Protests following the killing of George Floyd

Just asking..if these BLM supporters really cared about people, why haven't they paid my electric bill?

Where did I say that people shouldn’t protest?? Jesus fecking Christ.

So you don’t see the irony in Black Lives Matters protestors beating up black police officers and potentially killing them in the process? Innocent officers just doing their jobs!

it’s plain to see that these peaceful protests have been hijacked by groups of absolute scum that are only interested in violence. They don’t give a shit about BLM.

But of course you aren’t allowed to say that on here because views are so far left that the actions of rioting scumbags (Not genuine BLM protestors) are justified because it’s associated with the protests. Any counter argument to that and you are a racist.
If that wasn’t the purpose of your post then what were you implying? Other than just deflecting from the main issue at hand? You’re talking about a tiny minority and acting as if they represent the whole protest.

And it’s funny for you to talk about irony, you accused me of putting words in your mouth only to do the same. I haven’t called you a racist, seems like your projecting.

The definition of equality is fairness for all. It stands to reason that by campaigning for equality for one section of society, you are campaigning for equality for all sections of society. The name of the movement is irrelevant when the goal is the same. You weren’t “just asking”, as your subsequent posts indicate.
Yes i was just asking, because all the focus was on one ethnic group. I was curious as to why other races were not included, who have faced racism too.

It was an honest question and you've gone a rant.

If it was an honest question, why follow up with “well what about the Asians?”

Equality means EVERYONE treated in a manner that makes the playing field level and allows access to the same opportunities for all.

He's right though. Statues like that shouldn't be left up until people finally snap and tear them down.

The amount of health and safety violations in those videos. You’d have thought the liberal snowflakes would know better?

I mean, have you watched the news? How can you not be aware of why it’s about one race?

No he didn't. It was a simple question. I've not seen many Asians at the protests. They seem to have been forgotten about.
You do know that people can just turn up to these protests? They haven't selected people to give tickets to.

Oh, wait, you're just using whataboutism as an argument because you don't like what the protests represent. Gotcha.

The only negative I can think of really about the graffiti is that shitheads like Johnson and Patel are focusing on them instead of what the protests are about. These people are cnuts, plain and simple. If it wasn't the graffiti then it would have been something else that they would take umbrage to.

They don't like protests in general. Protests mean people are thinking for themselves, and that scares the shit out of this lot.

Those two are acting outraged because:
a) It takes the pressure off them, via distraction, about speaking on George Floyd/BLM.
b) They fear revolution-creep.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in America (or only some states?) you can't vote if you have a criminal record?

Is it likely that come November these protests and a whole lot of fake charges etc are going to stop a big chunk of people voting that likely would have voted against Trump?

This is like asking "why don't Breast Cancer charities also campaign for Child Abuse?"

BLM has it's own specific cause, there's nothing stopping Asian people from creating their own version, and BLM isn't exclusionary in who should be in support of it either.
Finally somebody worded it accurately. Same goes for white folks and their #alllivesmatter crap. There's nothing stopping them from protesting police brutality against white people.

They don't care though.

Stop taking china to every debate. The fact that you casually mentioned china in everything is racist man.

Chinese is a race too you know

I haven’t previously mentioned China in any conversation?

Sorry mate. I wasn’t implying you were calling me racist. I’ve been jumped on by multiple posters and it wasn’t aimed at you.

It’s “only” felony charges that carry that disenfranchisement issue, but yes it’s certainly a problem.

And @Garethw while you're at it, answer my question as to whether you have experienced racism yourself.

Two of my best friends are black. One since childhood and one through football since my late teens. Yes I have experienced racism. Not personally but against my friends.

I will not tolerate it In any shape or form. I’ve always had my friends backs and it’s got me into a lot of trouble in the past.

Racism is a disease that needs eradicating. But rioting is not the cure.

It's good for others to see a different perspective whether you agree or not

I've read what white privilege looks like on FB, Instagram, etc. Now I've heard what it sounds like with my own ears.

And yet you say, with what seems to be misplaced confidence, the UK isn't a racist country. Go figure.

Oooooooh.

I meant outside of that quote I hadn’t mentioned China.

I wasn’t meaning to offend by the way, but I saw videos where black people were refused service in China recently. Flat out refused.

If that was happening in the UK I’d agree that we were a racist country but it wouldn’t be tolerated here.

No worries mate, it’s an emotive topic and I think we’re all on edge at the moment!

 you have to go there

And yet you say, with what seems to be misplaced confidence, the UK isn't a racist country. Go figure.

On the whole no, I don’t think it’s a racist country. Maybe 30-40 years ago Yes, but times have changed. The majority are not racist.

There is still a lot of work to do and hopefully this is the start of that.

I live by the principle that a persons actions are what defines them, not the colour of their skin or nationality.

Let’s just all stop being cnuts to each other. If we can do that the world will be a better place.

Are Asians included in this black lives matter? They probably get racism more than anyone in the UK.
Just out of curiosity, what is stopping you from creating an AsianLivesMatter movement?

Gonna go out on a limb and say like a lot of people such as yourself, you haven’t cared about racism against Asians a day in your life and are only now bringing it up to derail a black movement

Surely BLM is all-encompassing and looking to change things for everybody who suffers racism. I don't think Asians would be turned away from a protest march.

Yes rioting isn’t the cure, and only a minority we’re rioting. The majority are clearly protesting which is different.

Sounds fantastic in theory but in the real world you might be the best person ever with the nicest of actions, and yet, if the system is rigged against you because of the colour of your skin or your nationality, you will most certainly suffer. And that most certainly is still the case in the UK, sure it's not as bad as 30-40 years ago but that's really not a suitable justification.

Erik Salgado from Oakland, shot 40x by CHP next to his pregnant wife. Their baby was killed.

Sean Monterossa from SF, shot 5x by VPD while on his knees.
The kind of atrocities you'd expect to read of in books about the Nazis.

Seeing these politicians across the political spectrum crying about a slave trader statue is beyond pathetic. Here’s to more coming down and Priti drowning in her salty tears.

It’s what it symbolises. Basically burning the whole country down.

It’s the white supremacy flags and KKK flags that should be being burnt.

The UK is not a racist country. It’s not.

It has its element of racist scum like everywhere else, but it is not Universally racist.

If you want examples of racism you only need look to countries like China.

We have work to do here, but The UK is not fecking comparable to actual racist countries.

 The UK is very much a racist country. The problem with people like you is that you can only see things in extremes so because there are no camps like China (or whatever they have going on over there) or no killing of black men in cold blood like America (even though it does and has happened here just not at the same rate and the same kind of brutality) it means that the UK is not racist? Ask any person of colour, including myself, what we have to deal with. Oh but because people aren’t outright calling us the n word all the time and there is no widespread neo nazi/redneck/white supremacist culture over here it means that we should be lucky and the UK is racism free

By your logic, can we say that the UK isn’t a cold country because Scandinavian countries are ‘actually cold’?

The EDL have popped up in Durham to defend the statue of the Marquess of Londonderry in the Marketplace. I will never understand what is making working class white fellas from County Durham give up their time to stand guard over a statue of a man whose main claims to fame are opposing raising the minimum age at which children could be employed in mines on the grounds that it would be unprofitable to make the tunnels tall enough to accommodate taller children and giving £30 to the Irish Famine relief at the same time as spending £150,000 renovating his Irish country house.
