bayern 52/48
Lyon v Barca 13/87
Atletico v Juventus 35/65
Schalke v City 10/90

There is some good value in these markets.

PSG, Liverpool and Ajax especially are undervalued and you can literally bet your house on City going through against Schalke. Currently sitting in 13th, just 3 points above relegation zone.

I prefer us against PSG than any other club, that's how Mourinho works in Champions League.
And it's better to lose against PSG than to Porto, just in case.

Only time will tell but it's simply idiotic to count out one of the most successful coaches all time. Like I said all it takes is the right club to get that joy back and that works for both players and managers. Look at Nani for example who just was meh in Lazio couldn't get a foot in. Goes back to Sporting and is rejuvenated and having fun again.

At this current time anything positive about Mourinho will be idiotic but don't be surprised to see him leave United and go on and win a few titles and maybe a CL somewhere else. Like I said he is still young.

Also yes their are other good coaches for sure and IF they are good enough they will go to the top clubs in Europe and conquer that is what separates the good from the great. You can't just throw out his whole incredible CV just because of some bad years.

With that being said I want him out of United as much as you guys he is not happy and the club is not happy it is time to part ways.

Like many Reds, I fear abject humiliation in this tie; total carnage. The thought of our defence against the PSG attack makes me feel ill. Zero chance of beating them at the moment; none at all.

He’s won 1 league title in the last 6 years, didn’t get past quarter in CL, sacked for being at bottom half of table midway through December and now being mid table and 11 pts off 4th place with a team he’s already spent 400m building.

It wasn’t ‘overnight’ at all. The decline has been gradual, including his Madrid days.

I agreed with SportingCP96 #673 post.

Jose obviously have alot of headaches and stress over Man United, seeing him unhappy like this, I want him to leave. The players obviously doesn't like him. The fans also doesn't like him, etc.. The only way to make everybody happy, simply is Jose leave. I support he leave, for his own sake too.

I will open my eyes wide to see how much the players will improve and how many matches Man United will win after Jose gone from the club. IF we improve, then obviously it the coach (Jose) fault. Now if we not improve at all, continue to be in poor form like this, then obviously it deeper than just the Jose fault. Tbh, sometimes I feel that the players (some) just aren't good enough, not everything is Jose did this did that terrible, it all Jose fault. Nahh.

Mourinho should go back to Inter Milan, I feel that he happier there. Like I said, I will open my eyes wide to see his success or failure after he leave Man United. Will he succeed in another club? Maybe. Will he fail? Maybe. Anything is possible including he will go on win things for his upcoming club.

Just leave, I want him to leave. Then we will have all the answer to is everything Jose fault? If it all Jose fault, then obviously Man United will be back on top once he gone right? So we will see.

All it takes is an injury or two and things can change. That being said, your fear sustains and delights me. I hope your nightmares come true on February.

Crazy, but I think United can do a number on PSG. Happy enough with that draw and looking forward to seeing the matches. Lots of time between now and then, and one assumes Jose still has professional pride.

Calm down... Remember how Fellaini tore Neymar a new hole last World Cup summer? And Ashley Young would do to Mbappe what he did to Salah. As for Cavani, you believe he would bring his scoring boot against freaking De Gea?
I'm sick of us being constantly downplayed. How about we freaking go for it?
And the Old Trafford sheeps? How about you actually be intimidating to the opponent for once this season?

Jose's tactics vs PSG. Park the bus, a cruise liner and an oil tanker and hope to nick a goal with a vespa
