Premier League Matchday 4 (Sep 9-11)

"Being down to 10 men doesn't prevent you winning a game. Man City showed that at Bournemouth."

Wasn't Sterling literally sent off in the last minute or so.

Sometimes I am glad I don't have to tolerate the British TV. At least here on NBC, commentators are a bit more reasonable. They saw a straight red in that like anyone sensible would.

I detest City. I detest Liverpool. But listening to Neville and Tyler defend that was infuriating.

Game over now.

2-0

I think it's a red because referees have to look at each and every situation subjectively instead of simply sticking to rules going for 50-50 is not red.

Can we pause and appreciate how terrible John Stones is?

This is going to be messy

Game is well and truly done for.

As soon as a player tackles shin high the commentators scream red card but a head high tackle isn't? Shut up Garry.

Ps wooooo.

He's not the keeper outside the box, he's just like any other player challenging for the ball. It would be a orange yellow with any other.

But surely a high boot to the face of any player could be thought of as dangerous play right?

You can't use that excuse for kicking someone in the face. Did Mane intend to injury the player? No. Was it dangerous. Yes

It wasn't dangerous. It was a violent offence. Dangerous is when a player does what Mane did and misses the opponent. In that case, you can make a case of it being, maybe a yellow, although it's perfectly fine to give a red without any contact being made. When contact is made though, it becomes a violent offence and is a clear red regardless of the intent argument. Intent can't even be proved unless a guy just hits the other player in the face on purpose. About 90% of all red cards being given are for bad late tackles.

KDB's great today. Could have a hat-trick of assists.

Not a red card? Take a look at yourself

Moaning, ranting and complaining to the fourth official about the red card in his loveable way. I don't understand how this guy still gets away with his bullshit behaviour.
Beloved by the press. He can do no wrong for them.

If mane wins the ball and score then we would be saying well played. But going for these kind of ball comes with the risks of hurting your opponents. Definitely a red card.

He did but if he gets there a fraction of a second earlier, Ederson clatters him and sees red for City instead.

When both players committed to winning that ball, neither knew who would get there first.

Red cards like this will just result in players not committing to 50/50 balls in future.

It's the correct call but it's a shame.

If he didn't kick him in the face then he wouldn't have been sent off, quite simple really. it was dangerous and has caused an injury. 100% the correct call.

I'm all for 50:50's but if one player goes in as dangerously as mane did here then they deserve a red card.

Even Martin Tyler made the point that you could tell the ref felt regret at having to send off Mane and I would agree with that. No one is denying that Mane didn't intend on causing harm. Fact is though, he did and that needs to be punished accordingly (he had plenty of time to pull out of the confrontation).

Feck sake, 90% of straight red cards are bound to be given to a player who didn't mean to cause harm.

Was hoping for a draw but never want to see Liverpool win so this is ok.

Liverpool's defense

yeah time to watch eurobasket. Liverpool need to stop with the fecking experiments at the back Robertson - Lovren - Matip - TAA/Gomez

Even Milner at RB should be an option.

I took off de Bruyne from my fantasy football, ugh.

In case anybody still has any doubts if he was hit to the face.
