PSG vs Man Utd | Build-up Thread | Return leg Wednesday 06.03

It’s the front three we should be worried about, not their midfield.
They fell away v Liverpool because their front three didn't help out defensively and got overrun.
The weaker their midfield gets the more it becomes an issue.

Big help if he is out. I favor our midfield over theirs if Veratti is out. But I still can't get over Ashley Young going against Neymar. :nervous:

I think at PSG's home, it's going to be a thrilling goal for United and PSG especially if United win at Old Trafford.

It's quite hard to reach the attack without going though the midfield, especially when none of the attackers are particularly good at being a singular focal point. Verratti is absolutely essential to their possession game which has dominated many games against many of the best teams around. The idea that he won't make much of a difference is absurd.

As long as we don't get embarrassed, which I don't think we will, then this might be a win-win.

We beat PSG, that's great for the team's confidence and we progress to the quarters.
We lose, we've gone out to one of the best teams in the competition and we can concentrate on our push for Top 4.

I would fancy Matic/Pogba/Herrera vs the di Maria/Verratti + whoever else would of been their midfield.

I seen Dani Alves as a suggested Verratti replacement for their midfield. I think we have a better midfield than them.

I don't for a minute fancy Young/Shaw against Neymar or Mbappe, nor do I fancy any of our defenders vs Cavani in the air.

Neymar will spend more time on his ass than his feet so Young should be okay.

Wounded? What the feck happened to him, and how long is he out for?

This tie will be Rashford’s coming of age into the real top tier.

Very bad news.

Without him, it's 50/50
The arrogance, Psg have won feck all in Europe. This is around the stage they get dumped out, all the talk and hype as if they have this great experience. They were founded in 1970 and are a bunch of individuals brought together by oil. They can definitely hurt United up front, especially with Mbappe but United can do the same up front. It was evenly matched before, I hope your team have an arrogant view like yourself. Could be in for a rude awakening.

Dear Sir Morpheus 7,

I am honoured that an aristocrat like you took the time to read and reply to my message. I deeply appreciate your time and consideration.

I know I am someone arrogant because I sometimes make predictions but - you know - it is mainly because I support a club created in the second half of the 20th century.

Many thanks and best regards,

The irony is this comes across way more arrogant than the post you’re lambasting.

I think we"ll do them out wide. Either Neymar etc track back or Rashford and Martial will run riot.
Lingard and Pogba to drag their CB out and crowd Verrati.
I see nothing from PSG that scares me if we play well.

We need a Tottenham away-esque performance in Paris and we'll beat them at OT because they're the bottlers of Europe. They won't be able to handle the atmosphere and pace of our attack. 3-1 over two legs to United.

Very relevant to figure out current chances.

I love these big games, I was extremely disappointed last season when we didn't face one single top team in the group stage, and then got Sevilla in the knockout stage and we fecking lost. We've already gotten Juventus this season and now a huge team like PSG, it's good for our young players to get some experience playing against the top dogs in Europe.

I hope we thrash them at Old Trafford, we can definitely win this fixture if our players aren't too nervous because of the pressure.

You sure you're not overestimating us a bit?

I think we have a chance, but I'd rather put money on you lot.

with or without him you said its 50/50!

Well done :D

Just after the draw------------------------------------------------- PSG 60-40 MUFC
Mourinho sacked and great starts of Ole------------------------------------------------- PSG 50-50 MUFC
Mercato: PSG likely to acquire this winter Paredes and the offensive trio is in great shape at the same time (9-0 yesterday) --------- PSG 55-45 MUFC
Verratti injured ------- PSG 50-50 MUFC

Explanations:

- Without Verratti, PSG struggled at Anfield Road and conceded 3 goals: we lost there 2-3 with Rabiot on the pitch.
- Rabiot is now blacklisted for refusing to renew his contract. Lassana Diara could retire this winter.
- Paredes is more a central midfielder: exceptional passing skills and reading of the game but he has not the qualities of a pure destroyer/defensive midfielder.
= So, we don't have a pure defensive midfielder or box-to-box. In the past, we had Matuidi (B2B) and Thiago Motta (#6). A player like Allan would have been great in this regard.

Now, I hope you will acquire a great player this winter and make these games exciting.

Their league is such a tragic waste of time and utterly pointless existence that perhaps they'll get complacent and lose focus, and that'll give us an advantage in some way

Well that’s possible but another scenario would have them ticking along, winning most games in third gear, staying in good shape without overextending themselves and turning up at OT cherry ripe to play for their lives with a team filled with top stars, coached by one of the world’s best knowing that they have the second leg at home.
Taking any emotion and club bias out of it PSG are favoured by the bookies to win the leg at United let alone the whole tie.
United are on a lovely winning run but the Spurs game should show you that they would need top performances and probably a good slice of luck to progress against a top team.

Would any of you take a 0-0 at Old Trafford? It would be a good result because of the away goal rule.

This tie could be finished in the first leg if we don't defend properly. Are we hoping to out-score them 3-2 so we only need a draw in Paris?

I'd rather have a BTTS win than a goalless draw.

I honestly have a feeling that if United do not score in the first 20-25 minutes of the first game and allow PSG to find some comfort, they will lose this tie. United's defense is really bad, and Neymar and Mbappe are going to just wreck shop there. I think PSG can fold mentally if they concede early on and are frustrated off the ball, but I just can't see them not scoring against this defense.

I don't think we stand a chance, personally. Their offence is better than ours and our defence is fecking shocking. Would be an incredible achievement if we were to get through this tie.

One game we could do them but over two legs it will be beyond us. I just hope we make a real good game of it. No-one expects us to win so anything extra is bonus and welcome suprise.
