Premier League matchweek 2 (august 19th-21th)

Said it a few times over the years the Spurs GK lloris is atleast a mistake a game. He's another David James he makes top class saves and then boom. He done the same versus City last season and many more big games.

If there's one team capable of these huff&puff away performances it's Chelsea.

oh he meant this

I swear you never see passion like this in any other league in the world. Every goal is more climatic than the previous one. Every save leaves me gasping for air. Every game a compelling drama that has me sitting on edge unable to move for fear of missing a vital kick.

I love the premier league.

Teams copped on to their set up by the end of last season. Closely mark Hazard and you nullify most of their threats. Morata is also not the type to hustle and bustle and feeding off scraps up front like Costa, if they play without a threat in midfield to augment Hazard they will see a lot more draws this season.

I tend to that they lack creativity through the middle but I do think their tactics and formation that they play tends to overcome that limitation. And I don't think Hazard is easy to nullify anyway. Not many teams will be able to pull of what we did.

"I must be happy with the players I have". Not particularly convincing from Conte.

I have no doubt they would still win the vast majority of their games against the bottom 10, but all it takes is a couple of teams who succeed in doing that in one-off games to put them in a worse position compare to last season. It's relative to the competition.

De Gea made a similar mistake last year at home to Stoke right?
He spilled a pretty tame shot whiched combined with some pretty bad defending lead to a goal, not exactly the same. Lloris does make a few too many errors for my liking. We are truly lucky to have DDG, I can only remember 2 or 3 errors in the past 3-4 seasons

Ok thanks for the clarification.

If this post is sarcastic, it is one of the best posts of the year.

So, Poch has evolved his philosophy so it is now aligned with LVG's! :p

Tbf, had the players been horny enough, they would've penetrated at some point. LvG had a point.

Dude, each and every man in that ground knows that Spurs' players today were in no mood to penetrate anything or anyone.
Perhaps Poch needs to tell the players to have some Viagra, before playing at Wembley.

said before the season started. Chelsea will be our main rivals.
Conte is a better manager than Pep.
Not convinced United will challenge for the title yet personally, you couldn't have started much better though. You can only beat what's in front of you.

Their penetration at Wembley is seemingly ineffective. Something about the dimensions, too wide or something.

That comment was gold and funny enough in the 2 games after he said that we did look horny. After that he turned out players into only passing it sideways again though.

Spurs weren't actually that bad apart from their finishing. They created plenty and were unlucky not to score a couple more times.

That said once they actually got back into the game they bottled it in typical Spurs fashion. The winning goal was from Spurs giving the ball away under Chelsea pressing and then the GK's horrendous mistake.

How did bakayoko do? And Morata?

He was shit. Mind you, first game back frkm injury, PL debut, and against a good side. So it might be better to give him a few games before judging him.

Morata was good but missed a sitter. Batshuayi coming on and being terrible also helped Morata look good!

Thanks for the reply, i am reading conflicting reports on Bakayoko. One of the newspapers seem to think he was better than matuc has ever been for chelsea?

He looked lost for most of the game and was clumsy on the ball. From the Andy Caroll/Danny Welbeck school of ball control. I'm surprised someone can watch that performance and praise it.

Alonso, Luiz (except for a short period in the first half), Willian, and Morata were their best players today.

Just watching yesterdays motd.. how does Mark Noble get away with the fouls he makes? Studs on knee, not even a warning.. last week he made some fouls too.

I thought Willian was dreadful apart from a short spell right before he came off-his decision making was absolutely appalling. I lost count of the number of times Morata or Moses were in acres of space, only for Willian to fail to even attempt a pass. Kante was miles better than him-he again won more tackles than any other player. The moment where he failed to make any of 3 simple passes, instead choosing to dribble it into touch in the Chelsea half was comical.

Bakayoko didn't play particularly well but what was apparent is that he's a better fit for the team than Matic was, since he is more comfortable pressing higher up the pitch. Matic fits far better at United since he can sit deep and cover for Pogba et al, but in a 3 CB system the CMs have to push up consistently and that doesn't cater to his strengths. Bakayoko didn't look particularly refined today, but he dribbled with purpose and didn't shy away from the physical battle. Let's keep in mind that this is probably the most difficult fixture in England for a midfielder in terms of speed and lack of time on the ball; considering he was rushed back from knee surgery it was an impressive debut all things considered. I was astonished he lasted the full 90 minutes personally.

Spurs at home last season

This season

...nice to see that both Chelsea and Spurs look weaker than the winning and runner up sides they had last year. With their downgrades and United's improvements, can really genuinely see José leading us to the league title. Unlucky result for Spurs fwiw...outplayed Chelsea for the most part.

I'm not sure what was worse re Bakayoko, his performance or Jamie Redknapp's analysis of his performance "what he will do [that Matic doesnt] is run with the ball and drive through midfield" did Redknapp not see Matic last week?

Difficult to see what Rudiger give us that Zouma could not. Was pleased with Christensen and Bakayoko given the circumstances.

Yeah Rudiger doesn't look great, Zouma on the other hand looked good against Arsenal for Stoke and Christensen looked very good against Spurs, there's also Ake who you sold as well. Strange strange transfer window for Chelsea

I mean, Bakayoko averaged more than twice as many dribbles per game than Matic did last year.
