Premier League matchweek 2 (august 19th-21th)

So it is some sort of Pepist fantasy a 5-1-2-2 or 3-3-2-2 or I am missing something? Excuse me, Pep for not being a football Einstein

think Everton might keep them out for a while but when you have Rooney and Calvert-Lewin as the main players on the break it's hard to see Everton getting out of their own half

Otamendi - Stones - Kompany
Walker - Silve - Fernandinho - De Bruyne - Sane
Jesus - Aguero

Most probably.

Come on wazza get a couple tonight and your crappiness of the last few seasons is forgiven

I refuse to believe that a City midfield of Fernandinho Silva De Bruyne won't get overrun by any team with actually good midfielders.

It depends how congested the central midfield is. Walker and City's left wing back would push a little more narrow to support Silva and KDB, who can still put themselves around defensively but be in good areas of the pitch to attack when possession is regained. You have to break that line with a CF pulling central defenders out of their block and then have support exposing the space.

That city line up is frightening.

Nah, imo their attacking force gets overrated. Jesus has shown to be a dangerous young player, but Silva has been sub-par for a little while (though still good) and the same with KDB. Aguero is on/off these days, and Sane is still quite raw. City to me seem to lack consistency, both as a whole and individually. There will be games when they will look brilliant, but more so ones where they flatter to deceive and end up getting a narrow win. Pep seems to have turned them into less of a force than they were under Pellegrini, but that could also be largely down to their better players getting older and becoming less instrumental in games. I will say though, having Gundogan back fit will be a huge boost, if he stays fit.

I didn't think he was injured. It's odd they have Danilo in place of him if he's actually fit.

He's injured. Glad to see Sane start. He's not a LWB, but we need his attacking threat if we're going to break down Everton. I'm surprised Pep has kept Aguero and Jesus in the line-up. To be honest, I don't think they work well together, and I'd be surprised if by the end of the season they are both still starting regularly.

The norwegian "host"-reporter asked the question "is this the greatest premierleague team ever?"
Wtf have they been smoking? lol

Not expecting much tonight to be honest. We haven't got any pace to counter attack and relieve the pressure on our defence.
It's a concern.

Expect them to score 100+ this season.

I noticed that the pundits are being very down to earth about this United side but last season they were saying City would walk it after a couple of games. It's not as bad this season but they do love to hype City.

City won't be the machine people are claiming this season IMO. Their only good center back will get injured and then they are left with Stones and Otamendi which is a mid table pairing. I'm expecting Pep to try to be too smart and them to struggle to integrate all the attacking flair in one consistent team. Sure, they will thump the odd team but I'm expecting it to be more of the same for them this season. Some big wins, some strange losses and ultimately inconsistency will cost them in PL and CL.

People just seem to crap the bed at all things City. It is really weird.
I think it's because nobody really cares about them. So if people don't think their own team can win the league an easy retort is just to go with City as your not admitting a rival team is good (i.e Liverpool fans will just say City because they couldn't bare to admit United and conveniently ignore City's spending).

It's hard to see how Everton can get anything out of the game. It's just a question of how many City will score really.

You'd imagine they'll be ripped apart tonight, and then obviously put in one hell of an effort v us.
That's the standard.

We play Everton in a few weeks (well, pretty much a month), so I guess it's just a good opportunity to watch them.

What has happened to Everton's team? They look unrecognisable from last season. What's going on? Do they have injury issues or is it Koeman setting up to defend?

Looking at my phone posting in this thread and at the same time hearing the commentator on the telly saying that "here we see José Mourinho" was, well, surprising.
