PSG vs Man Utd | Build-up Thread | Return leg Wednesday 06.03

Theyre improving and things won't be the same in February. Bayern getting underestimated a lot here like it's some pub team.
Maybe . 2 months is a long time in football and you can't account for injuries etc . But if they played tommorow liverpool would be strong favorites

We've been to Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona the last 12 months and remained undefeated. Spurs can definitely go to Dortmund and get a draw at the very least. Plus the home leg will be one of the first games in our new stadium. The white wall versus the yellow wall :)

No doubt Dortmund are on fire this season, but hard to say how strong you are compared to Spurs. The likes of Sancho, Reus, Alcacer, Pulisic do not compare favorably to Kane, Eriksen, Son, Alli. I think only Reus gets in for Alli there. Saying that, Alli is coming back into his best form recently.

Much depends on injuries and who has their best players fit in Feb/March, it will be a very even game for sure.

Since when is football played like that?

I don't like being pessimistic but we have no chance of going through unless Neymar gets injured before the tie.

We have no surprises in this season. We play straight forward and lose against any big team. So this must be a pretty straight forward affair.

Well, for once PSG manages to avoid one of the big teams right off the bat. Should be a good starting point for both United and PSG, but I’m expecting Paris to come out of this and Mbappe and Neymar to put on a show. Knowing Neymar though, he will probably get hurt before. When is his sister’s birthday again?

It is on March 11th. So he ll get injured only in the 2nd leg, probably at the end of match. Not much useful.

Been seeing an avalanche of P$G fans rejoicing that they've finally gotten an easy draw to start the CL knockout round for a change

It isn't. It's relevant however when discussing who is more likely to beat who. If the Spurs four are fit and firing I would absolutely back them to be more devastating than Dortmund's front four. Son loves scoring a goal against Dortmund too.

Dortmund are having a great season, but so are Spurs, in a much tougher league.

Agree re the ref to a degree but when is the last time we saw a ref that didn't turn a blind eye to the theatrics when we play in Europe? You know one of our players will get red carded for breathing on Neymar or Di Maria.

Not a bad point, but who knows, we might get lucky.

So if Jose is still here, we know he will gone after this round. No way they keep him when we are out of the CL.

It’s funny because it’s true. A couple of Liverpool fans at the pub yesterday wasn’t sure of Fabinho because his best performance was ‘only vs United’. They’re not wrong either.

2.7 goals per game sounds more devastating than 1.8 goals per game, no?

In a much weaker league. Dortmund would not be averaging that in the PL lets be real here. Spurs have also had fitness issues with practically all their attackers in the first part of the season. Kane, Son, Eriksen and Alli all had exhausting summers. Confident the attack will be in much better shape by Feb.

Weaker league?

The Premier League is full of dross like Newcastle, Huddersfield, etc. . . FFS

Spurs are only still in the competition because of a surprise result.

Let him talk the league and team down, suits us fine :D

Pressure will be on Pochettino I would say though, to start doing something significant in europe with this team before it's too late. He has yet to show much metal on the European stage.

I'd back BVB all the way, but I am of course as bias as a spurs fan would be in favour of their team. But there's not many I'd swap from our team for theirs, that's for sure.

VVD will affect their defense but still their midfield and offense will be too much pace and intensity to handle. It's a good draw for Liverpool. Bayern are really not good anymore.
Ffs Liverpool lost in Belgrade and Napoli since when are those 2 teams better than Bayern? Not forgetting they may sign someone now on January. Not saying they can't beat them easily at Anfield but football doesn't work like that, particularly when you are talking about a club with Bayern mentality.

There's no doubt to me that the Bundesliga is a weaker league than the Premier League. However, Dortmund are currently the best performing team in the Bundesliga, and Tottenham aren't the best performing in the Premier League, they're not on the level of Liverpool and Manchester City. So it's a fairly even matchup to me, would give the edge slightly to Dortmund.

Napoli has far better defensive system than Bayern. Actually I think Napoli in general are stronger than Bayern currently anyway.

Group stage form means little once you reach the knock outs. Needless to say, Spurs were the better than than Inter and PSV both home and away, it was correct for Spurs to get through the group even if they did need some luck that PSV turned up in Milan and proved hard to beat. Spurs outplayed Juventus home and away last season but lost to naivety, I think this Spurs side is even better this season. Not underestimating Dortmund at all, it's a 50/50 game, but Spurs shouldn't be underestimated either.

Let's not forget Spurs are only third in the league behind City and Liverpool who are arguably two of the strongest form sides in Europe this season. For spurs to only be 5 points behind should signal to you how strong Spurs are.

Stop it. Napoli is in no way better than Bayern. At all.

People (Bundesliga followers) say that because they've seen them play. Bayern play bad football and get dominated by Ajax, Liverpool play good football.

Does this draw mean that we aren't going to sell them Pogba and / or Sanchez in Jan?

I am not saying Liverpool isn't favourite and isn't playing better, but probably Bayern will improve, and if they can have their best players available it won't be the walk in the park as described here. Champions League knockouts aren't Domestic Leagues or Group Stages.

We're still in the competition because we beat Inter at home and then dominated Barca at the Nou Camp. Inter should never have won at the San Siro in the first place and we were robbed of 3 points away to PSV by a wrongly disallowed goal.

We started off shite in the group (partly down to a severe injury crisis) and then improved and clearly deserved to qualify.

You could make the same point about United. It's possible, but is it likely? Bayern's problems didn't come out of thin air, their squad has some weaknesses and Kovac seems out of his depth tactically and also appears to have influental parts of the squad against him.
